What happened to the community patch?

As has been our policy since the site's inception it is important that mod authors gain permission to use other user's work and then properly credit them irrespective of the nature of the work. As it is the very first comment on this file asked:

Did you have permission to use all the mods here? I only ask because this is a good idea and I would hate to have it removed because of that.

A valid question. The response:

No, I haven't got permission, but these are essentially bug fixes for the original game rather than new content and sooner or later someone would have come up with them anyway. I've done this in good faith that it will be seen as a service to the community and the important thing for me is that the authors who fixed things are recognized and thanked. To be honest I think it would just be a waste of everyone's time if I went around asking permission for these. Best to get them out there so everyone can have a more enjoyable game. Everyone, if you use this, PLEASE download and endorse the original files listed in the read me. That's all I ask. Thanks.

Which isn't good enough. Permission must be sought and credit given to everyone who worked on the fixes unless the author specifically stated to the contrary. That's how we roll.

Fixes are great, but please do it right.

Well, thanks for clearing that up Dante and Dark0ne. I didn't realize the situation was much more serious than what was being described by the rumour mill. Hopefull, this project will find some arrangements and be able to move forward with your help.

i was offline due to my pc mainboard giving up the ghost and now that i am back - the patch is offline? what is going on here?

whoever has complained is only giving the finger to the rest of the community, thats my opinion on this matter.

REMOVE THE COMPLAINED CONTENT and make it available again, problem solved.

Okay, thanks. Not having permission and just copying other people's work is definitely taboo around here. The kind of thing a Robin Hood type would do for a scene type "work," definitely not kosher here. It seems we'll have to wait for a modder who actually can be bothered to get people's permission.

Well, then. FWIW, this has his list of URLs. (Note that this is straight from the last readme):

Official forum thread

IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS READ ME CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT CAN HELP YOU AVOID BREAKING YOUR GAME

==================================================================================

As this mod is regularly updated and the comments thread functions as a tracker for links to fix suggestions, issues and solutions, if you suffer from any issues you believe are linked to this patch, PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE READ ME AND AT LEAST THE LAST FEW PAGES OF THE COMMENTS THREAD BEFORE POSTING YOUR ISSUE. I will not respond to issues covered in the read me, nor deal with questions I have already answered a few pages previously. Please, make my job easier rather than harder. Any issues that arise with the current patch I will post at the top of the description page, so please check this if you return to view the file.

Caps for emphasis: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO DISABLE ANY FIX MODS YOU ARE USING THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THIS PATCH AS ANY MODS THAT ADD NEW RECORDS HAVE HAD THEIR FORM ID CHANGED. THIS COULD LEAD TO FUNKINESS. THEREFORE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU THOROUGHLY REVIEW ALL MODS INCLUDED IN THIS PATCH. IF YOU NEED TO REMOVE A FIX MOD INCLUDED IN A RECENT UPDATE, REMOVE IT AND THE OLD VERSION OF THE COMPILED PATCH IF USED, CREATE A CLEAN SAVE (SEE BELOW) AND THEN LOAD THE UPDATED COMPILED PATCH USING THE CLEAN SAVE.

I hope that's clear :)

Thank you

=========

A massive thank you to everyone for your support so far, in fix making, fix suggesting, helping others out in the comment thread and endorsing (also a special mention to Streetstar5 who has offered his valuable FNVEdit skills and is helping me with the updating of the patch). I would also like to say congratulations to everyone involved on the FOTM votes this mod has been receiving - go team!

What this mod is

================

This is a compilation of fixes available on the Nexus, merged into one esp. As a general rule, this patch is for fixes only - not improvements. A fix will in most cases only go in here if it's broken in the game, not if it's just a bit naff and could do with a brush up. However, if a mod is more of a small tweak that improves immersion in some way and 'should have been in vanilla', we will consider including it.

Changelog: Fixes added or changed in v0_05:

===========================================

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THOSE WHO INSTALLED v0_04:

It appears some of the meshes from FOOK caused issues. Please do the following before installing: Go to meshes\Dungeons\NV_Goodsprings and delete NVGS_RmCorIn03.nif and NVGS_GS_RmCorIn03.nif

Light Step ED-E v.1.0 by Save-vs-DM

Floating robots shouldn't set off mines.

Doc Mitchell Stealing Fix by Kobu

Clearly a fix. Now you can't just loot Doc's house with impunity.

Shotgun VATS Critical Damage Fix v.0.9 by gudnaimsartaekn

weathers family sandboxy v.1 by Aluminumfoil

Now they won't just stand around.

No Faction Warning PopUp v.1.0 by Lexx

Removes the intrusive message box every time you change faction armour - now only a message in the top left corner.

Crimson Caravan Invoice Bug Fix v.1.0 by Silas

Companion Weapon - Casino fix v.0.2 by Yukichigai

FollowersFridgeNoRespawn.esp by Vorph (sent via PM - thanks Vorph, you're a star)

A very simple fix that makes the Followers safehouse refrigerators not respawn.

Fixed Weights by Zenball

Bighorner and Brahmin Steak/Wellington now weigh 1.00 instead of 0.8, the same as all other steaks. Potato Crisps now weigh 0.5, Gum Drops and Bubble Gum now weigh 0.2 instead of 1.00

UPDATED: Surplus Ammo Box - Case Box - Caravan Card fix v.0.5 by Yukichigai

UPDATED: WR Object Fixes v.1.02 by WuphonsReach

REMOVED: Brotherhood of Steel Quest Fix v.1.0 by Smokindan

It seems this was causing duplicate Elder issues. Smokindan is aware of the issue and will hopefully release another patch soon.

Load order, conflicts, crashes and reporting issues

===================================================

Load the patch as high in your load order as possible using New Vegas Mod Manager or an alternative to avoid conflicts with other mods that change the same records. Commence caps for emphasis: THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM WITH CONFLICTS SO LONG AS ALL OTHER MODS ARE LOADED BENEATH THIS ONE.

If you really want to make sure that fixes are used, learn to use FNVEdit to merge (where possible) the included fixes into any records overridden by other mods. Everyone who uses mods on any recent Bethesda game should learn how to use the Edit utilities provided by ElminsterEU. It's not hard and you will see exactly where there are conflicts and be able to fix them.

Here's a useful resource for those of you who don't know what it is or how to use it:

Fallout3 Training Manual for FO3Edit v.1.1 by Miax

FNVEdit by Elminster EU

If you suffer from crashes, please be aware that Fallout New Vegas is an extremely buggy game, and not every problem you encounter is related to this patch. Many problems that arise are due to corrupted saves, which happen regardless of having this mod loaded or not. If you wish avoid corrupted saves, please do the following:

1. Turn off Auto-saves and do not use quick save. These saving methods have always been notoriously buggy in recent Bethesda games. Use only a manual save from the menu screen (a hard save).

2. When updating the mod, or if you experience issues, try a clean save. This is where you disable the mod, load the game with the mod disabled, make a new hard save, exit the game, re-enable the mod, and start the game again. This is not always necessary but is often the safest method of updating/testing should you run into issues. Once you have tested this, and still experience issues, state that you have read the entire read me and clean saved in the comments so I know that you have at least tried to solve the problem on your own.

Suggestions and Requests

========================

I'll do requests as far as I'm able - when any other tried and tested community bug fixes surface, please let me know in the comments and I'll endeavour to put them in. If I could just ask that you let a fix 'brew' for a little bit before suggesting it, either by personally testing it or by seeing that it has a good response in the mod thread, that would be helpful and help me avoid adding fixes that don't work/crash the game.

Many thanks!

Please endorse contributors!

============================

If you endorse this file PLEASE also download and endorse the files from the original authors as a sign of thanks (or at least just leave a comment saying thanks). Many thanks to the authors from me. Also, many thanks to ElminsterAU and his FNVEdit program, with which I merged the fixes together.

The future of the mod

=====================

I will not include any Pre-order DLC as everyone has a different pack so merging them would not be useful - links to any pre-order DLC fixes are provided below.

Enjoy!

And keep the suggestions coming!

WuphonsReach has requested the community help with this mod by providing screenshots of bugged objects, including object ID's. If you don't already know how, please learn how to take screenshots and to use the console to get the object ID of any bugged objects. Head over to his page to learn more.

HarlandPassive.esp by syke247

DLC related fixes and meshes still not included, see bottom of read me for links.

I don't have a problem with my file being used in this, but here is an issue I see - everyone that downloads this mod is not going in and endorsing each file being used (regardless of the wishes of the person who compiled and uploaded it). Basically, whoever uploaded this file is getting most of the credit, regardless of how much he says the users should thank the modders for their work. I doubt most people even read the descriptions at all, or anything other than installation instructions.

Again, it's not like I personally care (my file is not some grand awesome fix), but that's what's happening. His file is being endorsed, not everyone elses, and most people will assume he is the person that should be credited, even if that's not the case. Like in many things, you should always assume the person using your service needs to have their hand held or they will not do as they are told. It's likely that the person that complained felt this way on some level. Where endorsements soared sky high on this compilation, my particular file didn't, and I bet his didn't either.

Look, nexus crew, I know that "protecting the creators" is "how you roll", but here are some words from Thomas Jefferson on the subject of copyright and exclusive right, and while I respect your right to have an opinion, his, I believe are much more thought out. You guys seem like copyright protecting automatons by comparison.

"Stable ownership is the gift of social law, and is given late in the progress of society. It would be curious then, if an idea, the fugitive fermentation of an individual brain, could, of natural right, be claimed in exclusive and stable property. If nature has made any one thing less susceptible than all others of exclusive property, it is the action of the thinking power called an idea, which an individual may exclusively possess as long as he keeps it to himself; but the moment it is divulged, it forces itself into the possession of every one, and the receiver cannot dispossess himself of it. Its peculiar character, too, is that no one possesses the less, because every other possesses the whole of it. He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by nature, when she made them, like fire, expansible over all space, without lessening their density in any point, and like the air in which we breathe, move, and have our physical being, incapable of confinement or exclusive appropriation. Inventions then cannot, in nature, be a subject of property."

...

Considering the exclusive right to invention as given not of natural right, but for the benefit of society, I know well the difficulty of drawing a line between the things which are worth to the public the embarrassment of an exclusive patent, and those which are not. As a member of the patent board for several years, while the law authorized a board to grant or refuse patents, I saw with what slow progress a system of general rules could be matured.

Bolded that last part for you. Gee sound familiar?

Yeah I know you guys are successful, biggest Fallout mod site yadda yadda yadda, I am really posting this for the benefit of the community.

Yeah I know you guys are successful, biggest Fallout mod site yadda yadda yadda, I am really posting this for the benefit of the community.

no need to thank the people that did the work or even acknowledge that they even did anything right?

all that matters is that the "members of the community" you just gets what the **** they you wants when **** they you want it i guess.

i struck out "members of the community", simply because for the most part, they actually understand and appreciated the work us modders do

i really dont think you understand what the hell he was talking about.

How dare you lump us modders that provide original content FREELY for the benefit of the community in with those who would simply hoard creations for the sole purpose of monetary gain.

you have no ****ing idea what you are accusing us of by quoting Jefferson.. calling us greedy and selfish simply because we ask for credit for our work. your ideals on the matter are a ****ing joke.

seriously is it so ****ing hard to wait a day or so for the issue to be resolved?
