I have to say that this has been coming for years and I'm surprised that its not happened sooner. There is no doubt in my mind that the free and easy exchange of ideas and work will cease very quickly now that the big boys have woken up to the fact that people are benefiting each other without exchanging cash. They will monetise their IP and we will be the poorer for it. My guess is that Skyrim was the last game that enabled such a community feeling. Another little light has gone out or should that be #anotherlittlelighthasgoneout for shame.

How is support for mods going to work? What I if a mod is not compatible with another mod or something does work at all? How will refunds be handled. Does Valve handle it 100%? The Mod author? NO REFUNDS? There is no mention of the word refund in the whole FAQ.

This is not going to end well at all, and seems like it wasn't the LEAST BIT thought out.

Better Combat AI is being reviewed as a paid mod. But check this out...the mod author (Joop) is making two versions. Both will be exactly the same, and update the same as well but one will be a paid mod (strictly for donations) and the other will be free! See...there is still faith in the modding community! That is an awesome idea!

Here is where the free mod is at.... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=160829215

Man, if only there was a site where this already happened, and on TOP of that, the mod author didn't have to give up 75% of the donation to Valve?

What I really don't like is that a Modder will now only release it on Steam and I have to use that piece of crap 'subscriber' download system. I also wonder if this is an unfair monopoly (I can only get certain mods at Steam now)

This^

This something I, and some other players will be happy to support. Getting steam cash as payment is great, steam is safe, and this way not pay to play.

This is a good way to mange this while it lasts for the good of all.

Totally not paying for beta mods duo.

This is not the end of mods, the end of mods is when nexus does this.

Chesko has released an open letter to the skyrim community talking about the most recent controversy:

Here's a post from him as well: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/581559-frostfall-hypothermia-camping-survival/page-1410&do=findComment&comment=24561944

Also in the post made by Dark0ne: trainwiz, elianora and other modders have stated that thier mods will stay free.

Whatever happens now, it is important to remember to stay calm and rational. Before we start condemning mod creators we should wait and see their responses. Has anyone heard what the skyui, skse or arthmoors say about this?

is the idea of the mod is protected by any law? I mean I like -for example- a fishing mods but I might MAKE my own one instead of paying for one that I might not even like it's scripts and rules. -and yes I make mods and I know how hard it is. and no, after fallout I didn't upload any of it anywhere captain-
also, I'm not against good mod makers making money.

also listening to this calms me right now: (from bethesda with love)

The ship has sunk if they support the idea, but it would be interesting to hear their take on the whole fiasco.
