computerguy12
The last of my PS3 controllers crapped out on my and now I have to use my PS4 controllers but PS4 doesn't have a "select" button for the 1st/3rd person view swap. I went into the controller settings to change the view swap button but it wasn't in there. I downloaded a mode from 2017 that was supposed to help with DS4 but it make fallout 4 not launch. I bought fallout 4 via CD and not through Steam (which supposedly has DS4 support now). Anyone go an idea of how I can make this seemingly simple adjustment to keep playing Fallout 4? HeyYou
As the game is more than 30gig, you aren't going to get it on one DVD, more like four, or five...... Where did you purchase the game that didn't have a steam requirement? Back in the day, when these were actually on store shelves, the DVD came with a code, that you fed to steam, and steam downloaded/installed the required files. So far as I know, that is still the only way to get the game. (aside from buying directly from Steam/Valve....)
StormWolf01
Heyas ComputerGuy! (awesome name, btw!)It has been a VERY long time since I have played this game on a PS4. Tho, I DID start the addiction, from a PS4.IF I remember correctly.... and I'm NOT saying that I AM... the toggle for that is by pushing down on your left analog stick.Hopefully this helps, if not, I'm really sorry  Ok, double guessing myself now. But it might also be by pressing in on the left side of that rectangular touchpad area on the top of the controller (forget what it's called). I appreciate (can never spell that without spell check) the help, turns out the problem fixed itself and it now identifies the "share" button like the select button and goes from first to 3rd through there. I do sincerely appreciate the responses as I had all but given up on this forum not many seem to chime in these days.
showler
If you bought a copy of Fallout 4 that doesn't use Steam, then it seems likely that you bought a counterfeit copy.

Games have been their own programs for a long time, all steam does is install an unnecessary additional program that monitors your gaming to market directly to you. showler
Actually, it's the sales, delivery, updating and DRM platform for the game. The DRM part is kind of important.
computerguy12
Sales and delivery can be done by any store. Digital downloaded game sales are comparable to physical software sales, digital saves them money not you. Updating is done by the game creators not steam, steam just relays the updates like your cell phone carrier relays your phone's software updates. DRM (Digital Rights Management) platform only benefits the game companies copyright enforcement, which I'm not against but I'm also not for downloading unnecessary software that monitors me for marketing purposes for their benefit (Facebook and Google are enough of a problem with that). As long as buying something DVD is a possibility (which regrettably won't me much longer), I will continue to do so. I don't want to log-in to a launcher every time I want to play my game. I want to install my game, put in the purchase code once, and click on the short-cut to the .exe file from then after. showler
All perfectly understandable. I don't believe Fallout 4 ever offered you that option. Steam (or now Gamepass) was a requirement. At any rate, since DS4Windows allows you to map any button to emulate any key on the keyboard and is completely separate from Fallout 4, I can't imagine why you are having problems in the first place.
