I saw this while scrolling through the bans thread.

Download abuse. 100k+ mod downloads in very short period of time.

How the heck did they do that? Actually, don't tell me. I don't want nor need to know—probably a computer program or some other malarkey.

Here's a better question. Why would you need to do that?

It's called 'scraping' and is usually from site owners who steal mods for their pay sites. I don't know much about programming, but maybe there needs to be a download limit imposed to stop this. These unscrupulous thieves are making money from our hard work and we modders get nothing.

Speaking as both a modder and a mod user, I would welcome this.

I thought there WAS a limit...... Hence, why I only download one file at a time..... Apparently not the case.

Occasionally I download 2 or 3 mods at a time (usually have to pause the other download(s) so that one of them takes priority and doesn't get slowed down).
But one-hundred-freaking-thousand-plus in a short period of time?!  That's just absolute insanity!  I really don't see the point of that...  Some people, dude, holy smokes yikes.

Me too mostly... sometimes I queue them for exactly the same reason I don't queue them - our internet speed is so slow that even a snail could outstrip it. If I'm not planning  to sit through the however many minutes/hours/days it takes I queue them but mostly I don't because I'm scared it will get confused and take even longer.*

You see I have a different response to the 100k - I think@ Wow - fancy being able to *do* that... 😀

*... I blame Graham ( someone I used to work with) who was a networking expert and explained it to me. I've ended up with a strange mental model.

LOLOLOL. Yeah, I hear ya on that one. 😄 I would love to have the bandwidth, not to mention storage space..... to get away with that kind of behavior. 😄

We have 2.5 megabits per second... I'm going to do the reverse of what most people do and say my speed is worse than yours - so there! 😛

Anyway... what was going on the other day when someone was banned for  reason: None?

Didn't like their haircut? Mods having a bad day? Or how about they've implemented the new banning sword, dual wielded with the ban hammer!

More seriously, Pickysaurus explained this a while back:

I have looked into this. It's actually just a quirk of the system. These accounts were spammers these bans aren't meant to even generate a thread.

So likely a spammer whose shadow ban was less shadowy than intended.

Yep, that was a spammer.

Phew - that's a relief. I thought the next one might be:

Zixi - reason None...

or aka for putting ideas in Demorphic's head...
