The future of Skyrim Mods?

Recommended Posts

Whatever hasn't been done yet? I honestly don't know. It's been years since both Morrowind and Oblivion came out and brilliant mods are still being made. I expect the same for Skyrim. This community holds so much creativity, amongst other things, that can definitely keep modding alive for some time.

In your honest opinion what do you think the future holds for Skyrim Mod authors?

Taxes; then death.

(Sovngarde, or more likely, the Hunting Grounds.)

I'm not sure it's possible to generalize what the future holds for Skyrim mod authors.

Based on past Bethesda games you'll probably see some stick with making and improving on their Skyrim mods for many years to come, as people still are today with Morrowind mods; you'll see some authors abandon mod-making entirely for various reasons; you'll see some new mod-makers come in late and do great work; you'll see some move on to modding Fallout 4 when it comes out; you'll see some stick with modding Skyrim until TES6; you'll see one or two get hired by big gaming studios.

Of course, the world is always changing. There are factors that looking at the past games can't account for, like the possibility that Bethesda (or some other RPG company) shakes up the modding paradigm in some way in its forthcoming games--the possibility of monetization and so forth--and/or the lowered barriers to entry in indy gaming, making it so that people who might once have thought of making a certain type and scale of mod, might choose to try to make their own game instead. And I'm sure there's more that I'm not thinking of.

Fallout 4, TES 6, and whatever comes along :) I think Skyrim modding has been done to death, I would make more mods(than I already have lined up, picking at slowly) but most of the stuff that is needed or wanted is there for the taking so adding more of the same isn't that important...for me at least but I don't ask for much. I just want to play with some new toys now, until then might get into TESO.

I keep wanting to come back and expand my mods (Fur Hoods HD and my unreleased questline) but I keep worrying its too late and all for nothing. I don't see that much interest in quests, and these days it seems like the only thing really shown around Skyrimnexus is skimpy women in skimpier outfits. >.<

I agree with what "seems" to be the norm these days, but there are LOADS of people wanting to get back to the basics. Take Inigo for example. He's just another companion mod, right? Heck, he doesn't even have a quest in game yet. He's even blue. Why do so many people fall in love with a blue khajit? He has personality. He has backstory. He comments on things as though he's your friend, not like some brainless body with long flowing hair. He's going to be getting at least the first parts of his quest released in a month or so, and there are already people dying to learn more about this follower-become-friend.

People like really well-told stories. If they want pixel porn they can get it anywhere, they don't need Skyrim for it. I'd say work on that questline, make sure it fits into the world, and people will love it. As far as HD Fur Hoods... I play first person and my followers tend to not wear fur... so wouldn't do me much good personally *grin*

Mods keep releasing for the game, and some impressive epics are being created still. I don't think we have seen the end for modding Skyrim, since Morrowind/Oblivion both are still receiving mods. As long as there are people interested, developers and players a like, new mods will exist and people will use those new mods.

TES 6 ??? ... nope. they already stated that tes online will NOT be able to be modded. its because its an online game, gamers would have to run the same mods, thats simply impossible, so they said NO to MODS FOR TES ONLINE. actually they said that already several times. considering the amount of bugs in a regular tes-game... well, i dunno about you, im gonna say "thx, im gonna skip this one".

TES 6 is not the online game, thats a different game not to be confused with the single player games its been stated that they are "supposedly" not impacting any of the future TES single player series.

Northborn: I hear you, its been that way since Oblivion (to a lesser degree in Morrowind) and it will be that way in any future moddable games. But if there is one thing I have learned in modding its mod what you want and do not care about who is more popular, if you care about that then you should try a different series then TES (I find the FO groups to be alittle more interested in quest and lore friendly stuff it seems) its always going to be about the girl with the largest set of breast and hips with the least amount of clothing. I have come to accept this.

I ignore those mods best I can and do what I feel like doing, I know I for one would use your mods because I already use your mods and have enjoyed them since the day you released your hoods. You may not get the big downloads or big numbers but those of us who like good quests or lore friendly stuff will use and appreciate your work.
