Its an interesting concept, as everybody knows everyone over there is/has converted to the same currency. The United States of Europe is the next logical step, and hey, its about time America had some competition.

I voted yes, but not for a while.

I voted not sure, simply because in future wars that may or may not take place anyting could happen. It is possible that the middle east may one day become a nation also eccept for isreal they would be that nations enemy. Anyway a united europe would definetly get paranoid people on edge thinking this is the end of the world and the we will soon have one world order. And by making them one nation you would stomp on thier sovernty and history. I personaly I hope it dosnt happen.

I voted never going to happen. Because it really is never going to happen. It'd be the same as America becoming a one-state country in terms of never going to happen.

I also voted that it is never going to happen because to be honest i really dont think it could ever possibly happen. Yes it sounds good 'Yey where all united and happy and living as one!'.......nope doesn't quite work.

Everybody likes their independancy, for hundreds or even thousands of years nations and people have fought for their independance and the right to exist, every nation has a wealth of history and Akrid is right you WOULD stomp it out.

Then lets not forget the rivalry and hate between nations, if you threw everyone in a huge pot i doubt they'd all co-exist peacefully. And no doubt in a government controlling the whole of Europe curruption would be ripe.

So really i hope it doesn't happen as well.

I don't think it will ever be possible. Most of if not all of the countries would pull out of the EU if things looked as though they were heading that way. A lot of if not most of the people in the UK already want out, including myself. I mean, for crying out loud, they're even telling us what types of wheat we can grow.

Heh, I find it quite funny how everybody predicts that the United States of Europe will never be possible when we're nearly there already. Without any judgement whether I approve of it or not, the mere fact that there is a draft for a European constitution is evidence enough that the possible foundation of the USE isn't too far away.

Of course one cannot deny that the ratification of that document is not a fact and that there isn't consent about all points of that constitution, but it is a matter of fact that as soon as that document is ratified, the EU will become a fully-fledged state, the United States of Europe. One could wonder whether everybody is really aware of this and whether we're able to cope with the new tasks accompanying the foundation of a European state, but that doesn't alter the fact that a valid constitution equals the existence of a (new) state.

Uh huh. Can any of you imaging a president of the EU speaking, what, fifteen different languages?

Let's see...

German

French

Spanish

English

Italian

...

AT least. and besides, if they include all those little countries...

Hungarian

Romanian (if it's a language, I’m not sure)

Danish

Swiss-German (way different, trust me)

...

Ok, that’s 8 for sure, 9 maybe, and there are some major accent changes in and around different places, just like we have here. And I’m sure there are more languages. And what are they going to do with the rest of the countries?

Like the Ukraine, would that be in? And what about Russia?

Assuming this can be hurtled by adequate amount of translating deles, and then you have to content with that many different cultures, that many different governments, that many petty rivalries, and than many more difficulties in unifying different systems. Money is one thing. Countries are another.

And what about road signs?

Can you imagine having to pack all those languages on one sign?

Thank god we all (most) use the same numbers.

Obviously we'd have to develop an entirely new language that everyone could understand!

Frengeritaspalishnese?

That'd take care of 6 countries in one go at least.

Kzinist has a point here. Have you read the history books recently? Our countries have a rampant habit of disagreeing and shoving cannons down eachother's throats over it. We wouldn't do that now, but still, getting us into a country together? :laugh2: Not gunna happen.
