  1. Thank you for your input. I understand the issue of a circular argument in a load order, but this is not what is happening in that it does not consistently call out the same mods each time. Frankly, I cannot find any pattern to the error. My game, however, is crash free so I guess I should not look a gift horse in the mouth, I was just curious why my categories were being overwritten somehow. I appreciate all responses to me query and hopefully I will figure it out.
  2. then you added mods to a live game? also a no-no because as you see - sometimes bad things happen when you do that. if you want to add mods to a live game then be prepared for the game to break. loot groupings play no part in resolving those issues. that's a pure conflation of events. but if you think it works for you - then happy days. I usually only add new mods in the beginning of a game, if no problems, I start a new game. There are times however that I will add a tool or a gun mod or quest and continue to play. I have learned from a plethora of mistakes made in the past modding Skyrim SSE and I think I have learned my lesson. I do not believe, however, that adding a mod will ALWAYS corrupt a game/save. It depends on the mod. Absolutes are simply not realistic, but due to paranoia, I will install mods sometimes mid playthrough and if I see an issue, or simply do not care for the mod, I revert to a prior save. In any event, this all does not explain to me why these custom groups are messing things up. Ire-did the groups and placed them right after all the other premade groups and do not assign any of the premade groups. Basically, it is a straight line. The circular conflicts the program reports do not make sense in that when looking at the load order there are no "rules" telling the mod manager to place x mod above or below another mod, just the groups. I can understand the program telling me that the load order conflicts somehow, but there are no circular rules set up. I really like using Vortex and have resisted using MO2 as I have seen such an improvement to the program over the years and I tend to be very loyal to a program that has worked well for me in the past. I'll keep trying. I will copy the file that sets forth all the rules that do exist as well as group assignments and then remove all the rules and group assignments and then do a reassignment and see if that works.
  3. Un Unfortunately, it appears to be random which is why it makes no sense to me. I reset the groups and reassign as before, the program sorts the mods and everything is great. Next time I open up Vortex, it gives me a message that it cannot sort due to circular events, which there are none. When I add a mod, I have to cancel all group assignments, sort if necessary and then reassign, sort and no error messages. Very frustrating. I may have to revert back, just have to figure which category all my mods would belong to.
  4. Not to belabor the point as we are both entitled to our opinion, however, why would Vortex have adding groups as an option if it is not of any use? That makes no sense. As for your comment about removing mods, I have been doing this for awhile now and I have never removed a mod mid-playthrough, even if a mod author states that it is OK to do so. It was a conflict that I could not figure out because I have over 80 settlement mods. When I redid the groups and Loot sorted the mods (that time it did it with no issues) the menu items, namely the surgery and barber chair and some other items, showed up in the menus. Now that I think about it, this happened after Vortex gave me the message that there was some sort of a problem and to either close the program, ignore or create some sort of save. Since then, I have been having this issue in that as I stated, when I first created these custom groups Loot did sort them as per the group order with no issues.
  5. Pickysaurus I did check the file as you suggested, thank you. The file has all the groups I created, thus I surmise that Vortex is not properly saving the file. If I make a copy of the file and this happens again, can I close out of Vortex and replace the then current file to fix the issue as opposed to redoing the list over again? I looked at the file more thoroughly. Although it has all the groups, it is not saving the group associations for about half of the groups. Just happened again (right now). This is frustrating. What could be causing this??

  7. The benefit is that my large load order is running smoothly. Items that were missing from workshop menus reappeared even in an existing save game. Also, if I am having issues with a mod, it makes it easier to weed out problems in some cases.
  8. I have created a whole new set of groups in order to properly manage my plug-ins. I have avoided using the standard groups by not assigning anything to those categories. When set-up, the whole thing works (yeah!) and my game runs without a hitch. When I reload Vortex after turning off my PC, some of the custom groups are not "attached" by a line to the other custom groups created, thus the load order is messed up. I can fix it by redoing the associations (drawing a line from one group to the other) but it is very annoying having to redo this order every time I play. Is there a way to save the way I have my custom groups set up?? Any assistance would be appreciated. I have attached a PNG file of the group assignments and connections.
  9. The previous post recommendation of an RTX 2060 for your desktop (I assume a desktop) should work, or find it's replacement the 2070. Unfortunately, the prices are insane on these cards due to a "shortage". You might get lucky and find a 2060, but if you can wait, the prices are bound to start going down after Christmas. Just a thought.
  10. Just read an article basically bashing Microsoft's claims that the upgrade is game friendly and efficient. Apparently, it is not playing nice with AMD chips. Will wait a long time before I update.
  11. No idea, need a clue. Does it have to do with the Twilight Zone?
  12. What doesn't Vortex do that NMM does? I can't manually adjust my load order. That, and I have stable installs of several games using NMM, and I am unwilling to go thru the installation process again, with a new mod manager. I am able to manually sort, though it is not as easy with Vortex as it is with MO2 in that in Vortex, you have to create a rule whereas in MO2 you just move the mod to a new slot. I do not use the default groups but have created my own based on someones recommendations online. Since I have done that, my CTDs have gone down even though before I did not show any conflicts. It appears the game likes certain things loaded in a certain order, though this is just a wild guess.
  13. In Hmm. It seems very consistent in certain areas. Can't imagine a mod conflict impacting an idle. It is interesting that the idle was included in the base game.
  14. I can install it as my chip is newer, BUT, like the rest of you, I have my doubts. Microsoft went from no more new Windows to OK, here is one more. The declaration that it improves gaming is interesting, but then again they made the same claim with their Game Bar which actually impacts my performance with FO4. I never like to be as early tester of OS as they prove to be more of a thorn in my side than a nice spring rain. BTW, what is better then roses on your piano? What is the difference between a vitamin and a hormone? Just had to do it. Had no crashes yesterday so I am in a good mood.
  15. Microsoft asserts that Windows 11 will increase gaming performance. I am not sure of this claim as it may be limited to newer titles. Has anyone here that may see this installed Windows 11 and played FO4? If so, can you share your thoughts about the claims made by Microsoft.
  16. To the OP, if you have not used a manager, many people swear by Mod Organizer 2 ("MO2"). I have not used it myself as I started with Vortex years ago. Vortex keeps updating and has more and more features similar to MO2. Check out the tutorials for MO2
  17. What doesn't Vortex do that NMM does?
  18. I enjoy settlement building and want to start sharing my builds. One of my must have mods is JP's Guard Posts and Towers. A seemingly simple mod, but very useful, especially if you like building walls around your settlements. Unfortunately, the MA removed his/her mod from the Nexus and no reason is given. I do not even know the mod author's tag other than JP. I have checked on Discord and other areas that have information about removed mods and if they have been re-hosted somewhere else, no luck. I was hoping to contact the MA to see if he would re-hist the mod elsewhere or allow me to share the mod with other (yes, I know, that is a stretch). Does anyone know the MA or know where/if his mod has been relocated? If anything, I would love to thank him for a great mod.
  19. Are you playing on a laptop of desktop? If a laptop, it could be thermal throttling (maybe even with a desktop). It does not appear that you have any scrap mods have you used console commands to delete items. I could not see anything in your mod list to suggest a direct conflict, but you should use xEdit to look for conflicts. What mod manager do you use? This is the framework I use now with respect to load orders: Master Files Right after Master files Unofficial Patch and Armor keywords Fast Starts and Frameworks Faction and AI Overhauls New Landmasses New Factions Vanilla Quests Modifications Settlement and Workshop Menu Items (Vanilla Menus) Settlement and Workshop Menu Items (Scripted) SMM and and mods that require SMM Settlement and Workshop Menu Overhauls (like Workshop rearranged) Game-Play Changes and Tweaks New Companions NPC and Companion Changes Radio and Audio Mods Visual, Texture, Atmospheric Improvements Lighting and Water Changes Vanilla Settlement Changes and Tweaks Sorting Mods HUD and DEF_UI Mods Pip bob Map Mods Character Model Replacers, Enhances New Weapons, Armor, Clothing (non-craftable) Craft Your Own New Settlements, World Edits Player homes New Settlements Single cell edits Interiors that do not disable precombines. New Quests Weapon and Armor Modifications New barrels New weapon and footstep sounds Any patches to the above weapons and armors; Scrapping, World Edits, Landscape and Terrain Frameworks and other bottom mods I would change out Boston FPS as that is quite old. A new mod, https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/46403?tab=files should help somewhat. I determined that my constant stuttering was caused primarily by Thermal Throttling. I was able to drop the temp of my CPU significantly using Throttle Stop, but my GPU card has not been cooperative. As the weather has now cooled, no stuttering. I hope this helps a bit. There are a myriad of things that could be causing what you have described.
  20. I am glad that you were able to solve the mystery crashes, lets hope it stays that way. I am curious however as to why you added the string "STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, MUSIC\, SOUND\, INTERFACE\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\" to "sResourceDataDirsFinal=" as it has always been my understanding that there should be nothing after sResourceDataDirsFinal=. I thought that by adding things after that that you would be placing limitations on the program. Of course, I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination as programming is not within my wheelhouse. Thanks for the video. You did fine considering you had never done one before. I do have a question and a suggestion. As for the suggestion, instead of clicking each and every node to adjust them into a straight line what I have done in the past is pick the one node and move it up to the desired/necessary Mhz, clicked out of graph, click apply and them bring up the graph again and all the nodes after the adjusted node line up perfectly (caveat: this works when all the subsequent nodes are lower than the first node). Two more short-cuts, once you have selected a node, press control and arrow down and the node will do down by 10, press tab and the cursor will jump to the next node. As for my question, I was under the impression that you run the stress test on the card and note the highest Mhz reading and begin your adjustments as to voltage from that point. I will try your method and see what that does. My video card is rated at 960 - 1200 (Boost) MHz but under stress, it goes much higher. I will experiment shortly and will share the results. Although you do not appear to be into settlement building, given your load order you should check out the mod on the site whose name must not be uttered (LL) for a mod simply called Stripper pole. It works great. All you do is assign a settler and they can be there 24 7, plus, they can sell you food and drinks! I have two settlement build examples of my bars as pics under my name. Take care.
  21. Check out the following with respect to creating a load order in Vortex https://oddlittleturtle.wordpress.com/load-order/lo-survival-guide/ Also check this out: https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Managing_your_Load_Order It is a tedious process creating all the new categories and assigning them to each mod (as well as any new mod you add) but this process really helps establish a decent load order. After doing this (took about 3 hours as I have a lot of mods) the game ran smoothly and actually some previous categories that were missing from my build menus were there again! Spend the time and you will reap the rewards. As for FPS, if you are deleting items via console or a scrapping mod, you will have problems with performance. If you are overbuilding in your settlements, you will have problems unless you have God's supercomputer (which you do not.) Check out High FPS Fix https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/44798/?tab=posts&jump_to_comment=100651208 That may help. Good luck.
  22. Wilhelmina for a girl Wilfred for a boy. Why? Alliteration and I cannot recall any companions having those names.
  23. The RTX is a good card, but the laptop manufacturer has locked the unit, so there is very little I can do with respect to the GPU and CPU (cannot overclock the CPU.) Thanks for the video suggestion. I have looked at a myriad of videos and I understand the concept. The issue I am having is that the GU voltage maxes out at .906 volts and MSI Afterburner will allow an undervolt of no less than .700. That is not a big window to mess with. I have gone as low as .725 V as an undervolt and the result is pretty much a straight line and when I test it by using a benchmark program, the program crashes. At .725, at least there is somewhat of a curve but the temperature goes done less than 1/2 degree, which does not help enough as the video card appears to be set to thermal throttle at exactly 80 degrees. The best results from the standpoint of a benchmark I have gotten are the stock settings, which are OK for the majority of games out there, but not for a modded fallout, thus the slight overclock to the GPU. Still, using the stock settings the GPU will reach 80 degrees (sometimes 83 and one of the cores or whatever a hot spot is, as high as 100 degrees) causing thermal throttle. I think that I may have to play in a walk-in cooler!! Still, my CTDs have been less lately since the temps have dropped here a bit at night. My recent CTDs occurred because I redid my load order (I use Vortex) which took me about 3 hours or so to complete by creating categories based on something I read online. Once my load order settled into my save game, the CTDs have been less. I forgot to mention one thing for you (just came to me as I was building in Far Harbor.) Weather, fog, storms and shadows will f up your FPS and can cause crashes. Reducing video settings to perhaps high or medium (it is not that noticeable a change) will help, as well as ini edits regarding shadows and fog. Never use Ultra because the difference between Ultra and high is minuscule but the ultra settings place unnecessary stress on your graphics card, and thus in your game. Sure, post a video. Maybe I will get some good ideas. I was messing with undervolting the video card today for around 4 hours with no luck. Take care.
  24. While it would look cool and realistic, the game engine and performance may suffer from having all those corpses hanging around until they decay. Just a few corpses would be OK, but more often than not there are dozens (at least in my game).
