    • Yes, I would like Hot Files by Category rather than the popular mods this week out of the whole database.

This is a poll that spawned from reading a conversation earlier about the Hot Files being clogged with typical and ultimately less diverse content being featured. Now it's just a suggestion for a future Hot Files system should the wonderful folks running Skyrim Nexus choose to ponder what they might do about it if anything. So be honest and if you have further commentary go ahead and say it! This is not a battlefield for a flame war though, everyone should be able to post their ideas and debate in a respectable manner (anywhere on the Nexus for that matter). Please strive to do so, I'd rather not have to request that it be locked or get it locked because some folks get out of hand.

My idea of a better system would be to have Hot Files featured for each Category. By default, the Hot Files would cycle through the list giving five mods from each category some much needed 'face time' whether it be decided as 5-10 minutes or 24 hours. More than that, I would like the given categories to be set either as a preference or just to check them out at will instead of waiting for it to cycle through. If you're only looking for certain categories perhaps you can disable or enable which ones you would like to have displayed. Some categories are a little iffy, like Models and Textures. It's a very broad range that encompasses anything from the texture of the dirt/grass/snow on the ground to the ever-present and popular nude bodies. Not sure how to get around that, it's a sticking point for me right now. But either way, I think it would be an overall improvement to the system and features a larger range of the massive database.

The scope of this poll isn't extended toward the Featured File in each category, but that in itself fills a gap in the important task of dredging up those lost gems from time to time.

Anywho feel free to participate for grins, even if you don't post and simply select one of the options.

Anyone can use the search function and search each catagory, sorted by various criteria, such as most endorsed, most downloaded, most recent, etc. This can be set for each individual catagory in the files section. All it takes is a little (heaven forbid) effort.

The problem is not with effort, but mostly so that there are other things on the Hot Files that represent each category from the front page. There are plenty of mods being released but we only see the most popular of the week out of the entire database. The goal is to not only show that diversity but bring to light some of the less popular but superb mods being created. For example, things that are not an armor, weapon, companion, nude body or decidedly adult in nature.

Fun fact, while my mod was a Featured File it received more attention than not. That's the idea, to bring the many thousands of mods some attention as a whole. People might not have to ever ask again why an adult mod is more popular than an awesome quest that another modder worked on. For that matter, and Adult category would be something else to think of.

You missed the point, good job. The idea is about the front page. We already know we can search and change categories. The issue is the front page. Front page. Front page. Going to say it one more time so you don't miss it. Front page. We are tired of seeing the same type of mods keep appearing on the front page all the time. We want to be able to choose what we see.

In other words, I don't mind searching through categories that contain adult content, but I don't want to constantly see it every time i go to the main page. Having a more dynamic hot files would not only fix this, but would allow the users to choose what they would like to see appear on the front page.

Now I said front page many times already. Hopefully it doesn't blow past you this time :3.

I have to admit; I anticipate seeing awesome new mods but most often it is the same ones. Popular is just that,....popular but that is entirely irrelevant to what is or isn't a good mod. I'd personally like to see more mods featured in some way. I like the front page as a quick "what's hot" but the real truth is that I only use the search when Im after something specific; and conversely I can't search for something that I never knew existed because quite frankly, I also want to play the game so I don't search every single category for something new....thats alot of searches and categories. Im all for a reformed version of Hot Files.

My .02,

I submitted a basic suggestion that we have the option to turn off specific categories, and adult files, specifically for the hot files as a use preference. If you look in a category, there are already featured files for each one separately from the hot files section.

I definitely don't see the point of adding every half decent armor model mod and slight change to a hd texture to front page just because. It's not properly representative, especially since those mods are so popular partly because of how throw away they are. While they are always getting more awesome and epic I'm more likely too keep content and quest mods in my list for ever, even though I may only download and endorse if the once. It'd be good if at the very least when a new one is added to the list it isn't of the same type as the last. The front page is probably a good enough place to promote good modding trends, at the very least. I've seen some epic dungeon mods get burried because under a pile of naked ladie-bits.

That being said I don't really know what determines which mods are singled out.

@ Nudedragon: Good on you for suggesting it, you might be after something more simple in design but that might be a better way to do it. It doesn't have to be complicated, it could be as simple as adding it to the Preferences page as checkboxes that filter the Hot Files content. Obviously it's a bit more than that under the hood. I do like the Featured Files as I've said, it's a very good step in the right direction.

@ jackowonderful: I believe that it's how many downloads they get within a set time of being released, it doesn't seem to be endorsements. After a week is up another takes it's place, but like you've mentioned the sheer amount of certain types of mods overwhelm the Hot Files so we don't really see much of 'unpopular' mods. When I say unpopular I mean that the community on average leans toward "pervy" types of mods, although on occasion I see something different up there. It's just not that common even though there are thousands of mods hosted.

I would be more than happy with a category rotating Hot Files, it would certainly show case some very good Mods that don't really see the light of day...I know of a few under loved but absolutely brilliant Mods that are almost unheard of as they get buried under a ton of others.....Though it does really stick in my craw though that these threads springing up about what's seen on the front page only appear to have spawned since it's no longer another half nude Armor for females....butts or bouncing boobs on display....but a Mod for males instead. In other words I support the concept, but in no way support the reason why it's suddenly such an issue.
