Where The Hell Is Glarthir?

I am trying to finish the majority of my current quests, the one I can't seem to finish is where I have to meet Glarthir behind the chapel. I wait until midnight when he is supposed to be there but there is no arrow on my compass and no one has any new information about him.

What's going on?

In fact glarthir (nutcase) sends you to spy on 3 people. If you are a good boy tell him that they are not trying to kill him. In the end he will not believe you and attack you. Now whip out your weakest weapon and torure him to death >:( >:( >:( . Otherwise report him to the guards, or confirm his suspisions sending him on a killing spree (he might send you though never done it).

I completed that quest day before yesterday. It did get kind of old since I had to spend 3 days in a row spying and then report back to him.

I played it straight and gave his "hit" note to the guards and they killed him.

I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I had done the assassinations he requested.

Anybody tried that?

I took the key off his body and pilfered his house. He had some interesting notes on a desk upstairs.

He mentiones Mythic Dawn in them. I wonder if he wasn't really on to something ? :)

Being a good little camper, I turned Glarthir in after he gave me the note.

Being the stinker that I am, I simply lied and said all three were spying on him simply so I could get paid.

Didn't even have to wait three nights. If you get to him early enough, he'll walk back home after your first report, then come back out and wait for the redezvous behind the chapel for your second report— still on the first night! Guy's truly insane! Of course, I lied and said the second person was spying on him, even though I hadn't even bothered to see it myself.

After the third, of course, Glarthir got taken down and I looted his house. True to the paranoid type, Glarthir doesn't keep his riches in something as obvious as a locked chest. He stashed a huge amount of gold in something a lot less showy.

If you decided to kill the people, I am sure that you would be seen soon after with the guards on your tail. They are innocent people and therefore you would recieve a nice bounty. However, if you did not want to kill them, he gets pissy and goes off to do the deed. He first goes to his house to get an axe (at least he did with me) then he hunts them down and kills them.

There's another possible ending to the quest. Once you recieve the List of Death, show it off to the intended victims. When I showed Bernadette the note, she was horrified and begged me to tell a guard. When I showed it to one of the Surille brothers, he said that Glathir had gone too far— then he and the other Surille ran off to kill Glarthir themselves!

Rather than risk getting the Surille brothers in trouble for assaulting Glarthir, I then promptly turned the note over to a guard, which seemed to put every guard in town on alert, because the gate sentries closest to Glarthir at that moment despatched the wacky Bosmer before the Surille brothers could get to him.

This ruined my chance at showing the note to Toutius Sextius. It would have been interesting to gauge his reaction to the note: would he have attacked, or soiled his pants? I will not soon know.

Update: if you show Toutius Sextious the note Glarthir gives you, his reaction is the same as Bernadette's. Bit of a disappointment, really. I wanted him to start blubbering or running circles in sheer panic.

Odd, though, that they don't suspect you to actually carry out the dastardly deed Glarthir demanded...

Glarthir's notes:

I'm not sure about the Mythic Dawn connection, but one of the notes mentioned David Surille wandering off from the vineyard, probably to bury treasure or soemthing similar. I wandered a little ways north of the vineyard, and found a nice pond with a nirnroot and a buried chest with minor-to-crappy loot. So maybe there was something to the notes after all?
