Problems with your ads

I know ads are required for users not paying but this is nuts.

everytime I go onto your site to download and try a mod I get flooded with ad pop ups and multiple video ads on the page. I can't even click on links on the mod pages, only the search pages.

your site is the only one doing it and I have done multiple scans of my computer for adware/viruses.

anyone else having this problem?

actually started when I went to this page http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/2333/?

I didn't have any problems this afternoon when I was on the site.

I haven't seen it, but then I've been Premium for some time now.

Others have seen the occasional bad ad, though. The Nexus uses third-party ad providers, and sometimes a bad ad gets through the providers' screening processes.

You should probably contact the Nexus staff privately, through the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of every page, and give them some more information about the ad(s): your location (different countries/regions see different ads), what page the ad was on, date and time you saw it, a description of the ad, and maybe a screenshot of the ad if you see it again. Nexus staff can forward this information to their ad providers.

Drake talked about this before, in another "bad ad" thread:

The ads displayed on the Nexus sites are served from a 3rd party ad provider and deliver different contents for different regions.

The Nexus or Dark0ne has no control over what gets displayed in them, other than being able to report individual ads to the provider or request their removal from the rotation.

But to do that they will need more information about the actual ad served, like, as was asked for in the past every time, at least a screenshot of the specific ad that does this, maybe information about your region and other details you could gather yourself will help as well.

As for a full anti virus and malware sweep through "their" servers, of course the ad provider could recommend this to the individual server the regional ad is retrieved from, or the Nexus could recommend this to the ad provider at least, but I don't think on the other end anybody will even listen to it. At the end of the day the ad served more likely isn't "infected" or something but rather does all this "on purpose", a bad apple inside the ad provider's regional rotation.

Found the problem but not the source.

It was an ADWARE infection and I believe I got it from an infected file from the site since I hadn't been on any other site but fallout nexus in 3 days.

I had been downloading mods off and on all day trying different ones until I found a combo I liked, and then I get hit by the virus when I went to the link I posted previously. The kicker was I only wanted to try the mod in a test game and not in my actual one.

I wonder if this was one of the files infected when the hacker hacked one of the staff accounts a couple weeks ago. food for thought.

  • 2 weeks later...

A new one got by, it forced open another tab and a windows warning box popped up saying my java was outdated (that is a lie) I always keep java up to date. and I have avast which tells me if any programs are outdated (I have to update manually but it still tells me)

The infected files were removed within 20 min of being put up. Unless you downloaded them within that 20 min time frame on that date when the issue took place your issue is not from those files. Also the file you linked was not involved in that incident.~Lisnpuppy

If you are seeing a bunch of pop ups - you have a virus. The actual Nexus ads are not obtrusive and do not block seeing any content. If you do find a objectionable ad, please get a screenshot and report it - but be sure it's not being served by some hijacker or virus first as we cannot do anything about those because they are not from our 3rd party ad servers.

Simple way to eliminate ads altogether - Get a premium subscription - any subscription of any amount gets you ad free for life (even after the subscription runs out) for those too cheap to get a premium, (they start at about $5 US for one month about £2,99) we have a supporter subscription. This was actually intended to simply allow people to prove they were old enough to view the adult image section, but if you do this - again No ads for life - costs a whopping $2 US. (Or £1,29)

Any subscription, including the supporter allows you to see the adult image share for life also. :woot:

The premium memberships help pay for improving and keeping the Nexus on line. Every little bit helps.
