Mod Browsing Overhaul Discussion

Just chiming in to say the redesign is garbage, fewer results when searching for mods now - previously I had the pages at 133% zoom and still had maybe 5-6 results per line (can't remember exact number but it was clean and pleasant to look at with more content per page), now for whatever f-n reason we have fewer results with larger tiles. It's torture.

This clearly looks designed for mobile users, which is pure idiocy considering this is a site for PC mods, I've never ever checked nexus on my phone. If you persist with this, I hope the site absolutely crashes and burns since whoever approved this redesign should fail in their endeavors.

Oh since a dev seems to be here why can't we just have the option to go back to the previous design. There seems to be a lot of people wanting to use the old design and a lot of dislike(myself included) of the new design. Lack of dev response to the dislike clearly present here and the lack of any sort of polling to even see if the dislike is present in the wider userbase is just wrong and needs to be rectified. I was gonna switch my monthly to a yearly sub but after this and the disrespect from the devs I just cancelled it completely.

We run a website that's all about modding! You're modding a website? Have at it!

Of course we can't easily support any issues you run into with a modded setup, but it's your browser and device. Go for it. 🦾

Then have them get rid of using Shadow-Root when it comes to any page with the search.

Just go to any mod's page, the search on those pages are running within that which prevents people from fixing things locally.

Using Shadow-Root is just bad design overall as there's no actual benefits to using it.

A person cannot re-style anything that is running within Shadow-Root, its entire purpose is to restrict that.

I'm not looking to diminish your opinion and it's not my call to make on all the issues raised, but there are responses from the dev team in this thread and other communication channels. We also ran hotjar polls both during and after the beta which captured responses from the wider userbase. Purely stated for fact, and not judgement on whether that is sufficient for you.

Yeah I've seen a bit of FUD around this. It exists because it solves a problem, and unsurprisingly we are using it because we had that problem! 🤣

We wanted to re-use implementation from a newer framework on our old interface and we found that a web component was the best approach on balance.

There was no intention to make it difficult for anyone to modify things. You'll just have to trust me on that. 🤷‍♂️

Then there needs to be options for the pop out as people cannot re-style it.
There NEEDS to be an option to have it behave as it was, and not as a full-page-blocking window.
Even the keyboard shortcuts should have a toggle in the user-settings. They can be defaulted to on, but there needs to be an option to have them off.

If people aren't going to be allowed to fix things themselves, then they need to be given options.

Selection bias is a thing.  That people are more likely to complain than compliment is a thing.  You can't just ignore that in order to push your narrative.

Basically, people are accusing the staff of lying about their data based solely on the fact that a lot of angry people have posted on the forums, discord or reddit.  I have observed here long enough to realize that a lot of angry people will post on the forums, on discord and on reddit for a lot of reasons.

It's weird because I cannot, for the life of me, imagine a scenario where the staff of a company like this would lie about the feedback and hurt their own company by doing so.  The only scenario that makes sense to me is that they are actually following the data they collected and will make changes that work within that data.

Just like they did eight years ago.

They keep slashing with "mobile device" like with a sword, but you can't work with such generic term in any serious analysis without further specifying. Even display of smartphone or tablet can be used as both height or wide screen, a fact which was ignored too it seems. And it's why I see their decision to make their UI vertical by design and for favor of smartphone (as one of mobile device classes only) as just ridiculous and without sense.

This UI affair is a disaster, I don't understand how it can happen on such scale.

I omitted to mention, if you're looking to mod this then you'll find the web component is only used on the pages currently served by the older framework- primarily the homepage and mod detail pages.

The homepage will be updated to the new framework soon (we're talking weeks, not months). I don't have a timeline for the mod detail pages.

Currently the game homepage is the only place where one can actually re-style the search popout.

The mod pages are where it is using Shadow-Root and thus locked down.

Edited:

On second glance, I assume actually you were referring to the main site homepage then and not the game homepages.

So in the future, they'll all actually function as to how it is on the Game Homepages?

Right, sorry for the miscommunication, I do mean the main site homepage. That'll be served by the new framework soon and there won't be a web component required.
