"CHAPTER IV - Trolling

Trolling is...

Deliberately attempting to goad people into a "flame war" (or, simply put, a "female dog fest") by posting disparaging remarks or comments that you know will incite a negative or nasty response."

Female dogs are generally much less aggressive than males.

It's also a cleverly disguised vulgar, if slang, insult.

Yeah... The female dog remark is essentially trolling.

You immensely intelligent moderators have managed to troll within your very definition of what trolling is.

Good job.

It never dawned on me to inspect the credibility of said moderators until my fiancée was banned instantly for swearing in ONE post. No previous "strikes" as they were, just banned -- instantly. It's also amazing that the moderators failed to keep EarAche42 as part of the community.

I think (an opinion - are those allowed on the Nexus?) most of the moderators are just jealous because they don't get any attention. Maybe if they actually produced some mods. Maybe then they wouldn't have to act so "female dog"-like, right? Going to ban me for that?

Well, I have produced a few Oblivion mods...does that make me "credible" in your opinion? As Dark0ne has said on many occasions, the (un-paid) moderators here are invited to help Dark0ne to keep these sites running smoothly and are allowed to carry out their duties without harassment. So I say goodbye to you AND your fiancée whoever s/he is.

Just so everyone is clear on this, I'm the one on the staff that cares the least for vulgar language being used on this forum so all those people that cannot communicate without cussing can thank me for the crack-down...which was quite some time AFTER switch had been a moderator. I think he had actually resigned before I joined up and it was ME who edited his post and changed that word...which I had also added to the "bad word" filter to automatically replace that word with that phrase. :ninja: With the latest 4 or so moderators added to the team, their suggestions helped reduce my overzealous usage of the bad word filter. But regardless of the filter, vulgar language will not be tolerated. This is a public forum with a public chat system which can be viewed by youngsters so as long as I am here, it won't be tolerated. We can, and will communicate on these forums without degrading to that level. Understood?

That is very humorous, Mr. Hammonds. Upon making a new account (requires any e-mail address - that's it), any child old enough to use a computer is no more than 6 clicks away from hardcore pornographic images. I just counted. This does not concern you in the least? Swearing is bad for the youngsters. I definitely agree. However, hardcore pornography (such as that present in Animated Prostitution) is a bit more potentially damaging -- wouldn't you say? I find it absolutely hilarious when an individual will vehemently cover a child's ears from "naughty words" yet completely neglect to cover said child's eyes when dismemberment, intense gore, pornography, and even rape are presented.

You seem to be acting so arrogantly in your above statements. Do you realize how much this site means to the modders and people that use their mods? It's not all about you and the moderators. I sincerely inquire if you and your people moderate because you love the games and the community, or if you do it because it makes you feel powerful and important? What say you to this? I am not attempting to harass you in any way. I appreciate the fact that this site is publicly available and that anyone whom contributes works for free. I salute all contributors and offer my humble respect.

In closing, I would like to suggest that -- rather than instantly banning someone that may be completely new to forum use in general -- why not make use of the lovely PM feature and perhaps give a firm warning? Why not act on a level fitting of the civilized human that you present yourself as and use diplomacy, empathy, and perhaps a bit of patience. I mean, I just witnessed you rambling on and on about your crusade against dirty words on public forums -- and it is commendable -- but again, you do this while at the same time making hardcore pornographic material readily available to minors.

How does one contact the owner of this site?

Thank you and God bless.

Update: I just learned that EarAche42 did NOT remove the xCALIBR Impulse Purchase DLC. One of you (the moderators) did. Could you explain to me why this was done? Oh wait, was it because the comment section had gotten out of control with flames and trolls flinging them? Like Naggert? I noticed that Naggert, the one that started it all by attacking one of the most amazing modders in existence, DID NOT GET BANNED. You so kindly presented your definition of a troll and Naggert fit it to a T. So did all of the people blaming EarAche42 for standing up for himself. His feelings were hurt! He worked insanely hard on that mod! I mean, play it! It's epic -- and it WAS just the beginning! But yeah... I was the only person that got banned from the thread that was so bad you had to remove the entire thing. Just me. Good job.

@myrmaad: Is there any way we could dig up the entire thread relating to the xCALIBR Impulse Purchase DLC? It seems the entire thing has been removed completely. Perhaps the text of the file comment area was preserved. I'd just like to review with the owner of the site why only one person on that thread was banned. I believe the post immediately after the one in question made several sexist remarks and threatened real world physical violence on the mod maker that had removed his mod. Is it to be understood that if a mod maker removes a mod, it is acceptable for one to directly threaten them? Oh wait. You guys are just responding to a filter that is setting off flags when "curse words" are typed. LOL! I saw you guys ban someone for the use of the word "pen#s". You let little kids look at hardcore porn, yet you ban someone for typing pen&s. Outstanding.

I'm not going to use the quote button to duplicate half a page of posts here...

Personally I don't think it is the sole responsibility of this family of sites to keep children from seeing material that is adult-oriented, and yet they do a good job of keeping such materials tagged so that one has to be a registered member with that filter disabled in order to see them.

The true responsibility lies with the last couple of generations of parents who have resorted to using televisions and computers as babysitters rather than parenting their children themselves. If one does not want one's child searching for porn and graphic violence on the internet, one should take an active interest in monitoring what one's children do with their computer. Shirking that responsibility can't be blamed on the Nexus sites.

There's no reason as to why I should bother doing this... This mod, from what I can tell from the reports was deleted from the server because the mod page had no upload. The open and mindless hostility in the thread was probably a factor as to why this was not merely hidden.

Among those posts reported there is this one:

First off, to EVERYONE OTHER THAN EARACHE42, BOO-the f***-HOO.

He made the mod. He can remove it. You SHOULD be mad at the little clownshoe that pissed Ear Ache off in the first place. I demand a new release with all vanilla ghouls re-skinned as the aforementioned ungrateful tard and named "Feral Naggert", "Glowing Troll", "Irradiated Dipshit", etc.

Seriously. You don't already have this mod? Too bad! You aren't that hardcore of a nexus nut then, are you? You snooze you lose? Maybe if just some of these supposed thousands of adoring Ear Ache fans had put the little troll in it's place... Maybe then 42 wouldn't feel the need to do it himself.

Anyways... Thanks for the sick-ass guns, man. You're a legend.

Naggert... It's name is f***ing NAGGERT, people. Would TROLLGERT be more or less noticeable?

Now, I know that looks familiar... please explain to me how this is a constructive comment, let alone anything which would belong in this or any community?

And then there is this gem:

I think I'm going to go troll the Animated Prostitution thread. Maybe get that dude to remove his mod.

Some of you would kill yourselves.

So basically, you're saying that rather than report people who are causing this sort of drama, you think it's better to create even more for others who are likely not even involved. In what world do you think this behavior is befitting someone who deserves to be treated like a civilized person?

As for the reason why only you were banned. Well, aside from the obvious behavior which well deserves the ban, your posts were pretty much the only thing reported in that entire thread in atleast the last week. If this Naggert person were reported for his comments instead of being flamed, he would have likely been banned. If any of the other hostile participants in that thread had been reported, they would likely be gone too. If there was a failure here, it was because nothing was reported until it had already gone well out of hand. Staff can hardly be expected to monitor each of the several thousand threads on this site for every petty argument.

As for the file page. To put it simply, it was deleted because the upload associated with that file page was removed by the author and hiding the file in question wouldn't hide the related comment thread. Given the state of the thread (as you report) you can hardly expect it to remain as it was. There are a number of suggestions as to why this occurred, but since I am not the author and am not connected with this case, I can hardly speculate from what evidence remains. That said, harassing the author probably isn't a good idea.

As for giving out warnings... We give out plenty of those who are first time offenders and who aren't specifically trying to create problems. You received no warning because those reported comments were deemed hostile enough and your words suggested that trolling was really all you were planning to do. Your actions here support this assessment. As your account was created back in 04, there is no excuse for you not being atleast somewhat familiar with the rules of this site, and if you weren't you certainly could have probably asked somewhere in the space of those 6 years. Heck knows our policy towards most of this stuff hasn't changed much in the last 4.

@Herculine: Reading comprehension is fun. I wish you had at least slightly attempted to understand where I am coming from. I comprehended everything you just spouted and agree that parenting has definitely gone down the tubes in a lot of cases. I won't generalize, though. There are still MANY good parents in the world. The population has grown almost exponentially. With that many more people, of course there are going to be more bad parents.

My point was that a child can, will, and has had access to those images and it was not made difficult for them. A 13-year-old boy that is capable of registering on the Nexus and navigating to the site is just as capable of viewing the indecent material. I was simply pointing out the hypocritical nature of viciously attacking "naughty words" yet completely allowing hardcore porn.

I mean, you can type whatever you want in order to further brown-nose the admins. That is my interpretation of your need to comment at all. Sorry if that leaves you sore.

You're great, though. Your design skills are highly commendable. Thank you for your awesome mod contributions. I just don't feel you've added anything relevant. I won't quote you either. I forget sometimes that people still use 3-digit resolutions.

1). My level of reading comprehension has apparently been sufficient to get me by thus far.

2.) I have no desire to "brown-nose" the moderators. I merely intended to point out that blaming all the evils of the internet on the Nexus sites makes no sense. The same children can access porn on a thousand other sites on the internet without having to even provide an e-mail address. What are we doing about that?

All right, I told myself I wasn't going to get in on this, but I just can't help myself.

You were banned because you were vulgar, rude, and accusing another member of being a troll. What is one supposed to do when they encounter a troll? They report them! Genius!

Funny thing is, Naggert wasn't a troll. From what I read, he gave legitimate constructive criticism regarding the statistics of some of the weapons, and people got upset. Probably just because Earache42 removed his mod, and they wanted it to come back. He wasn't a troll, you were. And you weren't banned because of a profound word filter, you were banned because someone reported you.

Could they have given you a strike? Sure! But there's almost two million people on this site, and nine moderators. And they get an awful lot of reports a day, so it's no surprise it's often easier to take the "strike first ask questions later" approach.

Of course, the smart thing you could have done is contact the moderator that enacted the ban, apologize and kindly ask to be let back in. Instead, you've come here, whined, thrown false accusations at the moderators, and attempted to create a crusade where there is none. Good work.

EDIT: Seems the problem has been purged in the meantime. Good to know.

I agree with about 90 percent of the above post but I have doubts about the above two sentences.

It is the author's prerogative to determine the statistics of those weapons. Giving them the benefit of doubt, I always assume that the author knows what he or she is doing, and the mod works properly on the system that was used to create it, and it was created to achieve a specific goal. I only consider complaints about weapon damage, DPS, etc constructive if the weapon is underpowered and ineffective, and it is not compensated by an over-abundance of ammo or it is not part of a plot to force the user to start e.g. a quest for weapon mod kits that will 'awesomify' the weapon, and even then a single comment would suffice. I also like reading educational comments from weapon, car, lore buffs, etc when they do it in a "it may be interesting for you to know..." manner and not in a condescending, "here, let me help you out with a few morsels of knowledge, because it is obvious that you are treading in an area of which you have no clue" manner. But if the author ignores the comments... well, had the complainer spent the time delving a bit into the use of GECK instead of being a persistent pain in the neck with his comments, he could have fixed the mod himself (in this case it is irrelevant because the mod has not even been released). That's what I always do: I did not like the fact that in Anthony Ling's Pretty Things Moira Brown wears a jumpsuit that is unzipped to reveal almost everything from neck down to her private parts so instead of complaining to the author about "this mockery of female dignity" (no, actually, I though it was funny but out of place), I simply launched GECK and replaced her skimpy jumpsuit with a decent one in my copy of the mod. Problem solved.

I would say that 100+ is some mods produced. More than you ever did. :P
