  1. In response to post #24871339. #24886114, #24887249, #24887719, #24888359 are all replies on the same post. Mods would exist and be shared even if there weren't mod users (users who don't do any modding themselves). That's how the community started. On the other hand, mods would not exist without mod authors. A significant chunk of mods would not exist if it weren't for a single team of mod authors: the SkyUI team. All MCM-driven mods have them to thank. So if you are a mod user, you can tell yourself that you are just as important to this community as a mod author. But you're not.
  2. If anyone has a save file they are willing to share where they have advanced far enough into the civil war questline that one or more jarls has been switched out, I would appreciate it. If you would, please upload to dropbox or something similar and post the link here. I need as many different saves as possible to beta test something. Again, I only need saves where one or more jarls has been removed from power, and a new one has taken their place. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I think this is a fair point and something that Robin is probably already thinking about. The fact is that for many years several people have actually been able to monetize modding. Youtubers, the Nexus... The only people who have been forbidden from making money off of modding were the mod authors themselves. A model like youtube with ad revenue sharing would be interesting. Any attempt at a model would be interesting. The Nexus does provide a wonderful service, and Robin runs it about as well as could be expected. It's an extremely challenging job. But the Nexus is most decidedly NOT a non-profit entity. I think that is why Robin has been as balanced as he has been in all of this. I think he truly believes in the spirit of open source. On the other hand, he is a big TES fan who has managed to turn his love of mods into a livelihood. Do modders not have the same right to try to do that? It is a complicated situation.
  4. I'm actually about two thirds of the way through a mod called "Become a Merchant" that does just that (well, in a way--you start out as a lowly store cloak in a choice of crafts). But I've been working on it on and off for years, literally, and I don't know if I will ever finish it TBH. You can probably even find old posts about it here on the forums. The good thing is that all this controversy around Skyrim has reminded me how much I enjoyed Skyrim and drawn me back into it. So, who knows. Maybe after I get a little ways into this new playthrough I just started, I will fire up the CK again. That's usually how it goes. I can never actually get very far into the game itself. Edit: Just to clarify, if I ever do release BaM, it will be free, just like BaB.
  5. Or you could just download it from the non-Steam direct download link that's listed right there on the description page. And, then, you know, bookmark that site. Using Steam is completely optional, always has been since the day the mod was uploaded there.
  6. Creative Commons is a good framework. The specific type of CC licence you are probably looking for is "NC," non-commercial. There are other restrictions you can add. http://creativecommons.org/
  7. Comparing this to a Nigerian prince scam and putting the onus on users is pretty sad. Yeah, most people are clever enough to check the url and not fall for this. But the bottom line is that there was clearly a Nexus data breach, email addresses for users were stolen to be used for the spam, and that should have been explicitly stated and apologized for in the blog post instead of once again saying users should just be smart enough not to fall for this. This is what I have come to expect from Robin. The Nexus does a very poor job of protecting users data and keeping malware off the site. This is a long and sad tradition.
  8. There is no mob mentality at work here. If anything, the mob is on the other side if this issue. I just happen to think they are wrong. And to someone who referenced age earlier, no, I am not a twenty something. I'm not a do-gooder. I'm in the US, and I'm not even a Democrat. But I'm also not an idiot. The armor is offensive and falls on the side of hate speech. Facts: (1) It is a swastika. Perhaps not definitive on its own. I still wouldn't want to download it, but as has been pointed out, it can also be a symbol of peace. However, Fact (2): It is on armor called Daughter of War (not peace). Fact (3): It is on the the exact same spot the Nazis wore it. I will applaud as much as everyone else if the author takes it down and posts only a version without the swastika and will finally be convinced that there was no ill-intent here.
  9. If the author truly did not intend to offend and truly wanted to rectify the situation, he would edit out the swastika.
  10. In which century do you dwell? The 20th? Was that the golden era for you? I think the hateful intent is now clear from the author's own comments. I'm done giving him the benefit of the doubt.
  11. The placement only makes it even more obvious the right thing to do in this case.
  12. Does this armor place that particular symbol on the player's forehead? No. It is a different symbol, and it is exactly where the Nazis wore it.
  13. Do people routinely use the star and crescent as a symbol of hated toward your people? Do they tattoo is on themselves to show dedication to their cause of eliminating your people in the present day and age? If so, then yes, I think it should not be allowed. If no, it is not the same thing. I think some people are naive about what this symbol means, today. Not in the 1940s. Today. Forget talking to a rabbi. Even a Catholic priest would explain to you how this symbol is in no way acceptable.
  14. I promised myself I wouldn't reply... But I can't resist. My next mod is going to be a new land mod. I've decided to call the new land "Nigg." The inhabitants of this new land will be called... I'm sure you can guess. Any similarity to a certain racial slur is entirely unintentional and completely innocent. You see, it simply stems from the original meaning of the latin word negro and is meant to convey the darkness of the land. Of course I would never make such a mod. It is completely unacceptable, and the Nexus should never allow it. It boggles my mind that intelligent people can fail to see that the swastika is the exact same issue. I couldn't care less what it meant hundreds of years ago. I know what it means today.
  15. The decision has been taken, but in this situation I fear you've been a bit naive. And as this is now toeing the line, that will be my last word on this.
  16. Has the Nexus staff considered that swastikas are outright banned in Germany? No discussion. No context. Even Wolfenstein was banned. I do think this is a more serious than the staff realizes. Hate speech is not a matter of freedom of expression and is not something any legitimate web site should condone.
  17. If the point is to allow users to toggle it,you would need the MCM. But... Bottom line, iris so much easier just to tell users to uncheck the mod in their load order.
  18. Openhearts makes some really good suggestions. It's not that any of those mods are bad. They're fantastic. But most of those can take a pretty heavy toll, so I would start there if you're having stability issues. Get Snowy is a lighter weight alternative to Wet & Cold.
  19. A couple of things to check: make sure 60 is a valid stage. Setstage will silently fail if it is not a stage or if it is a previous stage and you have not specifically checked the checkbox on the Quest Data tab to allow stages to be repeated. If this doesn't apply, add a debug.notification("hello world") to your little script to make sure it is being called.
  20. You could try setting up the first package as a moveto package to get the NPC to near the player. Open that package in the CK, and you should see a tab to add a small script at the beginning or end of the package. Use the Ending option to set the stage of your quest once the package has ended, ie, when the NPC has reached the player.
  21. I think it's very admirable that the Nexus wants to keep a hand-off approach as much as possible, and I have every confidence that the staff is trying to be as honest and fair as possible. And I certainly don't think any of you are Nazis. But I think you perhaps want to think too much of the human race. This symbolism is not just a thing of the past. I do think it is at least possible that in this situation the mod author did not actually intend offense. But I just don't think that's an absolute defense, partly because of the severity of the symbolism and also because most Neo-Nazis have learned to not be exactly forthcoming about their "cause." I'm not suggesting any moderation action against the mod author. But I think it would be in everyone's best interest, including the author's, if the mod were to be voluntarily taken down until the edited version is released.
  22. For me, it is on the front page. I don't see True Daughters of Skyrim. Perhaps it is because of filters? You probably have everything unfiltered so that you can keep tabs on things.
  23. @MostlyMuggie: It's on the front page. Daughter of War. Just my two cents: Even if it was completely unintentional (and as bizarre as it seems, I think in this case it might have been), I find it very offensive. It is on a piece of armor that the player is meant to wear, and in the exact same spot as the Nazis wore them. The Nexus wouldn't tolerate posters using racial slurs, even if it was unintentional and intended it to mean something else (some literal meaning). It is truly amazing work, but I don't think that should factor in at all. I do think his stated intention counts for a lot. But my opinion is that it is offensive and does not reflect well on the Nexus. A Wolfenstein tribute this is not.
  24. Hmm. Are you sure you're installing the full mod and not perhaps an update or a patch? Perhaps you could take a screenshot of your mod list in NMM and upload it to somewhere that you could link to.
