smilinjim1
Hello, I have an issue with Vortex continuing to update extensions for games I do not play and never intend to play even when update extensions is set to off.
Guest deleted34304850
couple of things;1. don't turn extensions off. just leave them active. if you don't have the games they're designed for they do nothing. so set everything thats currently off to on.2. go to downloads - you should see the extension sitting there. if it's already installed, just delete it from the downloads area. smilinjim1
That is just wrong on so many different levels. Thanks

Solution Tannin42 Posted June 7, 2022 Solution Share Posted June 7, 2022 Just let Vortex do it's thing, these updates are a few kilobytes usually. For one thing: these extensions provide the information on how to detect the game in the first place so without the extension, Vortex wouldn't know that you don't have the game and thus couldn't decide to not update it and for all Vortex knows you might have the game and the update is what fixes the detection. But also: Vortex extensions aren't "isolated", an extension can provide functionality for a whole bunch of games (like the gamebryo plugins extension providing the functionality for a whole range of Bethesda games).Game extensions are fundamentally the same, just because an extension is the "Skyrim" extension doesn't mean bugs in that extension can't negatively affect you when you try to play other games. They shouldn't of course but I can't vouch for the code of everyone else. So just allow Vortex to update - even if just so we know everyone is on the same version. The alternative is for us to release more full Vortex updates which are then >100MB downloads... smilinjim1
The version of the software that is installed on my machine functions perfectly for my use case. Rule of thumb, do not fix something that is not broken because you might break it. As for the software not being able to detect if a game is installed on my system. That is scope creep and unnecessary, I understand how a directory or file manager works and can handle that without needing to add bloat. If I decide that the software need an update I am fully capable of finding said update and installing it. Maybe you should have a repository were downloads can be accessed. Thanks for your time, but the answers I have read are not satisfactory.
se7en227
I normally don’t comment on these types of forums at all, but I've been going over several of these threads for the same reason why many others are here as well and the same answers given by people like "showler" and the guest3304850 account are both useless and outright rude. Obviously it makes zero sense to be forced to download extensions for games we don't own, and in truth when i say stop automatic updates this should also include updates for these unnecessary extensions. If you guys had any common sense you would realize why everyone on here is asking how to stop this non-sensical behavior from vortex instead of providing meaningless excuses and "solutions" that are nothing but empty words. showler
You can't turn them off. That's the way the software is designed. I don't know a more polite way to say that. If that's a deal breaker for you then use different software.

Please refer to the solution in this thread. If you're still having issues, feel free to create a new thread rather than bumping years-old ones.
