This.

It will be a cold day in Hell before I pay a monthly subscription for the privilege of serving as quality control for mods of varying quality and value that may or may not even work.

The complete and utter lack of common sense among proponents of amateur mod monetization is frightening.

Just curious, how many modders BOUGHT The Creation Kit from Bethesda, and also BOUGHT and/or DONATED and/or ENDORSED and/or THANKED the creators of NIFSKOPE, GIMP, BLENDER, AUDACITY, GMAX et al, while expecting to be paid for your mods?

yes you are correct
I make no attempt to hide that fact...what's your point?

Clearly you haven't actually read any of my posts here, this isn't about making free mods paid. This is about giving authors the option to make paid mods.
I never paid for a mod, does this mean I never would?
I would gladly pay for any mod I wanted, unlike some people, I understand the concept.
If something is available....and I want it....I'm fine with paying for it.

you ever listen to the radio......does that mean you'd never buy a cd/mp3?

And lastly....read the post from steam again.....I said I never paid the nexus a dime for membership.

But hey who needs facts ? That sounded badass when you stomped in here!

Sorry dude your just simply wrong. Here's why.

Remember the Tech Bubble Crash of the 1990's , in that it was assumed that the amount of traffic sites were getting was representative of value upon which stock securities were being issued but when it came to cash in they came to realize that this traffic represented nothing more than people simply window shopping and that the real number that represented its true value was 90% and in some cases 99% lower and the stock market crashed as a result once this became known. Point is unique downloads is a misleading number , endorsements are a truer number though it no doubt is still smaller than the amount of people who do use those mods. Also its not just a matter of people being ungrateful , there would be people who didn't like them and even more so people (I believe) a large number of people who just get bewildered by the work and knowledge you have to have just to be able install any amount of mods of any substantial number.

How many times have we heard "can someone help me" . Pinning it all on ungrateful people is simply wrong , its much more complex than that . And you should know that cause your one of the better modders.

To be honest I saw most of the hate being directed at Valve and Bethesda. I saw most of the mods title "Pay me for doing nothing" as an attack on Valve for taking a 35% cut for hosting only.

I will give you a very good reason why I won't be and will strongly and loudly discourage others from paying a monthly subscription to getting mods. Because when you pay to play a game with a monthly subscription the game developer is obligated to continue providing updates, patches and so forth to their game. Now (and this is actually a big factor in my paid vs free considerations as well) mod authors are under no such obligation. In my opinion if you are charging money for your mod then you are now providing a service and as such should be subjected to upholding certain obligations. How many mods have been made that started good but then get abandoned because the author loses interests, their PC has issues, Real Life starts kicking their A$$, etc.?

Just what protects the mod users from this? We pay for something we don’t necessarily receive, quality. And for older games like Skyirm that isn’t such a big deal because no new patches will be coming out but with a game like Fallout 4 they will be patching and modding right alongside each other. How many mods get broken by patches? Who will enforce that these mod authors have to fix the broken mods you’ve paid for? It is expected that if Bethesda released a DLC and then a patch that broke the DLC that they would immediately get to fixing that DLC. Mod authors have no such obligation.

And for a measly 25% maybe they shouldn’t have such an obligation. I agree with macintroll suggests and use ads to pay for things and have a donation button so that people can reward those who are truly amazing. And for those who just hate ads go the way of YouTube and Premium Nexus and TSR and pay a subscription to remove the frigging ads.

I don't understand why there was such a big deal...

Modders put lots of time, hard work, and effort into their mods and if they want to be paid then that's upto them. There will always be modders who will release free content.

EDIT: Really happy that Steam and Bethesda actually acknowledged us and our problems... unlike EA.
