No need to dismiss his input simply because you disagree with his modus operandi. It's unbecoming.

Whether or not he is "right,"(A term I used loosely in topics like this) is irrelevant. This is all speculation about a largely unlikely outcome of events not even in motion. Everyone is entitled their own opinion, and none is more correct than another.

I also wear a mirror.

@Spartan

The latter.

@The question presented at me.

Distance from anything worth nuking. Level headedness. And in the case of just me living in a country of people not prone to panic and kill each other. Have you seen the chaos on Black Friday alone? You Americans are screwed! :P

I'm not even American, I live in the Breacon Beacons in a VERY mountainous region full of reservoirs In a small country of no significance with only a hand-full of cities all of which are very small - even our capital which doesn't even have an airport in the same county. We are Welsh and we were here before the English were invaded the first time. I am a level headed engineer with military training, I am REME, who are you?

One very well COULD prepare and put away the things needed right now. Sure, bunkers would be nice, or fallout shelters, but once the blasts have happened and radiation subsided some, you could likely, wearing a suit and gas mask, come out and make your way to a safer (non radiated) area. Once you live through blasts and or fallout, you'll need those supplies to live on, supplemented with that which you catch or kill or pick.

However, the much more likely scenario would be high altitude nukes, wiping out our power and commo grid.

That comeback was just weak, a mirror would only work if it were refering to your looks and appearance, not your behaviour and how you talk down to people you dont even know rather than pointing out any would be logical points.

Phunky has a point about the likely use of nukes, not so much for destruction as for interdiction as he said above. Wed likely see mass troop movements following those initial strikes.

You used the word Bunker. And Airbase. And Water Purifier. The first 2 would be optimal targets for said nukes as for water Fallout was very inaccurate on the equation (Water + Nuclear Bombs) + Human like organisms = ?

Water exposed the effects of nuclear bombs becomes very deadly. This does not include the radiation from fallout its a radiation only present in the initial blast. I dont remember the exact thing that causes it could be gamma blast could have been something else but regardless. Even though the water may or may not contain transmittable and harmful radioactive isotopes it still kills you.

Now how it kills you is at the time that a learned this several years ago is not fully understood(though I highly doubt they have gotten any farther in figuring this out completely). It has to due with one of waters many many unique attributes this specific one being its ability to absorb and store energy. When a cell is exposed to radiation and is damaged it (usually) kills itself to prevent the damaged DNA from doing more damage to the body. I dont actually remember what this process is called atm but when this water reaches your brain and starts getting used in the many uses of water in biology it makes the whole body due what that cell does on a different level. Basically both your mind and body loses the will to live.

Thankfully since what causes this is the energized stat the water is in all you need to do is "reset" the water either by freezing it solid then melting it or turning it in steam then condensing it back into water. The latter is a better option in a post-apocalyptic world since you dont have electricity for the most part after the EMP hit. Without this bit of information even if you had a water purifier the water would still kill you.

Hows that come back minngarm?

EDIT: Following up on that. Nukes will never be used as an EMP weapon. They will only ever be used as a weapon of destruction as no matter what you cannot avoid the self inflicted damage with modern day high yield nuclear weapons or even the same model of nuke used during world war 2(Trivia they are still racking up kills to this day). And also all your troops would die from "nuke water" and fallout(arguable though due to lack of REAL tests with nuclear weapons...)

I'll agree to that.

I was quite disturbed by the idea that people think it's necessarily to kill each other to survive in post-apocalyptia instead of unifying in the face of extinction.

I'm also quite amused by the fact that many inwardly think they would be better off in such a world as "Heroes Of The Wastes," when, barring porn withdrawal coming first, most would drop dead by getting *censored* slapped by a giant Ant.
