Please Help - Workshop Long Loading Times
monesq replied to ChinchillaFlats's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
You may have too many settlement mods, or there is a conflict that the engine is trying to correct. Disable each settlement/workshop mod one at a time (include any mods that are dependent on that settlement/workshop mod), play the game and see what happens until you find the culprit and then try to change the load order with the mod, or better yet load all the settlement/workshop mods and check them out in xEdit for conflicts. -
You may have to do it the old fashioned way, disable 1/2 and see if it CTDs and keep going until you narrow in the culprit. It sounds as if it could be some sort of settlement related mod, but I could not tell from your load order. You could check your mods using xEdit if you know how to do that as it will check to see if there are mod conflicts that Loot or Vortex do not catch.

I have a habit of making my ini files read only, especially if I have made a modification to them. Nevertheless, whenever I look at them when I reboot my PC, the read only tick mark has been removed. Has this happened to anyone here before and if so, how did you come up with a fix?

Fallout 4 SE crashes before loading the main menu
monesq replied to Tysonstiger's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
have you tried starting the game with no mods? If you have, there has to be a conflict between mods that the game cannot handle. If you can properly use xEdit (you really need to know how to use it if yu plan on modding) you can check for mod conflicts, if you can't, there are two options: 1. There are tutorials on line showing how to use the cleaning issue and conflict feature in xEdit; 2. Since you do not have that many mods, and assuming that the mods you have installed also have all the requirements listed by the mod authors, I would disable any mod that you had not used before your hard drive gave up the ghost. Galac-Tac Retribution has 3 other mods that must be downloaded for the game to work, and since this is a new mod, I would start with that one as well as the mods that it requires you install. If it does not CTD, then you have your culprit. If it still results in a CTD, then I would disable 1/2 of your mods and see if it still crashes. If not, then somewhere in the 1/2 that you disabled you will have your culprit. I say 1/2 in that I usually run a lot of mods, but if you don't, disable them one at a time until you find the problem. This method, while not foolproof, will help whittle down the culprit. I say that it is not foolproof in that sometimes it could be the combination of two different mods that are causing the CTD (this is where knowing how to use xEdit really helps). Alternatively, load the base game, plus maybe two or three of the mods and see if that works, and keep doing it. BTW, have you properly set up your ENB? Sometimes mods have difficulty with ENB,not as often as with ReShade, but sometimes. Sometimes, it is not a good idea to enable your mods right from the get go as they may impact the beginning of the game. Check out the mod author's requirements for each mod to see if they have a warning about that. Good luck. -
What mod added this? "The Armory" island?

I have to disagree with the comment that Chaotic Sun is unstable. I played it with a heavily modded game and had no problems at all. It is an amazing mod! -
Groovatron NV port to FO4 - pole dance animations, poses, dances
monesq replied to ntblood's topic in Fallout 4's Mod Ideas
As I tend to build very large and elaborate bars in my settlements, I have been searching for such a mod for a long time. There is an excellent pole dancing mod that you can download on the site whose name must not be uttered. It is fully assignable to any NPC, even a companion. You can even assign the NPC to stay in the area of the pole and dance/climb/twirl 24/7. I have uploaded a pic of an NPC on it on Nexus, just check my "about me" and look at the images I've uploaded. It's entitled Greygarden pole dancing. -

I've been down that rabbit hole. Recently, before I start a game, I go into the task manager and disable every unnecessary program. In addition, once I start the game, I go to the task manager and I change the priority of the Fallout exe above average so that it is given preferential treatment by my hardware. Today, when I was playing Overwatch for old times sake, I noticed substantial lagging and low frame rates. I never had that before so I checked my graphics settings in Nvidia. It appears that when I uploaded an update, the setting for power management was changed to a setting preferring battery life versus performance. No other setting had been changed and I know this as a fact in that I have been experimenting with the Nvidia setting for quite some time now and I know all the changes I have made by heart. I only realized this when I looked for a solution to issues with Overwatch and someone suggested certain changes to the graphics settings in Nvidia, that's when i noticed the setting had been changed for Fallout 4 in the Nvidia Control panel. Just finished a 3 hour play through tonight and my frame-rate remained right around 60 and my stutter was 99.9% gone and only showed up that .1% when I was in the heat of battle while beta testing a mod that included a huge battle between gunners and raiders. The stutter I saw was almost non-existent and I probably would not have noticed it if I did not have an overlay showing me statistics and the like. Of course, now that I have uttered out loud that my stutter problem may have been solved, I have jinxed myself. Damn!

CTD in various areas across the Commonwealth
monesq replied to Toxixs70's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
My first thought, and I am not an expert modder, but I can safely state that I am an expert and creating havoc when I try to mod (but without mistakes, how can we learn?) I would normally look at the mods that are similar to what you described as a CTD associated with a fire particle effect because those effects may have an impact on your graphics performance, which i turn is being impacted by broken precombines, etc. The stresses on the game engine and your graphics card may be the culprit. I do agree with the prior poster that any scrap mod should go at the bottom of your load order, but I would add that I would not be using Spring Cleaning. That mod has not been updated for 5 years. If you are going to scrap using a mod, I would recommend Scrap Everything. The problems you are having in Concord may be due to the load order of the scrapping mod you have. Good luck. -
I like the idea. Unfortunately, I neither have the time, and most importantly, the knowledge in making such a mod. It would be interesting though.

What setting controls film grain effect in ENBs?
monesq replied to NCRForever's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
You either forgot to save the setting first and then apply it, or, another mod is superseding the ENB. -
Strange visual glitch when turning from certain angles
monesq replied to necromunchy's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I had the exact problem with a game awhile back. I had one person respond, but they had no idea what was causing it. I also had Scrap Everything and also had the disappearing objects terrain fix and was running about 350 mods (lots of texture mods) I have more than enough of the required system needs. I am glad someone figured it out. Now I can reinstall Scrap Everything. Nevertheless, I am now having issues with massive stuttering that I have been trying to solve for the past week or so. I have removed 80 or so mods, redone the base game textures and added some of my own preferences, tried every optimization mod, and I have tried everything that Google had to throw at me. I will have a stutter free experience for 2-3 days and without adding anything or changing settings, and then out of no where, stutter. I have not seen any throttling when I benchmark my GPU and CPU, but in my in game overlay that I use for testing, it appears that the game is throttling at time. Very frustrating as I cannot come up with a fix, and if I build any settlement, the throttling will suddenly start or get worse. I must be a masochist. If you look up the definition of a Love-hate relationship, one of the definitions is playing Fallout 4. This game sometimes makes me want to drink.- 10 replies

Automatic supply lines/provisioner routes
monesq replied to Strangething01's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I use Immersive Teleportation 2 ( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/35109 ) , but not the teleport part of that mod, but the portion of that mod that creates supply lines between any settlement that has the the Telelogistics machine installed. It works very well. Once all my settlements have one of those machines installed, I hardly carry anything with me. -
Depends on which Clean and Simple you use. Most of them do sane scrapping, as in not scrapping roads in Sanctuary. Some of them do that, plus make changes to existing buildings. The one I use for Sanctuary fixes all the houses to save you the trouble (you can still scrap the houses if you want them gone). Overall the Clean and Simple line is very well done, and saves you a bunch of time running around weeding a settlement. I'd go for them first instead of scrapall, then manually scrap any thing that is left that you still want gone. Scrapall is the nuclear option you use before a massive build. Save your game before using it, because you might not like the results. If you are talking about Jencave's Mods, they are very well done. I have used her mods for all my settlements. The one she has for Spectacle Island is very impressive. I also used to use Scrap everything, but not the ini that allows you to demolish the game. Still, any scrapping will mess up frame rates in the cell affected. Since I tend to create very large and elaborate settlements, my frame rate tends to drop a lot where anything has been scrapped. The Scrapall command, as someone mentioned above, is a time bomb waiting to happen and I would not suggest using it. I used it once because I was going to import a blueprint and the results of the scrapping were jarring. triangle shaped landscaping, a huge hole under the house where there was a basement, it was just not usable unless you intended to add a ton of dirt and build up the area by about 2-3 blocks. If you are going to scrap, just use Scrap Everything. If you want the least amount of performance hit, use the Clean and Simple mods. Remember, all these mods will break precombines and the like, but that only affects that particular cell and not the entirety of the Commonwealth, and if you are not planning on having a huge build, the drop in performance may not be that bad.

I feel your pain. If I understand correctly. You had deleted /disabled all mods, tried to get to Cambridge CTD. You then uninstalled everything related to Fallout 4, reinstalled the game, still CTD (so basically you are playing a vanilla game)? Have you verified the integrity of your files on Steam? If not, you can do that and see if that helps. If the following is stuff that you already know, then my apologies, I figured I should be thorough. I would not install the game in the program files that Steam defaults to in that your virus program may interfere with the game or mods. I would complete delete all the files affiliated with Fallout in the default folders, as well in the games folders in you Documents directory. Depending on what program you used to manage your mods, you also want to delete that program (if you are using Vortex, you just purge your mods in Vortex. You can make a backup of the mod files so you don't have to re-download them and place them in another file. I do not usually do that in that it is possible that you downloaded a corrupted mod, thus repeating your problem). You should then uninstall Vortex. Basically you are starting anew. I would then go back to Steam and download the game (don't worry about Vortex yet), but you must chose where the files will be installed. What I did was create a games directory on the C drive and had the game files installed on that drive as your virus program does not interfere with files in the root directory. Once installed, play the game with no mods whatsoever, just vanilla. Play it long enough to get to Cambridge to see if it CTDs there. If it does not, you had a mod conflict and even if you thought you had removed all the files, you may not have done so as there are files located in other directories depending on which mod manager you use, and using a save when you have disabled or uninstalled mods will usually result in a corrupted save (depending on the mod removed). Some mod authors will state that you can safely uninstall the mod after making a hard save, but I do not buy that. Never uninstall a mod and continue using the saved game unless you have a save from before you installed that mod. You can create a custom save using the console and what I do if I add a mod is basically open up the console and type in "save name_ of_ the_ mod_05202021. I then check if the save took by clicking on the load option to see what saved games exist, and then install the new mod. Once you have determined that you can safely go into Cambridge without a CTD, you can then look at installing a mod manager as well as ALL of the requirements to mod the game and make all the necessary ini tweaks to allow you to mod a game. In Vortex, you can create several profiles. I would recommend that you create a profile that is completely vanilla, no mods whatsoever. Then create a test profile and start adding mods incrementally and to test the area, you can go to the Cambridge area either by console command, or download and use the mod Cheat terminal which can get you there without console commands. Save the game first before traveling to Cambridge. When you get there, if it does not CTD just exist the game without saving (open the console and type qqq), then add some more mods (preferably, one at a time) and test them again. rinse and repeat. Vortex will automatically you load order, but you must at least use Loot once from the regular game exe file, so that the game can create the required ini files. After that always launch the game using FO4 script extender. There are several great guides as well as YouTube presentations that will help with choosing mods, setting up your game for modding and performance optimization, as well as guide that make suggestions as to what mods to install that play well together. Here are some examples: https://themidnightride.github.io/index.html https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2242115007 https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23556 I would not worry about performance mods but would rather look at have a stable load order and then start tweaking your game. You should learn to use xEdit as it can find mod conflicts that you can identify and possibly fix with a change in load order or creating a patch. I am not that good in using xEdit but I am trying to learn, There are a ton of tutorials to that effect. Good luck. You will eventually have a stable and travel to Cambridge at your heart's content, but it will take time to create a stable build. Sometimes we overdo our modding and it just not provide a great game depending on your machine, as well as limited by the game engine. Hope this helps.

It is unfortunate that people, and sometimes even mod authors, are snarky and/or darn right insulting. I attribute it to two things, Age and anonymity. It is so easy to disparage someone's problems, or someone's mods when you are anonymous, and young kids, well, they are simply stupid and don't know any better. Luckily I have reached the point where my load order is stable, but stability is not the end all be all. I have been plagued with either micro stutter and MASSIVE stutter. My on-screen stats sometimes show a nice straight line for delay in milliseconds and then a straight line and almost a flat top on the meter and then back down to stable after a couple of seconds, then back up again. I have been tweaking everything I could think of to eliminate this issue. I thought I had found a solution as my Sunday and Monday play-through was stutter free and at a sold 59 fps, but last night, it started freaking out again. This can be both an enjoyable game and then an unbearable game, especially when modded. It would be nice if there was more civil discourse.

The Institute is the best ending by far
monesq replied to ateaseyo's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Yes, they are selfish, which is why the player needs to get rid of the leadership after "Father" dies. Not all the scientists believe that humanity is lost. They need guidance and a strong hand (and perhaps a bullet in the head of some of the department chairs). Still, their knowledge and tech are needed. There is a mod that came out recently (have not started it yet) where you can actually control the Institute after Father dies. I do not know everything that it can do, but I am looking forward to play it. It's called Subversion https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/50975 Yeah, I love Thuggy's stuff, but I was not as impressed with the ending as I had hoped because I really still have no say so as to what happens with the Institute. I just role-play that since I'm the boss, I can use Institute tech in all my settlements and upgrade already existing ones with that tech. I would love to get rid of the head of SRB and maybe a couple more and still run the Institute. I believe that Subversion lets you do that. I'm beta testing a quest mod so I had to put my current game on hold so I will have to wait to see what happens with Subversion. -
Check out this mod: Subversion https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/50975 I have not progressed enough in my current play-through to see how it works, but is has some positive reviews.

Mod request, miniature power pylons looking like the big ones.
monesq replied to MrSeptim's topic in Fallout 4's Mod Ideas
Just use the console and use the setscale command. 1 is the actual size, .5 is one half the size and 2 is double the size and so on. You can use any number you want. I sometimes reduce the size of the large generators depending on where I I want to place them, or the size of columns if I need them to be taller "Place Anywhere really helps). Changing the scale does not change the snap points, nor does it change the physics, so when you reduce a wall by 1/2 scale, it may look smaller but if you walk towards its edge, you will walk into the wall. If you are on console, not sure there are any mods out there, but I could be wrong. -

The Institute is the best ending by far
monesq replied to ateaseyo's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
The institute represents hope for mankind, but they are not the only ones that will ensure that mankind progresses. All the factions need to stay alive. The Institutes leadership over the years has convinced the scientists under their thumbs that man is doomed and basically in their way. That mindset has eliminated any real research that may benefit surface dwellers. The ultimate goal of the Institute is to wipe out all the people above ground to ensure their safety, and, eventually populating the world themselves. This is why they created Super mutants and why they infiltrate settlements, replace humans, and nix any sort of coalition of settlements that wish to form some sort of government. It is such a narrow viewpoint. Unfortunately, the Institute's long term plan would not be feasible. The Institute gene pool is very shallow. There are not enough of them to be able to repopulate. Ironically, the Gen 3s may survive long after the humans at the Institute. Had their leadership not been based on fear, and they actually concentrated on cures for the radiation and eventually eliminating radiation and education of the public at large. 1 Bethesda really never gave us any decent choices for an end game. Unless you avoid certain quests, or use mods, you basically cause the elimination of two factions. Realistically, all four factions are needed for the future prosperity of the Commonwealth. A strong military is needed to defend the Commonwealth from outside forces as well as all the creatures in the Commonwealth, the Minutemen to help the spreading settlement system and ensure local safety, the Railroad to provide a level of empathy and morality, especially given the fact that there are so many Gen 3s, and finally the Institute is needed in advancing mankind with their technology and spreading that knowledge, thus providing a future for improvement. Eliminating these factions ensures that there will not be much of a future for mankind, at least not in the Commonwealth. Of course, if Bethesda had allowed an option for all of the factions to survive, we would have been robbed of some very nice battles, not to mention the nuclear blast. Thank goodness for all the free mods that people have shared with this community to make the game more palatable. In fact, there is a new mod out there were the protaganist becomes the Director and actually has power, though the game does present a lot of limitations, it is somewhat of a solution in that there is a way to save all of the factions. My 2 cents worth. 1. Radiation levels over 200 years after the explosion should be relatively low, as would be the effects on the surviving humans. 200 years after the war things should have started to normalize. The real issue however is water. Even if the surface is radiation free, all the radioactive matter would have dispersed into aquifers and that damage could take more than two hundred years of recovery - maybe thousands of years. This is what the Institute should have concentrated on, not creating new life forms. -
Whatever grand plans you may want to implement as the Director, first, you will have to get rid of the SRB, or at least get it under control by replacing the current chief who really dislikes the player. It could still be used, but used to police the synths and nothing more, since another plan would be to give the Gen 3s a choice to stay or leave. If they stay, they will have jobs and receive compensation (not sure anyone is being compensated there-which may represent another issue: scientists wanting to leave or and sell their knowledge to Diamond City, BOS, or whomever. If I had been stuck there since birth, I would want to be able to get out of there to see if indeed it is as bad as most people of the Institute have been lead to believe. With knowledge and protection, you could do very well in the Commonwealth. I would stop production of Gen 3s as they are too close to being human and work toward things like providing better health for actual people. The older generation synths can be produced to do labor such as farming and infrastructure as they are simply machines in that they have no understanding of their existence. The Institute should work with Virgil to see if they can reverse the Super Mutant mutation that they created, and if not, eliminate the threat. The Gunners need to be addressed whose long-term objectives seem to be control of the Commonwealth. Besides the BOS, they represent a large threat to the Commonwealth's ability to grow into a prosperous place. Thuggysmurfs mods suggests that someone is behind the gunners. It needs to be fleshed out better. Whose to say that, like the Institute, there is another faction out there pulling strings and sowing seeds of discontent and using the Gunners to do the dirty work. Education as mentioned before, especially educating those nut-ball children of Atom as to what an atom actually is. Finally, get someone to clean up all the damn trash!!! Over 200 years and even with all those NPCs sweeping, there is garbage everywhere, like a sanitation worker strike in New York. Can you even imagine how bad it must smell in Diamond City???
