Latvian IP-range is banned or not?

The real point is being missed, The ISP is expected to have activity logs and be able to deny access for the user(s) initiating the attacks. There is no need to seize anybody indeed (although possible). It could block too much traffic coming from several different machines toward a single address (a clear sign of DDoS attack)... actually there are many ways to deal with the problem which don't involve police, trials, arrests and so on.

Well, nexusmodacc asked politely, Enyap asked politely, NINJ4R4BBID did. I invite someone to stab your whole family in sleep and then expect three polite replies from you.

Or do you think it's a kind of my hobby to harrass site admins and other people willing to stop by for the sake of it? I'll admit I'm good at it, though.

I'm only repeating, too - we do not know that bad ISP, the whole goddamn country is blocked. There's a whole tree that has been cut and we're just a bunch of leaves.

Can I possibly go and ask my ISP (LVDats) to ask their ISP (Baltkom) to see if their ISP (LatNet) has received an abuse notification from Nexus hell knows who, hell knows when and what their response was? If I was asked such a question I think I'm legally allowed to stab the asking person in the eye...

P.S. What did just happened to the forums? Before the hidden cynics in some of you begin to assume anything, I assure you crossing my heart, it wasn't us, damn Latvians on a site killing spree again. :ermm:

Oh sure, let's inflate this into a completely ridiculous argument. Equating the loss of access to a website with the MURDER of someone's family. Nice one.

Trust me when I tell you this. If someone did manage to sneak into my home and stab my whole family while they slept, and I was somehow spared this and caught them in the act, posting about it on a forum would be the last thing on my mind. Making sure I could get at my gun would be the first thing, second thing being to make sure the attackers didn't make it out alive.

So if you're seriously suggesting your reaction to this incident should be on the same scale, why are you surprised when cynics start to question your motives?

Also, the fact that you're here arguing about it to begin with says a lot. You still have access. Your ISP hasn't harmed your ability to get here in the slightest. So really, what's the actual problem again?

Arthmoor, will you please get the hell out of this topic? If you can educate your awfully big mouth about the disadvantages of onion routers and simple proxies then you'll quickly learn how my current ways is far from normal access. And there are more users unaware of... oh, just get the hell out, you don't care, obviously.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for that name of the bad ISP.

Meanwhile, I'll have this theory:

No single Latvian ISP was contacted in the first place. A country-wide ban has been issued right away. No information has been sent to users involved.

This thread is clearly becoming a flame bait. Do you think this problem with Latvia IP range is unique in the Internet world?

Some IRC networks banned not only one country as did ban the entire Latin America from their main servers. You'll not see me crying or screaming at them because I understand their motives and reasons. We called this on ourselves, not me as individual, not many other individuals I know, for sure... but since we are not helping to straight our own social behavior, we need to understand why they don't want us there.

Opening that IP range is calling for distributed attack from some kid in your country, this kind of attack is hard to stop on the target otherwise, it need to be stopped on the origin. It's just stupid to claim about free speech, there is no speech actually, only the attempt to overload the targeted server so NO ONE from anywhere can access it, not even to exercise the "free speech". This kid (or a few of them) is using YOUR machine to help attacking the site, if you can't do anything about this you are part of the problem.

This thread already accomplished its function, all which could be tell was told already. Only flames will come from it.

The Nexus can't open the IP range without risking losing contact with the entire world... so there is nothing more to be done from it's side... is time for the affected side do something by and for itself.

PS: Arhmoor is just right. All Latvian users who politely asked for access and can do something to restrict his/her own IP range to a unique IP or reasonably restricted range got this access granted.

Can those clueless people who do not appear to have the administration privileges of Nexus sites just stop their we-know-it-all verbal diarrhea and get the hell out of this topic?

I'm just waiting for that name of that bad ISP.

Anyone who's been here a while or knows me at all knows that when people start making demands of me I ignore them. Put plainly. I. Owe. You. Nothing. So when people treat me as though I'm here at their beckoning call I simply ignore them.

This is obviously directed at damncrow, and not at the others who have PM'd me their IP addresses, which I will get around to unblocking when I have the time.

Do some people here just think I'm at my PC 24/7, sitting on my hands waiting to do things for others?

  • A polite support request was sent by me using the contact form on the site a loong time ago before this whole kaboodle started. I didn't receive any response.
  • A polite PM was sent by me on July 18th before this whole thread derailed. It was read some hours later and has not received any response.

I have been polite. I have been completely ignored. Your arrogance blinds you, Master Yoda.

With this, I have received the final indirect confirmation that the insignificant amount of users from Latvia, likely to be non-premium, I might add, are clearly expendable indeed.

I truly hope that you will hold onto your word and the other guys will get their respective IPs unbanned sometime in the next decade. For me, I could care less now; I'm signing off for good.

I also hope that your arrogance will bite you in the arse. Have a nice day.

You have quite a funny idea of being polite...

I've also asked politely in a PM if block could be lifted for my IP exclusively. It has been read. It has not been answered. The block persists. I conclude that the answer is NO in a form of a middle finger up.

And how long did you wait before complaining after that? Hard to believe, I know, but some people have real lives that they must also attend to. Not to mention everything else they have to do on this site (I seriously doubt that your mail was the only one in their inbox)

I also hope that your arrogance will bite you in the arse. Have a nice day.

Reading your previous comments, I think that's what just happened to you...

I kinda sent a mail to support a few weeks ago, but if pm is required might as well send it. I would much appreciate if you could unban my IP when you get around to it.

But I still would really like to know the name of ISP involved if its possible please
