  1. This is even better than my: Will I live to see it? And now: Do I care? Me too. It was until a short time ago when I realised I might not live to see it so bought a new one anyway. **If** I'm still here then perhaps by then I will have forgotten I had a new one N years ago... I hope you solve the XBOX thing. It'd be interesting to hear what you find out. I ended up buying several of my games again because I decided it was easier for me to get Steam to maintain them.
  2. If anyone else is replaying this and is fed up with the trek up the East Coast then there's a wonderful east coast pack guar which fits in really well. https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/50126/ I've done that trek many times and after a couple of trips I really think catching some transport wouldn't be a bad idea. I also found this Balmora house which fits in so well I can't resist it... https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/53678

    Bethesda

Me too. Bought it... didn't get far. Guessed the ending and abandoned it (along with all hope). I did do New Vegas but I didn't enjoy that much either... I agree with you; it is sad. It's always sad when enthusiasts start something off and then the suits move in. All they see is the coin. The problem is that some of the games were quite hard to play so if you're maximizing coin you need to pull in as many players as possible which means making compromises and quite often what gets dropped is what made it appealing for a section of the buyers. I don't think I'll be crying over that any time soon. They'll weather it. They always have.
  4. I've never had any game mechanics issues with Skyrim. I did have the sound issue briefly when AE was released until GloriousEggroll fixed it. It used to freeze sometimes (especially at first). In fact, at one stage I switched back to Skyrim rather than SkyrimSE but this last year it has been very stable. Certainly wine and proton are heaps better than they were. I'm glad that your feeling more positive about it all. Computers can be extremely frustrating when they misbehave.
  5. Hmmm, I think it depends on what you want to do. I'm pretty sure there are people using Linux (and especially Ubuntu) who don't even think about the OS. I've said before if it all dissolves into a soggy heap, I don't care because there are no longer precious things to worry about. I've backed up anything I **really** want and even then I'm good at the difference between want and need. I do tinker... But once your games are stable I don't see that you'll need to fiddle with them unless you want to... re GE - GloriousEggroll is extremely good at responding to the latest calamities and fixing other stuff along the way...
  6. I haven't played Stardew Valley either but it sounds like it could be some dependency issue so if the suggestion in the above post doesn't work then just check that each mod doesn't have a requirement. It'll be on the description page - it'll say 'requirements' and list the mods with a link to them. Install those and enable them and it ought to work **if** that's the issue. I too hope a Stardew Valley person comes along soon...
  7. It's still there in my game. I checked a couple of saves to make sure... Now, don't be upset by this please but you are sure you're looking in the right place aren't you? You do say you haven't played in a while and sometimes memory can play horrid tricks...
  8. Sigh... got interested in someone's 'bug' only to find a series of crashes today in SE today... My solution is to stay in Morrowind till they fix it. It's a shame - I wanted to do the Saturalia Christmas thing...
  9. InDarkestNight Did the NPC voices etc sound? There were some sound issues with SkyrimSE because of the way that Bethesda handled sound in SE. I've forgotten the details now but on Linux we had some sound (music etc) but not voices. It was weird. But then someone (Glorious Eggroll, I think - the GE Proton) fixed it until Steam caught up with it. But that was years ago... Audio (on Linux) is a can of worms in any case... Ubuntu has done a lot to make it less hostile but if you ask me it still needs to be stood in the corner till it learns better manners... Re Ubuntu - it's one of the more friendly Linux flavours and perhaps you'll grow to like it but don't let it make you sad. It isn't worth it. If you get excited about Linux then there are different desktops (you'll be using Gnome at the moment I expect) so you can change look an feel at a User Interface level. There are other flavours of Linux. I've run a few. But don't let it get to you. Life is way too short to be beaten up by your OS...
  10. Maybe there's an issue after the update in which case they'll fix it. I just went there with my oldest most hacked about game save ever and it was fine. I reloaded a newish game save and the whole thing crashed... that will teach me for saying everything is fine after the update. I can only reiterate what I've said elsewhere that for me there is currently insufficient testing (bug testing, usability testing, just testing really) and too many software houses seem to think that if it works on their machine at home then all is well... And I can't tell you how many times I've listened to that excuse... I'm sorry. You deserve better than being forced into a position where it makes you that sad. Someone will fix it - they always do...
  11. I've been using the alternate starts and playing until I die... Sometimes the games are extremely short... but the alternate starts can be played randomly as well so you don't quite know where you will find yourself. I really enjoy them. One of the modders here has recently added some new ones and I find them seriously exciting... https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/57554?tab=files There are others though which I've been using for some time. Once I find where I am, I take a few moments to give myself a backstory... I don't save until the end of the session and then decide if I'll continue with that game next time or start anew. And no, role playing it isn't an issue for me but I've been confined to base since the Covid outbreaks so perhaps it's a coping strategy...
  12. No. But you make it sound quite exciting as if maybe one of the other daedric lords decided that Boethiah really had to go... I do like your solution though and your ability to see the glass half full rather than half empty!
  13. All's fine. There were some glitches to start with when the game seemed to disable some of my mods for no reason but I've beaten it into submission without any tears on my side. There's isn't really a category for me in the ?aire above...
  14. OpenMW installed. Sadly, I can't use my current saves on it as they're in another format. Looks like converting them might just give me glitches further down the line. However, my old PC has saves from OpenMW from 2021 and I've been able to match them fairly well where I am in the main quest so all is well. I'm impressed with OpenMW - I'd forgotten just how good it is and obviously it's come a little way since 2021. I haven't added any mods yet though. I've linked it to my Steam install this time round - last time I made a fresh install using the CD's from my original copy of the game... Thanks again for the suggestion.
  15. Good! There's also... The Sprit of Saturalia - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/81167 - It's a lovely snow globe quest and really sweet rewards. I love snow globes... They're just magical...
  16. InDarkestNight - You're very unlikely to get an issue with a card unless the card is extremely old or extremely new. In any case, unless you're using a really unusual card someone in the Linux community would have made a fix. It's what they do. They're brilliant. But Ubuntu isn't Windows. Linux tends to assume you know what you're doing and it doesn't do as much feedback or reassurance. It just does stuff. It will tell you if commands are wrongly constructed (and suggest alternatives), it will offer to fetch things to get stuff to work but it doesn't say: Don't do that - it's stupid! And it isn't Windows or the Mac OS... You'll need to work carefully and slowly and patiently. If you're not in that place at the moment then don't go there. It will lead to wailing and gnashing of teeth and it simply isn't worth it when you already have Windows. And I say that as someone who thinks Linux is the best thing that ever happened...
  17. @blackrat99 - I have used OpenMW - I thought it came packaged with Synaptic but I can't see it so maybe I just downloaded. I really must put it on this machine and give it another go. Morrowind is incredibly stable on Linux. It's brilliant. Tamriel Rebuilt is beautiful. Some of the settlements are breath-taking. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll now do something about it...

    Ban for Fun

If I'm allowed to say, I think that is a really, really healthy attitude. Optimism is always the best way to live life. You can say what you like in this thread for a whole weekend and I shan't ban you! I ban everyone else because they're everyone else... Psst - Pagafyr have you noticed that there's actually no one else here? Maybe I shouldn't have banned them all... just a thought...
  19. Yes, you're quite right, it's possible to dual boot with Linux and Windows. Some people manage very well like this. Some people (myself included) find it exasperating. It's a long time since I tried that though (many years ago) so maybe it has improved... But as I say, I really don't care if games work or not. If they work - I play them; if they don't then I work at making them stable. Last week my favourite 'game' was getting Mod Organizer 2 to work nicely and with several instances... This week I'm playing Morrowind and modding it as I go. If it all falls apart I don't care. It'll be interesting fixing it... and I'm sure I must be learning something even if it's "Don't do that again!"
  20. @HeyYou - Thanks for that. I found it interesting. I'll ponder the: I should switch it off... Many years ago I had a machine at work which would sometimes not boot. The technicians did all sorts to it but eventually they use to take the lid off, look inside and for some reason it would boot. They replaced all kinds of things to no avail. Eventually they told me not to switch it off. They hoped that would eventually bring about its demise...

    Ban for Fun

I ban zixi because I don't know how to wish Pagafyr good luck with the gainful employment...
  22. InDarkestNight - If what you want to do is game then Linux isn't the platform for you. Most of the 'fun' from Linux comes from getting the things to run. I have a perfectly stable system here as a gaming platform - this was a brand new machine a couple of weeks ago and it took me probably a week to download everything ( we have ASDL and it is beyond slow... I download when I'm asleep and even then it took several nights). But... 1. I vaguely know what I'm doing on Linux because I vaguely understand OS... and I like messing around with things I vaguely understand. I don't care if I break them. 2. I have access to someone who understand Linux very well (though I don't go to him unless I'm desperate and that isn't very often). 3. I'm retired 4. I couldn't care less if the whole thing falls over and my bottom line is I'll re-install the OS or use a different Linux flavour or something. 5. I dislike the alternatives very much indeed. If push came to shove and I couldn't run my favourite games on Linux then I'd take up the oboe... In your position I'd stick to Windows because you know it well. Linux is for a spare machine and when you have time not to care if it doesn't work. You've tried it. You don't like it. It's fine! Don't let it make you sad. It's not worth it!
  23. It's extremely 'friendly' in the sense that it will 'cheerfully' go off do things for you which are not always 'good' things to do...
  24. Yes! There are loads for Skyrim which are wonderful. I could go on and on and on. But this is the first one I ever installed... Saturalia - Christmas in Skyrim https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/28093 - for the Skyrim version https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/42714 for SkyrimSE version It's brilliant! It's beautiful and the singing is lovely. It was clearly built with the kind of love and generosity that should be around at Christmas (and all the year really)... This is a lovely idea! Has made me smile. Thank you, Happybara! Have a Saturalia cookie! It's calorie free and fortifies your strength and magic resistance...
