Devs say Baldurs Gate 3 shouldn't be a "baseline" for rpgs from other devs- I disagree and here's why

Rude.

I was not belittling you specifically or anyone else for that matter. I was however stating a belief that the "tik tok" generation has the attention span of a squirrel on crack.

After all old folks like me never had to put TLDR disclaimers on a long post we took the time to read the whole thing; ......... most of the time.

Of course I come from when the internet was not but message boards like this and Rule34.

Twitch is a counter for what is popular on Twitch nothing else. I again refer you to my comments about EverQuest a game most people thought was deader than Anthem yet it is still alive and well today.

Oh and by the way I was one of those people that wrongly believed EQ was dead.

Does that make you wrong about Starfield being a disappointment to most of us who actually are willing to get on forums and talk about things like this. Nope.

Does that make you right about it being dead because you use what is in my opinion a flawed system to judge a game's vitality, again nope.

Now your number from Steam and GOG are much more telling Especially the Steam numbers. Those numbers are ones I would use when talking about a games vitality. Using Twitch is just talking about what is trending on there at the moment. You see, Twitch is a business, it is how a LOT of people make their living; so are they going to stream a game that they love but no one wants to watch..... ORRRR, like a smart person are they going to stream a game that is getting a lot of views.

And to be honest we do not know why people are not interested in watching Starfield; because it's bad? Boring? Spoilers? They want to experience the game themselves?

All of the reasons above are reasons a game may not trend on Twitch and why I do not use Twitch as a barometer for a games vitality.

Steam numbers now that is downloads and a ruff estimate of the number of people playing and such. However like Twitch is does not account for people playing offline.

There is not truly good indicator a game is dead. I played Anthem right up until the Servers were turned off and let me tell you I was not the only one playing. While EA rightly or wrongly gave up on the game,(which is what killed it) The game had some semblance of a heart beat all the up until they pulled the plug.

Notice I did not mention Nexus once as you stated Nexis is VERY Bethesda biased. Which is not a bad thing Bethesda games are mostly what are modded and talked about here. So it is kinda expected.

With that, yes I agree this site is not a good barometer for the vitality of a Bethesda game.

Did Bethesda let us down with Skyrim/Fallout 4 in space. Yes most defiantly.

Robbie the Robot following me around in the first mission on that moon, is just GAHHH!!!!. I am trying to sneak and he like CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK BAD GUYS OVER HERE YOU SHOULD SHOOT THEM!! Try and be alittle louder you malfunctioning toaster I dont think they heard you planetside!!!

When compared to games other games that have come out this year Starfield really only beats Diablo 4. That is pretty sad for a company that released 6 games of the year in a row (Daggerfall to Skyrim and Fallout 3 and 4)

P.S. I can never remember the game before Daggerfall nor can I rememer if that one made game of the year or not?? Arena???? Maybe?? Or something like that. I know that the Elders Scrolls game line has been money for Bethesda, make a game cash a big ass check.

why is someone disagreeing with your flawed and biased viewpoint, and providing several sources of data that is used industry-wide to show how a game is being played or not across several platforms rude?

how much something is played on twitch in not an indicactor of a dead or failed game it just means that it is not being playing on twitch much.

How much is it being played by people not on twitch?

Perhaps because of how buggy or intensive it is because from what saw at launch Starfield did not like being played while trying to stream it people are playing it offline.

Is the game still selling copies? What are its Steam or GOG numbers? How much money did it make?

Diablo 4 is considered a dead or dyeing game yet people are logging in a playing it ALOT from what I have seen. (Talk about complacency and could have or should have done better looking at you Blizzard)

So I do not use Twitch numbers to judge a game "life span" after all I recently learned that Freaking EverQuest is still Alive and well.

FREAKING EVERQUEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When is the last time one of my old school gamer buds even thought of that game and to learn is STILL has a fairly major following and gaming community??

You put too much faith in Twitch an Tik Tok Most of us have longer attention spans.

I still play Everquest.

redacted for space/ also I know what I posted lol.

That is what I meant here is someone who has been loyal all this time and can prove me and twitch wrong Almost no one is streaming EQ on Twitch but I bet that Mr Cuerove here can confirm the community is alive and not only kicking but thriving.

Meanwhile I thought it was a dead game because I stopped hearing about it until I was going down a YouTube rabbit hole one day and happen to get a "EverQuest how is it today" video that was posted I think only a week earlier than I watched it which was last month.

So that is part of the reason I say Twitch is not a good measuring stick for a games vitality.

Everquest is an old game with a older player base, one far less likely to be streaming, and Twitch wasn't the only source I cited.

Twitch is an accepted metric within the industry, if you don't want to accept it then fine but that doesn't change the fact. The buzz around Skyrim and Fallout 4 went on longer than it has for Starfield, the possible reasons for that is what we were discussing. At the end of the day if you like Starfield then none of this matters, it's not the like the two and half trillion dollar company behind it is going to suffer if it underachieves, nor is the game going to vanish, the only thing at risk is the Xbox platform which won't be long for this world if it doesn't start improving, that's if the leaked emails from Phil Spencer are still applicable.

Firstly please point out to me the moment I disagreed with you that Starfield is dying or a disappointment I believe if you go back and actually READ my post I am not debating that I simply debating using Twitch as a metric

And whether it is accepted or not I disagree with using it as a metric for a games vitality. your numbers from Steam GOG and Google were to me much more meaningful to me than what happens to be trending on Twitch.

That said I was never debating Starfield being bad that is pretty much accepted as fact at this point I think even people that like it feel that Bethesda defiantly could have done better.

Also I am not alone in this Rhykker and several other youtuber's who also stream on Twitch agree that using Twitch is a bad metric for a games vitality

What is twitch? And why should I care how many folks are playing a game on it? (if that's a thing) I really don't care what anyone else thinks of the game, I don't need other people to tell me what I should like, or not like. Their opinions are exactly that, THEIRS. What makes their opinion oh-so-important? Because they have a YouTube channel, or blog? Yeah, that just shouts "I am qualified." Yeah, OK, maybe not. I enjoy the game. I don't need other people to validate that for me. Same thing goes for if I DIDN'T like it. Why folks feel this need to glorify those people is beyond me. Most of 'em are just folks that couldn't GET a real job.

Now that I'm actually playing the game I have to say that this thread is seriously hilarious.  As expansive and expensive as this game is it still suffers from most, if not all, of the same flaws as every other game of the type.
