EA and Origin: or the beginning of the end...
Arthmoor replied to SpellAndShield's topic in PC Gaming
I lol'd. But seriously, yes, they're more alike that a hell of a lot of people seem willing to admit. -
Somehow I don't think sacrificing years worth of link building to satisfy the silly desire to split MW from OB and make 2 more Nexus nodes out of them would be the best thing to do.

I wouldn't expect a lot of luck porting existing mods to the new engine. There's not even any guarantee that the ESM/ESP format will be retained, and we already know the entire scripting system was thrown out and rebuilt from scratch (confirmed by the devs). Direct model ports won't even be possible until the updates to the NIF format are known, deciphered, and exporters written for them.

Three possible mods I'll make for Skyrim
Arthmoor replied to PaladinRider's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Other than the teleport spells of course. Which there were many of, and even more runes to make it work. I thought that was a neat way to deal with it. -
Sad, yes, but definitely not unexpected. It was pretty obvious over the last year or so that he had become gravely ill and wasn't going to survive for long. When he resigned back in August I already knew that he knew it was over.

EA and Origin: or the beginning of the end...
Arthmoor replied to SpellAndShield's topic in PC Gaming
They learned that behavior by watching Valve get away with it for years. You're surprised? Better yet, you're upset by this but not by anything Valve does? Seriously, do none of you see what you're doing and how silly it makes you all sound when you bash one company for doing precisely the same thing as another? Does. Not. Compute. -
EA and Origin: or the beginning of the end...
Arthmoor replied to SpellAndShield's topic in PC Gaming
Do you seriously think Valve doesn't already do this on behalf of numerous other publishers when they suspect Steamworks infected games have been pirated? Because they do, and they disable peoples' Steam accounts all the time for this, even if there are 99 other legit games attached to it. Valve's EULA is also far less direct about what they want, but read it carefully and slowly. It's the same boilerplate legalese they all use to try and grant themselves access they don't even legally have. @Vagrant0: Aren't most of these games pure crap that isn't worth playing anyway? :P -

Sure wish this kind of anger and calls to action were being directed against the much larger and far more intrusive and invasive application that everyone seems to think is a gift from God. I am amused to no end at the hatred and vitriol thrown at EA and Microsoft both over this sort of thing when Valve has been doing it for 10 years and hardly a peep out of the very same group of people getting screwed over in the very same way. -
Trader on the BBC says Eurozone Market will crash
Arthmoor replied to SpellAndShield's topic in Off-Topic
Potential hoaxer or not, I'm surprised the Euro hasn't collapsed already. -
Note the creation date on this data. Then realize Garry's Mod didn't exist until 2005. I despise gmod.com as much as the next guy but if you're going to suggest people go after them, make sure they have actual grounds.

People like this need somewhere they can vent freely about whatever comes to mind. That place is not here obviously. For me, I use my blog for that purpose when I need to.

I imagine that at least in part it could cause disruption in the forums if the account has posted somewhere. Threads with gaps in the discussion with quotes from now missing members look strange.

IANAL, but I don't see how this could even be legal. You can't simply give up rights via a click-through button. Heck, you can't even do that with a signed and notarized contract. Perhaps Sony is actually trying to push the issue of this sort of thing into some kind of test case? It's inevitable that they'll screw up again at some point and someone will sue, lawyers will see $$$ and a class action will be born. Then Sony will hold up that clause and claim immunity, only to have the lawyers file suit against THAT. The end result would set precedent. It's a gamble Sony may end up winning given how loopy the US legal system is. In other countries it's unlikely this will fly at all as worded.

Selective justice is bad, and leads to revolution. Let's just not go there.

Hey, at least the game has actual shadows. That alone makes it the Oblivion killer we've all wanted!

The law of Windows upgrades states: For every version of Windows that works, there exists an opposite version of Windows that does not. Windows 95: Bad Windows 98: Good Windows ME: Bad Windows XP: Good Windows Vista: Bad Windows 7: Good Therefore one would fully expect: Windows 8: Bad. The logical conclusion then is to wait for Windows 9. This doesn't quite hold for the corporate side since Windows 2000 was good, which gave way to XP, and both 3.1 and NT were bad.

They took mine down, others have had luck getting theirs removed. Keep after them.

Nexus Mod Manager, the Nexus Client, entering closed BETA
Arthmoor replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Actually I did, you just didn't read my response apparently. The installation order of most things makes no real difference, so you're fear of BAIN is unfounded. Right now, BAIN is the only utility for Oblivion with the proper logic to handle resource sharing overlaps. OBMM has zero intelligence in this area and will actually cause you more problems in the long run the larger your load order gets. -
Making My Mod Less Exploitable
Arthmoor replied to Ranokoa's topic in Oblivion's Oblivion Construction Set and Modders
Yes, you can use TES4Edit to remove the script source code. Obviously doing so means you'll need a release copy of the mod and one to keep for yourself in case you have to come back and tweak. You can even get really crazy and remove the source from all the result scripts as well. -
Making My Mod Less Exploitable
Arthmoor replied to Ranokoa's topic in Oblivion's Oblivion Construction Set and Modders
One does not even need to edit your mod in order to cheat. Second mod tacked on that silently makes the player immune to damage, or grants them an uber-healing spell, or some other thing that keeps them from actually dying. -
Nexus Mod Manager, the Nexus Client, entering closed BETA
Arthmoor replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Actualy, according to what you initially asked for, it is, but you've now switched up and are asking for something different :) Yes, and that's a pretty powerful thing. There is currently no automatic sort for mod install order. Such a thing isn't likely to be necessary either. Pretty much every case of overwrites is because mods are sharing a common resource and it wouldn't matter which order they were installed in to begin with. There are obviously a few exceptions, and those all end up near the top of the package order with everything else following after that in whatever order you add them to the folder. The only thing that remains important is what order the actual ESPs load in. And you're already familiar with BOSS. So you're covered there. -

Wrye Bash - the BAIN feature is precisely what you're looking for. -
NPC_ Mod File Format
Arthmoor replied to Noggog's topic in Oblivion's Oblivion Construction Set and Modders
LAND and PGRD records also have compression. I can understand why, there's tons of data in these two record types. I never did come up with a logical explanation for why NPC_ records do. Assuming they used the same compression scheme on NPC_ as they did with LAND and PGRD, it should be zlib. -
Kreisher, If I go there and find any of my stuff on your site, you'll be hearing from me alright, but you won't like it. You guys obviously have not learned a thing about copyright infringement since your last attempt at this.
