Gunslinger808
I ask as I remember a while back it was considered a pirated version and any discussion of it as it related to modding questions was a no no and could get you banned due to Steam having pretty much a monopoly. Now that Nexus has support for GOG games I’d “assume” that’s no longer the case.
scorrp10
It is a legal version, but in some aspects is still a "red headed stepchild". I.e, AFAIK there is still no Racemenu for latest GOG version...
Gunslinger808
Race menu does work, you just have to ignore the DLL warning you get when loading from Vortex. It hasn’t caused any issues, when using it… Yet. Now Faster SMP is a buggy mess, but then it’s had problems with Steam version too as I have both. DirebearCoat
What is COG?
showler
Not COG, GOG. A digital storefront that sells games similar to Steam. It should be noted that GOG is owned by CD Projekt Red and has never, ever been associated with piracy and Nexus Mods has never had any policy, official or unofficial, that would result in being banned or warned for buying games from GOG. I have literally no idea where the OP pulled that nonsense from.
wfandrews
GOG "Good Old Games" is a legitimate site that sells many Bethesda games after the DRM is dropped, whether by Bethesda or Steam I do not know which owns the DRM. It is mainly known for selling old titles such as Might and Magic, a series of games I first played in the eighties. I purchased M&M 6 through 9 from them as I really enjoyed those games, also some of the Ultima titles. If you are into nostalgia you can buy many old games from them relatively cheap. ModEnjoyer52
GOG is very viable, it is my preferred version. The latest version of it is 1.6.1179 and I have a very big load order working well. Racemenu works without a warning (there is an updated DLL). New DLAA mod was recently released as an alternative to Upscaler (there is also the Lossless Scaling program on Steam). The only mod I like that works on Steam but not on GOG yet is Simply Knock. The only issue with buying solely off GOG is no access to Creation Kit and no access to the in-game Creations store if you want the new stuff there. If you have Skyrim on Steam as well, you can legitimately buy Creations through its store, download them, then transfer the new files into the data folder of your GOG installation and it just works.

Yah, there's still no Creation Kit for the GOG version, as far as I know. 11 hours ago, wfandrews said: GOG "Good Old Games" is a legitimate site that sells many Bethesda games after the DRM is dropped, whether by Bethesda or Steam I do not know which owns the DRM. Yah, I've bought and re-bought a few games on GOG (though not Skyrim). Sometimes you can get something good for really cheap, especially during a sale. A couple of re-buys were to get a legit DRM-free copy that would run properly in Wine on modern Linux, since the DRM on their original versions would not. wfandrews
I think it is a little weird that GOG can sell SSE AE but not Skyrim legendary. Evidently Legendary is still under the DRM. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I am on that subject would have an explanation.

Well Skyrim Legenardy's page was removed from being visible on the Steam store as well a fair while back, it's still there but you have to hunt down a working link for it.
