Recently, I decided to learn how to use the GECK to start making mods and I was wondering, how long does it takes to learn to use it to make mods like yours? Someguy2000 is pretty much the best in the business, so you could probably work for years and never reach his level! I'd say a couple of months to get some sort of basic competence in using the GECK would let you make good quest mods, much less if you already have some experience with programming. I am also wondering if the program needs a lot of performance because my laptop kinda sucks. Depends. Scripting - do you have any knowledge of scripts, coding or similar things? Have you done any map making in the past (easier than making mods, but it's a good start) ? While the scripting might not be as difficult as program coding, it still requires a good deal of understanding what you want to achieve, and how your code lines and scripts will/can achieve that.Story wise - written anything? Novels, short stories, dialogue etc. that other people considered at least OK, if not good or very good? Or at least did you practice writing to some level? It's not that hard to make dialogue and back story for mods, but there's still a bit of talent required. The above I find to be a requirement for any future mod maker.. and if one doesn't wish to learn any of them, one has no chance :) As for how long, depends on how quick of a learner you are. Try and see for yourself. Don't listen to those saying there are no resources - I know there's a thread on the TES forums about GECK usage, as well as a bunch of youtube videos. I won't say that I'm a professional writer, but I do have some inspiation when writing. Also, english is not my native language (this is why my english kinda sucks), which is gonna be a problem. Well...seems like I have a lot of work before I can start doing some awewsome mods (if I ever do some). And don't worry, there won't be any assassins on dragons with nuke pistol in my mods (sorry if I offensed anyone who already did a mod like that :confused: ).
