I think we should have a non-skimpy and skimpy armor categories
Sonja replied to dueldragon's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I really wouldn't mind seeing something like this myself.... or even an entire sub-area of Skyrim Nexus expressly for those who tend to mostly focus on erotica and related areas. However, I'm not sure it would work... One problem with the filters is that authors don't always "correctly" tag their mods, so even if you've blocked a category, skimpy armour might still appear in your feed. Or, it can also come down to subjective opinion, what might be "skimpy" to one player/author, could be "tastefully sexy" to another.. I suspect we'd encounter similar issues if armours were separated by skimpy/non skimpy. What I find works relatively well is sifting through armours (or whatever else) and individually blocking authors. While there are always going to be exceptions to this, most of the people who create clothing and armour tend to maintain a particular style... So, if somebody has released three or more skimpy armours, and nothing else.. I block them. It's not personal, and I'm not entirely comfortable doing it because censorship makes me uneasy, but it saves my front Nexus page from being filled with stuff I'll never download, and I don't need to block entire categories. I usually do the same with vanilla-voiced followers. It takes a bit of initial effort, but after that it's just a matter of keeping an eye on new mods that pop up, and repeating the process as needed. -
This is a concern for me as well. As to the "Creation Club," (ugh... surely they could have come up with a better name.. ), my feelings, as I expressed earlier, are mixed and very wary, that caution amplified by the fact that I do NOT, on any level, trust Bethesda. Anyone who does needs to take a serious look at their track record; you don't need to be prone to conspiracy theories or paranoia to question Bethesda's ultimate motivation. However.... like you, I feel the potential impact on the community is, in many ways, a bigger concern. Last time around there was a great deal of utterly appalling behaviour from all sides. On one hand, we had certain modders taunting people from behind a paywall, and far, far worse... we had not only the predictable juvenile tantrums from users, but death threats being issued against those modders who got on board. I don't think I've ever been as disgusted by a group of people anywhere. Let us hope everyone has learned something, and that we all attempt to temper our reactions... Nexus, flaws, variations and all, is an extraordinary creative hub and "home" to some of the most talented individuals I've ever encountered... It would be an extreme shame for something like this to rip it apart again.

You are welcome  Aye.... Bladerunner is quite possibly my favourite film, period. In my view, that particular scene is perhaps the most poignant and haunting ever seen in cinema history... made even moreso by the fact that Rutgar Hauer essentially ad-libbed it. I have to post it now...

:D :D :D That's just too good, Bravo!

Open the console, click on a follower. Close the console and quickly navigate to your RDO MCN options. Somewhere in there you'll find a couple of Stop Combat options which will automatically pertain to the follower you just clicked. It's very useful.

There *is* a way for users to deal with this issue... First of all, go through your available filters and block the stuff you don't want to see. Then, start combing through the types of mods that don't interest you.. If the authors in those areas produce nothing but that type of mod, block them. That way, you can fine tune the content on your Nexus homepage without blocking entire categories. For example... I went through a large number of generic, vanilla-voiced follower mods.. if there was nothing unique about them, and their authors hadn't contributed anything but those types of mods.... I blocked them. I also keep an eye on new files, and repeat the procedure as needed. The same applies to skimpy armour mods. While I'm not fully comfortable with the censorship, the reality is that I'm not interested in such mods, so I'd rather they didn't clutter up my Hot Files, obscuring content I might actually want to install.

Simple... They're milking it as much as they possibly can because it's their best (and most profitable) release within the last 10 years. Both FO 4 and ESO were stellar disappointments, and future Elderscrolls, and Fallout, installments seem to be in the distant future. Therefore, they're still clinging to Skyrim as their cash cow, for their continued relevancy, and for the sense of noteworthy achievement it provides; they don't really have anything else.

I now have an extremely stable Skyrim too.... I finally transitioned over to Special Edition... I'm no novice modder (been doing this since Morrowind and I know what I'm doing), and my Classic Skyrim is relatively stable, but I finally decided to give SE a serious try and have not looked back. It is SO NICE to have a Skyrim with sweeping gameplay changes that looks good, AND doesn't require endless screwing about with various memory tweaks/mods/utilities in order to achieve a modicum of stability. Moreover, even after all that, Classic Skyrim STILL feels as though it is held together by hope, luck and sticky tape. I do miss the SKSE mods, but *shrug*... I'm happy to trade them all in for a game that isn't likely to CTD at least once during every play session. And the best part? It hasn't taken six months to build such a game (just a few weeks)... I don't have the time, patience, or energy for that. Moreover... all of that malarky should NOT be necessary, Bethesda should have released a stable, quality product in the first place.... in every area they could learn A LOT from CD Projekt.

I'm going to essentially re-post something I just wrote elsewhere: My thoughts on the entire concept are exceedingly mixed, to put it mildly, and I don't trust Bethesda in the slightest, so like much of the community, I'm taking a "wait and see" approach. One thing I *do* think seems to be better this time around is that those modders whose work is chosen will be treated as temporary developers, and paid accordingly....rather than being "generously" offered the remaining crumbs after Bethsoft and Valve sated their gluttony. This particular issue was a major reason why I was against the initial attempt to introduce paid modding, especially given that in many cases it are the modders that fix and polish the subpar material that Bethesda is prone to releasing. They were basically saying, "So we want you to pay twice, first for our bug-ridden, mediocre product, and then again for the improved/repaired version. Oh, and we're going to be bending mod creators over a barrel in the process." Pretty bloody galling.... As I said, I have little confidence in Bethesda, so while I'm not, necessarily, out there foaming at the mouth, I remain extremely wary. At the end of the day, this feels like Bethesda attempting to reintroduce paid modding through stealth because they're looking for continued profits after ESO didn't do as well as they'd hoped, and they had the rug whipped out from under their feet when FO 4 didn't get GOTY. I ultimately see this as a means for Bethesda to assert increasing control over modding in the coming years. In the short term, we probably won't notice the impact very much... but in the future, when the very best modders have been more or less pulled beneath the Bethsoft umbrella? At that point will Nexus simply be left with bimbos in slutty "armour?" Here is where I especially have mixed sentiments... On the one hand, I feel it's monetising a hobby. On the other hand, there are many excellent modders out there whom I'd be happy to see financially compensated... I'm also fairly certain there are quite a few mod creators who wonder, despite having completely unrelated backgrounds, if they could actually make it in game development.. not exactly an easy mid-career switch for the majority, I'd think. Maybe this could be a way for them to break into the area? Finally, I shall be brutally honest... My own financial situation is frequently precarious. If somebody offered me the chance to get decently paid for doing something I love... I would likely take it. The reality is that principles are often a luxury for the privileged. When the choice is between values and basic survival.... guess which usually wins out? Ugh... I don't know.. it's complicated. (and meanwhile... we have CD Projekt who releases exceptionally high quality games, sells excellent DLCs for reasonable prices, offers many small addons for free AND unfailingly provides permissions for their resources to be used in OTHER games)

I know *exactly* what you mean.... Bethesda did a terrible job with the Hearthfire visuals. In addition to retextures, you may also find these make a difference: Improved Hearthfire Lighting Shezrie's Hearthfire Kitchens and Greenhouses In Classic Skyrim, if I'm going to be building a Hearthfire Home, I won't do so unless the above two mods are installed.

I'm very far away from being tech savvy... but I'm going to guess something like that would require SKSE 64, which is likely to be a while in coming.....

I've never really spent much time on horseback while playing Skyrim Classic, because doing so tended to increase instability. Not to mention, it was often more hassle than it was worth, and I was concerned that Convenient Horses would cause even further instability. However, I've discovered that riding in SE is very smooth, and I even installed the brand new SSE Convenient Horses, which I think is an amazing mod. There is still one thing, though, (one of the reasons I never rode in Classic) that is irksome... All the damned enemies on the road seem to think my character and companions have come along to provide dinner. The Classic version of Skyrim has a mod that removes predators from the roads, but I don't think it has been ported. When I browsed through several likely mod categories I did see at least one file that makes animals less aggressive, but it doesn't apply to companions, making it less than useful for me. I'm guessing that the delay of SKSE 64 has impacted work in this area, but No Predators on Roads is just a basic esp file... It's a nice, elegant solution, and avoids conflicts with combat mods and the like. Is there anything like that for SE? Or, does anyone have any advice. I like being able to ride finally... but constantly having to engage in battle while trying to just reach a destination without fast travelling can get annoying. Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question, unfortunately. However...word of advice... do not use NMM for Oblivion.... Oblivion was created well before the advent of NMM, and it often gets things wrong. I suggest manually downloading your mods, and then using Wrye Bash to install them.

OK.. I am really hoping somebody can help me here. I'm kicking around the idea of creating a custom CM partner wherein I can add written dialogue, as well as use existing game sound files that fire at appropriate moments. The type of character I have in mind would have a fair amount of voiced, vanilla dialogue at her disposal, so theoretically I'd be able to create a companion with a reasonable amount of personality. In short, I'd like to create something similar to what has been done with the Skyrim follower, Valfar... This is what Valfar's creator, Omesean, writes: So far, I've read the instructions that come with CM Partners, watched a couple of YouTube videos, and I've hunted around Google, but I haven't found anything that provides directions on how to add written dialogue to CM Partners, nor on how to edit and add vanilla sound files. (or, maybe I'm just blind, and I'm missing something obvious? ) Can somebody recommend a clear tutorial on this, or help me out directly? It doesn't even *need* to be a CM Partners companion, I just figured that might be easier, given my complete lack of modding experience; I'm open to suggestions, though. To reiterate, while I've become reasonably adept at using the various tools available that make Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim run well, and I've added mods to my games for years... this would be new territory for me, so uhm... hopefully something that is at least somewhat idiot-proof. :D EDIT Clearly I need more coffee.. *sigh* It would appear that much of the information I'm looking for is actually available here. It would seem I wasn't using the correct search terms... *sighs again* That said, I'd be grateful if anyone has any general tips or suggestions in addition to the Construction Set wiki. :)

Looks like Striker has you covered for body mods. Here are some others I couldn't live without: Oblivion Character Overhaul - Gets rid of the hideous potato heads on NPCs (you could also try Enhanced Genetics Overhaul, which looks excellent as well) DarkDarnifiedUI - Don't leave home without this one.. Gives you a vastly superior UI, and does much more to boot (like removing most of those idiot popup messages and handholding) Snu's Dungeons - Makes the caves beautiful and unique (I don't think this one is available on Nexus, you'll need to Google) Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul Realistic Levelling I have a heavily modded game, so those are just a handful of my "can't live without" mods... :D

*waves at Moksha* :D I can't vouch for it personally, but I've read that Reclaiming Sancre Tor is excellent. It's on my definite "To Try" list, if I ever manage to get a character beyond the main quest... *sigh* http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/40757/? The mods listed on this page, that haven't already been mentioned here, are also worth a look: https://www.reddit.com/r/oblivion/comments/4714fa/oblivions_quest_mods/

I'm running a Jane of all Trades Breton right now, but she has a heavy focus in magery.. I've been finding that a number of the bread and butter spells are pretty essential (especially before you can afford to have gear enchanted with CE effects)... For example, Water walking, Levitation and either Light or Night Eye (if you use anything that darkens the game) are critical. Also, if you don't have any ability with Sneak, Invisibility is highly useful. Chameleon is great too, but it's expensive to cast and tends to require higher skill levels (this is, of course, assuming you forego a certain cheesy item). Similarly, if you are a mage with a tendency toward kleptomania, Telekinesis is handy. For further travelling convenience, I suggest both Almsivi and Divine Intervention, along with Mark and Recall. Also, though not a spell, learning Alchemy is a no-brainer... with that, everything else becomes possible.

Some time ago I switched from Better Bodies to Robert's Bodies, and I really have not looked back. BB was great for its time, and is still a very good mod... but Robert's is such a vast improvement. I especially like that Robert's females are much more natural-looking... Those cannonballs on BB always bothered me a bit. Not to mention that the detailing on both male and female bodies is beautiful! Anywaaay... As I think most people here will be aware, a lot of custom clothing and armour mods don't really work well with Robert's (at least on the female body), but I have found some that are, for the most part, quite good. These are: Westly's Assassin Creed Westly's Fine Clothiers of Tamriel Raven Armor for Morrowind - The Witcher 2 armour converted by TheHolyWraith Triss Merigold's Outfit ported to Morrowind by Bahamut Sotonhorian Armor, also converted by Bahamut Hilgya the Seamstress by Plangkye - looks quite good on males, but clips on females, most notably at the back. I RP that "ripped clothing" has caught on in the MW fashion world, so it doesn't work out too badly. ;) Has anybody else found custom equipment that works at least reasonably well?

Something occurs to me.... said modder has shown himself to be childish, bombastic, attention-seeking and hugely egotistical.. Hmmm... oddly reminiscent of Trump himself... :P

I feel this part of that juvenile rant sums up the entire thing: "And it was at that point that I realized that at some point, a real life Nazi - not a joke, not a meme, but an actual person who believes in eugenics and genocide as domestic policy - has used my mods at some point, and enjoyed them. Of course this is always the case when you work with the sheer number of users that I work with, but what really got to me is that knowing that the gamer demographic skews straight white male, and that the PC gamer demographic skews it even further that direction, could it possibly be that the majority of people in the gaming community share these bigoted views? I would certainly hope that given the relatively young age of the demographic this would not necessarily be the case, but given the comments I've received over the years, it certainly wouldn't surprise me if the majority of you were open bigots on and offline.Soooooo, that's why I quit. I realized that I am serving more Nazis than I am comfortable serving. Frankly, ZERO nazis would be ideal, but once we get to be over 10% Nazi, that's where I draw the line. And I believe that there is a high enough chance that the gaming community, including the skyrim modding scene, has crossed that 10% threshold." Where to even begin? My impression is that this particular modder is a typical, attention-whoring SJW, with a massive ego on one shoulder, and a massive chip on the other, who, much as is the case with his equally delusional counterparts on the Right, believes that if people aren't 100% in agreement with him, they are automatically "the enemy." Moreover, many fundamentally decent individuals who actually enjoy this guy's mods have ended up caught in the crossfire; I consider that asinine. (and btw, I say this as somebody who has always been on the centre-left side of the spectrum) While I, in general, have deep respect and appreciation for most modders... I've *always* avoided anything by this guy, because he generally seemed unwilling to take responsibility if his (very buggy) mods caused an issue. Yes, there are many stupid, and lazy, mod users out there who are apparently illiterate... but attitudes like his are inexcusable. So.. while I view said modder's actions as puerile in the extreme.... I, personally, don't consider his departure any great loss. (though I do feel badly for those who enjoy his work) I'm rather reminded of this:

I'm not actually a huge Irish Rovers fan. I often find their music to sound a bit too canned. However, I really like their version of "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye." It's easily one of the best renditions I've ever heard... haunting, poignant and chilling:

Posting this, by my favourite singer and composer... RIP Good Sir... seems apt. Amazingly, it was released in 1974. Prescient (or maybe it's just that nothing ever changes):

What a lot of people have failed to understand is that the US election was, fundamentally, about the economy and class. Did nativism and xenophobia play into it? Of course they did; I'd be deluded to discount the role they played. However... they were just one part of what happened. A large swath of people in the US have been utterly ignored by the political elites for a very long time. These are, in many instances, the *exact* same people who, in fact, voted for Obama in 2008. These "Forgotten" (to use Trump's words), believed Obama would bring change, and return their livelihoods.. safeguard them from further economic hardship. These are the same people who would have likely considered supporting Bernie Sanders. If you distil Trump's message during the election, and strip away the hatred and stupidity... he really didn't sound all that different from Sanders, and people responded. The DNC screwed up. Hillary is hated, for good reasons, and people saw her as the establishment harpy that she truly is. Further, owing to her exceptional hubris, she didn't even campaign in what she perceived as "strongholds." Instead, she arrogantly wasted time in places like Arizona, assuming she could wrest votes away from Trump in such areas, and taking for granted the "support" of her "base." Moreover, the Centre and Left, in the US and elsewhere, have been largely taken over by SJWism, rather than focusing on real issues that effect *everybody.* I'm pretty sure a backlash against that has been in effect as well. (and I say this as somebody who has always supported the left side of the spectrum... now I'm simply alienated and despise them all) Were I American, I would have, in good conscience, refused to vote for either. I'd have carefully researched the candidates running for Congress and so on.. but I'd have written somebody in for President. I felt George Carlin, and Robin Williams, would have been excellent choices. Yet.. all the DNC does is point the blame finger, refusing all the while, to look directly into the mirror. I feel this video, echoing the one posted by the OP, sums it up perfectly (warning- contains profanity): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY-CiPVo_NQ

Undoubtedly, I am going to regret wading into the fray here, but what I see in this thread is a microcosm of real world politics... There are a lot of people on all sides shouting at one another, and nobody is hearing a thing. I'm not a modder, I've only used and appreciated mods crafted for the Elderscrolls games for years; I honestly would not play Bethsoft's titles without mods. Over the course of those years, I've seen more than a few asinine, self-entitled users, and I've lost count of those who seem too lazy and stupid to read a mod's description and/or readme. However, I have also observed poor behaviour from mod authors on occasion. Usually, I attribute this poor behaviour from the latter group to worn out patience (I've always placed Elianora in this category)... I *know* I'd become very terse and snarky if I had to answer the same questions over, and over, and OVER again.. when the answers are clearly displayed on the description page. Nonetheless, that said, I have sometimes witnessed behaviour from mod authors that is utterly unwarranted. Personally, I just avoid those individuals and their work, but I *do* think that perhaps all should be subject to the same rules and standards and that poor behaviour should be treated as poor behaviour, regardless of the source. Anyway, all of that crap aside... I think Elianora creates some lovely mods, and I look forward to reading the AMA.

You are welcome. Agreed... it would be nice if Nexus could find a way to further refine screening, specifically targeting the front page. I have several entire categories blocked because I'm not interested in soft porn cluttering up my front page either. Again, I'm not against it, as such, but it's not something that I'm about to download, either. I considered going back and blocking individual authors, as I've done with followers, but ugh..... going through all of them would be a tedious nightmare. Ah well, it is what it is.
