  1. Are you saying that New Vegas was written by talentless hacks? Because errm... well I would :P Seriously though, what was up with the quest to "find the men who shot you" when some of the first npcs you talk to say he probably came from Vegas and it was obvious that's where he would be. Then the only way they could stop you from just going there right away was by placing high level enemies and invisible walls in the way so you couldn't just cross the mountains, in loo of any actual mystery or writing.
  2. I agree with the OP. I played Morrowind and Oblivion for 1000s of hours without touching the main story line. It wasn't a drive at all. Exploring was. In New Vegas I took the black widow perk and within a couple hours had made my way to New Vegas since Obsidian really really didn't make it much of a mystery where you would find the guy who shot you. Convinced him to go up to his room and then killed him in his sleep... it was so anti climactic, I was left feeling... what, really? He's dead and now I can take over Vegas just by killing House? Overall I felt the story line was very 2 dimensional and would have just been better served by leaving it out all together. I've never finished the main questline in any of Bethesda's games and have probably enjoyed them much more due to that fact.
  3. I love how people keep trying to convince me like I am one of the developers or something. Should start a fanclub called, change my mind get a cookie! Keast, I'm aware of all that stuff. What does that have to do with the discussion? I said I hope we don't see kung fu and wrestling would take too much work. Pretty sure I never said, Europe doesn't have martial arts RAAwwRRrRr!!!11!! Kaskas, of course it could be done and like I said I agreed with you, but going into grecoroman wrestling or Glima or whatever the hell people want to bring up would take a ton of work. It would be great to see a stealth take down, but I don't think people realize what adding in grappling would take. Maybe I am wrong and they have plenty of time to add it, cool beans, I would also like to see tree climbing, light dousing (ala thief), digging, and many other realistic things added to the game, but given the amount of work they would take I would be happy to just see LOD finished and quest glitched worked out. Altreu you crack me up. It's like I say I don't like Asian food and suddenly you try to show me all the Asian ingredients in the food I eat every day or something. Guess what, when I started playing DnD in 2nd ed, I banned all monks from being in my game, as well as psionicists, that was probably 12 years ago, haven't allowed them to this day. Same stupid stuff happens in every game, like when they added the Tau to 40k to make the mecha kids happy, or when MTG had their Kamagowa block. So my pizza might have a bean sprout in it once in awhile. That doesn't mean it's a good thing. I really don't hate Asian stuff. I'm a huge Akira Kurosawa fan, have studied extensively in Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do... I just hate when I am watching a movie like Dragon Heart 2 and all the sudden monks start showing up doing Kung Fu and I'm left thinking wtf just happened? Btw, all three of you can now have a cookie but you gotta share. http://forums.49ers.com/messageboard/images/smilies/cookie.gif
  4. Why would silverware be worth more gold than it would take to make the thing in the first place? It would be cool to see stealing made more interesting but it certainly wasn't broke or anything in Oblivion. I was rich as a fat cat just stealing stuff. I really hope they don't make it like Morrowind. I got my stealth up, broke into the big family vaults and suddenly the rest of the game was a cake walk. Hell I knew exactly where to get a full glass suit of light armor by level 5.
  5. I really like in Fallout NV and Dragon Age how you can talk to your companions for a long time, learn their backround and perform deep quests which reward you later for getting to know these people who travel with you. I don't just want some Diablo 2 type hireling who I send out to die again and again. Then make one. Yeah I talked about planning to in an old thread you can still find on here. Ill voice it myself so you can download it and bask in the schmexiness. I'm sure you'll love it.
  6. How do you figure it was useless?? In Oblivion I could make a couple thousand within an hour or two just stealing gold and silver tableware.
  7. I agree Kaskas that sounds pretty cool. I know people have made a lot of arguments about grappling/wrestling stuff but there really isn't any room for it without completely reworking the combat system. Can you imagine Todd bursting in the room "stop that work on the magic system! We need to add headlocks!" You put it very well, "support oriented combat skill". It should exist as a tertiary ability.
  8. The first few posts in the link give me hope there is still a semblance of intelligence left in video game fans. Monks have no place in a western fantasy setting. They were only added to DnD to please the Bruce Lee fan club. There are no shao Lin monks or kung fu in Middle Earth or Narnia. There are no ninjas or katanas either. But there are dragons and talking animals and armored knights. That's what fantasy is about to me and what I enjoy about TES despite that Bethesda has put in some eastern stuff like katanas and samurai elves. (wtf Beth, wtf)
  9. Sexy graphics can't make up for depth of characters and immersive dialogue. Let's hope the game can do both.

  11. If It's really coming down to a financial crunch with balancing ads and affording the servers, which is leading to some of these controversial new ads types... I humbly submit the idea of having the nexus index p2p files when people "publish" their mods. It would take a lot less server bandwidth and users would just be responsible for supporting/sharing their own mods with others. Example: User wants to share his new mod, posts it on Nexus just like normal, but the files page instead points toward a p2p file which the user seeds for other users to download off him as long as he wishes to share it. When he wants to make an alteration the index listing and mod page is updated. The more popular a mod is the faster it will be to download/share it. As long as users keep their version number in the p2p file name up to date it should stay pretty clean.
  12. Maybe someone read "Racial armors and unique kill animations" Thinking then that racial applied to both points.
  13. Awesome! Nothing was so dull as in Oblivion when there were no random encounters and you knew where each and every enemy was going to come from each time you started a new game. FO3 actually felt dangerous! Hmm more companions but less personality. I'm not sure if that is good or bad. I am REALLY happy though that there are indeed companions. Still, if there isn't much depth to them they might just get really dull after a while... :ermm:
  14. Thank you Todd. The last thing we need is some silly flying dragon mount. Looks like he has a really good view point. It would be better to not have them at all if full features (cargo, mounted archery and combat, fixed following) are not present. In Oblivion is was just a waste of resources.
  15. It's the closest thing they could get to a real life Goku or Liu Kang. Who else could crush steel helmets with Ki strikes and defeat handfuls of enemies who carry swords and armor? Why get pitiful MMA fighters when I've seen Steven Seagal take on tens of guys with swords and win. Check out his movies, great documentaries of one of the greatest ninjas of the real world! :ninja: Check out this documentary of one of his real fights! Who else could take on all these trained guys using swords without a single weapon himself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaNGJdyt2Ds Let's see some crappy MMA fighter do THAT. And it's a well known fact that when you master kung fu you get the ability to make opponents attack you only one at a time. They are too terrorized to use their numbers against you.
  16. Has anyone done this yet? I would love to see the LOD fixed in the view from the Lucky 38 penthouse.
  17. I've changed my mind after reading all this. The game definitely needs roundhouse kicks, KI strikes, reverse suplexs, flying turn buckle dives, poking in the eyes, and piledrivers. They should get Steven Seagal and Hulk Hogan to do motion capture, since their fighting styles are the most realistic and they are the qualified grand masters of unarmed combat. I bet the devs are reading this thread right now taking notes.
  18. I LOLed. :teehee: Now that you mention it Zaldiir I agree. I used to play Morrowind at my friends house all the time with 2 pcs. We would run back and forth trying to do things or making mods for each other to try out. For some reason doing that on Oblivion never happened or would have seemed as much fun. I hope they can bring back that in Skyrim and make the game a little less, as you say, figured out.
  19. I don't recall disliking it in Morrowind so it must have been alright. Oblivion leveling was terrible... Fallout 3 seemed amazing to me, there were random encounters where you might run into a squad of super mutants fighting raiders, or they might be renegade brotherhood troopers instead... you felt a real sense of danger and never knew what you were in for. In New Vegas I put it on the hardest difficulty with hardcore and besides cazadores and deathclaws it just seems way too easy. I can see any enemy from miles away so I can just avoid it if I want and there's never that feeling of randomness. Infact, I don't think they used random encounters at all. I long for the days of King Quest when games were actually difficult, most people never beat them and you could get yourself up :excl: creek really fast.
  20. I agree completely GL. I think if they gave mounts at least the ability to carry items in purchasable side saddles it would make more sense. I don't want to ride on a dragon or cliff racer. I just want a horse that functions like I would a real horse, utility and not just visual fluff.
  21. But your forgetting the ruthless efficiency of mounted archers. It's really annoying you can't even fire a bow from your horse. In Oblivion horses are useless. Not only can you eventually run faster than them you have to dismount every time some annoying npc decides to attack you. They just become a cumbersome RP mechanic.
  22. We are talking about how it COULD be implemented, all I am saying is that I would want it to run like NWN, you dont have to worry about mod conflicts because automatically everyone would be running the same mods from the server, because the server forces you to use those mods and ONLY those mods. All you have to do is connect. It does it for you. THats what OblivionPortal is based off, we got that working. We just utilize oblivions exterior and interior cells. There are no quests. We so far get up to 8 players max, and the only thing we have issues with is, the Chat client. WE still ahve yet to created localized communication between players. WE are planning on utilizing the OBSE, There are no NPC's at the moment either. But it works so I really don't know what argument you are trying to make. Oh sure, it works, but without quests, npcs and just cells, and the UI isn't adjusted/doesn't work. So in other words, it doesn't work. So I don't really see your point. People can keep hoping the next TES will be multiplayer, your wasting your breath. Considering the only reason we take the NPC's out is because speaking with them freezes the game world and causes a crash, which is why Oblivionportal is designed to have those aspects removed. it's for ROLE-Playing with other people. It's strictly for people who want to RP in a Tamriel setting. People who play games with headsets need not apply. Also because Skyrim has radiant quests, as well as congruent time flow in npc conversations, if we decide to adapt a new client to it, we can and also have those radiant quests. My point is, if we can mod the online for oblivion and actually connect for up to 12 people (and we have) Then we can do it in skyrim too. By the way, the client checks for server updates and checks your load order, corrects it, then connects to the server. Modding oblivion is not hard. Stop being lazy and learn how to do it correctly. Seeing as how Oh, I get it, so you just use it for cybering. :teehee: I think the rest of us who actually enjoy playing the game, in it's immersive detail with npcs, quests and storyline will continue to enjoy the lack of multiplayer. At least... the poll results seem to agree. If anything your efforts only prove it can't be done, unless of course you want to just play around in a 3d tea party graphic system. When I want to do that I play Second Life, a game already made for multiplayer.
  23. "Target Magnetism" aka auto aim... like FO3 and NV, a feature designed to make the game easier on consoles which will prove annoying and necessary of removal with a mod. Aside from that being frustrating the rest sounds pretty good though I'm not sure how the leveled dungeons are going to work. It seems way too abusable, either through intention or accident. I want to go into a dungeon, possibly filled with dread because the dungeon might be far beyond my ability. If I know it's tailored to my level I'm more likely to just rush in and start killing.
  24. If they arn't going to do mounted combat, mounts just won't seem worthwhile.
