Changes to soliciting ratings/file of the month votes

I was getting a bit peeved at the "file-of-the-month-link" myself. It seemed a little underhanded that all the people asking for file of the month votes were the only ones getting them. The way I feel is, if you have to ask for it, you probably don't deserve it.

 

Other than people trying to syphon votes for file of the month, I think the rating system is pretty fair.

I would prefer a simple system like "I love it"; "I like it" or "I don´t like it"!

 

I always felt something is wrong when I see a rating of 8 or 9 and a couple of hours later someone posts that because of this rating the MOD dropped by x places within the top 50 or top 100 and the person should give a 10 or not rate at all.

 

I do understand that the overall standing in the tops means a lot to some MOD creators and for some others it may be just fun to give excellent MODs that made it into the tops a rating of 1 or 2 below average just to get them down a bit.

 

I also would like to see the comments removed from the forum or see them in a separate space, Those "I have given a rating of x", "cool", "must have" or "keep up the good work" don´t add anything worthwhile but can make negotiating some threads a pain.

ugh, I wish you admins would just ease and let everybody do what they want, I mean I don't even rate files that I don't like any more, I mean why even have any rating lower than 10 if anybody who uses it has to fear getting banned, honestly just ease up and let anybody do what they want, moderators respond to spam and maybe severe cases of trolling other than that let people do what they want because right now you guys are just dictators and socialists doing whatever you want and not letting anybody else feel relaxed and welcome

 

first action I believe should be to remove Buddah from this site, I have been standing by so long and have kept under the rules, but I see time and time again where unjust action is taken and I never say anything, I am risking my account which I have worked hard on, my kudos, my file's ratings everything, just to get it out there, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I wake up tomorrow and find that I have been banned, you need to shape up now, and until you show some serious meaningful action no one will believe you

 

Dark0ne you do what you want and not what the people of this site want, you see these high ranking, loyal members, the only reason they agree to everything you say is because if they say anything against you they will be banned, listen to a real member of this site and take some real action, relieve Buddah from his position as moderator, he is old man and doesn't seem to realize the values of todays free world where people can do and say what they want without the fear of persecution, Buddah should allowed to be a normal member, but should not be a moderator

 

the only reason he is a mod here is because he contributed to the community with his List o Links and people liked him, I liked him too before he became moderator, it seems he has overstayed his welcome, this is why he is not a moderator on the Beth forums, they know what they are doing and don't just go along with the popular choice, honestly I believe you Dark0ne need to either grow up and act like an adult who doesn't just go along with the majority, but actually act like a leader and take some action

 

take Barack Obama, when he came into office he took action right away and closed down the hellhole which was Guantanamo Bay, you need to do the same because obviously you aren't going anywhere, this is your site and ultimately only you can change, we can't remove you, this isn't the US of A like you said, we have to abide by your dictator ship, but at least take some action and remove Buddah from moderator

Oh Lucien834 and WarThug14 are old old accounts that I made back in '07 for the purpose of rating files as they should be rated without getting banned, sorry if you misunderstood, but this is my real account as was varco65 which is not banned btw I dunno where you got that idea...

 

oh and those snide comments and insults always have a reason behind them usually responding to an insult directed at me...

 

and in case you didn't know, my "snide" comments outweigh my regular comments 1/100, but you should know that, you read everything

No need for the ban hammer just yet; I'm sure there are some others who feel the same way who need to start seeing things from our perspective.

 

Edit: didn't realise you're a banned member. Will consider this tomorrow when it's not 2am.

 

First of all this site is the result of 8 years of work by me, and several years of work from several of the moderators here. Countless hours, much more than you can probably imagine, have gone in to making and maintaining this site.

 

At the forefront of this in recent years have been Buddah and LHammonds who have tirelessly and diligently kept this place to my liking. Yes, this is how I want the site to be run. I make the decisions here based on my own wishes that are influenced largely by the wishes of the greater community. Buddah and Lon then go about making sure these wishes are kept, and for that I'm forever grateful.

 

They have both put in thousands upon thousands of hours in to keeping this site the way I'd like it to be kept, perhaps sometimes against their own wishes for what they'd like from the site, and for that I'm not only grateful, but more inclined to listen to whatever they have to say over anybody else here. Why? Because they are bonafide, no doubt about it, DO'ERS. They don't say, they do. So when they have something to say they don't just fall back on a few forum posts or a few mod releases, they fall back on thousands of man-hours put in to this site, this community, to put weight in to what they say. Not only that but they are willing to bear responsibility when they get things wrong and there isn't a week that goes by that I'm not in parley with all the staff over current matters in regards to bannings, suspect members, members causing trouble and more. I've no misconceptions that I'm currently the time bottleneck, and that's because of my responsibilities to my course.

 

They're not running amock, doing as they please, they're a part of a team who have been working together for several years, who know each other's mindsets and know when to deal with things themselves and when to ask for help.

 

So when someone in the community comes to me and tells me that they don't think they're good at their job I tell them where to go. Why? Because I know far more about it than anyone else here, bar the other staff. That doesn't mean I don't listen to peoples' concerns on moderator matters, some actions have been overturned and responsibility has been taken.

 

Many of these recent issues have arisen from a ratings system that no longer fits in with the ethos of the site. Now that's my responsibility. However a rating system overhaul is a time consuming process that requires designing, implementing and then careful monitoring. It's time I cannot currently contribute to the site but plans are under way to introduce a system in the near future that better reflects what it is I want. At that point I expect bans to reduce significantly.

 

Lastly let me say this. I'm not GameSpy, I'm not IGN and I'm not any of those other major corporate sites. I don't answer to anyone except myself and the community. There are some who don't like how this site is run, and that's fine. I learnt very quickly back in 2003 that you can't please everyone and since then I've been pleasing myself (if you laugh at a possible inuendo, you lose) and I've been pleasing the community in as utilitartian a way as possible. That's me. That's my ethos. If you don't like it then nothing is keeping you here. Nothing.

now this is all true when your running a small little web community with 4 or 5 friends, but we're talking about thousands of people here, there can't just be one guy who does whatever they please, and that's just what you've defined, a plain simple monarchy, you do what you want, you are king? Why do believe this is the right thing, now I feel so oppressed right now because unlike the "US of A" we can't vote on our leaders, we have no say in how this site's systems function, we're just oppressed "citizens" in a communist nation. What the hell man? Now if you had a system like this:

 

Premium Members - Members who pay "taxes" should get to vote on their leaders: Admins and Moderators

 

Doesn't that at least put some control in the hands of the actual citizens? I mean right now we just have to take your way or the high way and that's freakin messed up.

 

Now I know I'm not a premium a member, but I would gladly pay to vote on the leaders of this site, that would make some sense.

 

Ah what the hell, it doesn't matter now, after voicing my opinion, I'm obviously going to be banned just like everyone else who tries to open their mouth about anything. God, this is so so so messed up.

I'd just like to say that I don't mind people *asking* for votes, because that tells me that they are confident that they deserve it. To a certain extent, that tells me that maybe they do deserve it because it invites me to judge it all the more closely (and if I find it merits a vote, then I'll vote for it).

 

I don't want to vote for something where even the author doesn't want me to vote for it, and I don't really expect everyone to want me to vote for their files.

 

In fact, I think we should encourage people who want votes to give us several reasons why we should give them a vote, and tell us about themselves and the efforts that went into the file they made, etc. That would certainly help me cast my vote, and it would naturally encourage more people to vote.

No it's not messed up, your view of the definitions of rights and privileges is what is messed up. You admit to creating alternate accounts so you can "supposedly" vote files the way you think they should be voted and yet that is exactly what you've been doing on your current account.

So I downloaded it and tried it, studied him from all angles and looks pretty much exactly like Male Preset 1

 

oh yeah the "custom race" that you were so proud of is just face paint, real niiice, I rate this an honest 4 because it didn't take much effort at all, and the face paint was made by someone else

 

watch some tutorials, I know your new to modding and all, but i just don't feel it took much effort so that's my rating, hope you will improve soon ;)

I think you just like to stir the pot, complaining about restrictions that as far as i can tell haven't even been effecting you. If we premium members did have a voting say in things and your membership was in question, I'd be the first one to vote your trouble maker ass out the door.
