Piracy

Now, I have this Friend, let's just call him AncientOne for now, wait, that's me. Ok, We'll call him AncientTwo. Anyway, this friend managed to download a pirated copy of Morrowind and played it a little bit when he was at College. But when the game kept Crashing to the Desktop, the hack that he was using to play the game wouldn't allow him to download the precious patches.

So, I ... er ... this friend went to find the game in stores, since it was such a great game, HE, not me, just had to buy it. But when he got to the stores, they were all sold out. There wasn't a place that this wonderful game could be found. So AncientTwo went to Amazon.com and ordered the game.

The game came and AncientTwo lived happily ever after, playing Morrowind into the long hours of the night.

I know AncientTwo very well and I know that he would never buy a game without first being able to play it or a demo, and since there was no demo out, and AncientTwo did not know anyone with the game, he was left with no other option. (granted, he could have just bought the game since he had already loved Arena and Daggerfall, but other game manufacturers have made games that were horrible after having already released a couple of great games)

That is my story of how I ... I mean to say, AncientTwo acquired the game of Morrowind.

-AncientOne

Sounds to me like AncientTwo didn't get a very good copy now did he?

Oh no, the precious developers and publishers have one square less of toilet paper in their roll. The horror.

Besides, who doesn't love pirates!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have downloaded a few games in my past, but i try to buy most games now. ^_^

what i REALLY totally do not agree with is the real piracy, selling on of other people's works for a profit.

copying im not sure, the first version of morrowind i got was copied. but of course i couldnt patch it, and when i tried it got fried. so i bought the game, and im very glad i did! :D

*cough* he doesnt have the expansion. And it really is hard to find the original morrowind. I looked for it for a couple of months and couldnt find it. Only place that had it was best buy and they only had one copy left, so i snatched that one up. The only reason i asked is because the guy wanted the game but didnt want to buy the original game because of how hard it was to find. He's planning on buying one of the expansions and wanted me to burn a copy of morrowind so he could install it on his comp and have a copy incase his computer ever crashed. Im not gonna burn it for him, but ill install it on his comp.

I always heard how hard it was to get this game so I was worried as I was walking in the first store I looked for it in. It ended up being the first and last store I looked in.

Ok. this is only a question. Is i piracy to rip morrowind just so someone can install the game? I mean, if they bought tribunal or bloodmoon or whatever, is it bad to burn a copy of morrowind and give it to them so they can install it to play one of the expansions?

Hey now, don't be so uptight. It's called file SHARING. Stressing the word SHARING. You enjoy the game, why make a friend pay for enjoying it as well? Is lending a car to a friend a crime? Is lending a friend a cup of sugar a crime? Of course not. So allowing them to enjoy a game shouldn't be a crime either. Come now, you can't tell me that you don't burn music cd's, or listen to music on your computer!

We prefer to call it sharing. SHARING

This is a fictional story of SHARING. My friend has a game that I like, and I have a game he likes. My friend has a burner but i trust my friend so we borrow aka. share each others games. If he burns my game and I don't find out thats his problem and if I find out that he burned my game I'll tell him thats it's illegal and tell him why. If he doesn't give me the burned copy so I can destroy it I'll tell the company that makes the game.

Veil not your vices in virtuous words.

Piracy is stealing. Calling it "sharing" does not change that. It doesn't matter how many or how few people lose however much money or anything else. If you have to ask yourself "Is this piracy?" "Am I doing something wrong?" there's a reason... because you know you are. We never have to ask ourselves if we're doing the right thing when we know we are.

If you pirate software, you are stealing. Do it if you want, but don't try to color it something it's not.
