Imperial Legion mod

To cyronarxes, well put, but even just the plot would be an excellent resource. Especially seeing as I have no clue how imperial quests would go, mainly because i spend my time on the other side of the law in RPG's.

The best way to know the Legion is to be the Legion. Buy Morrowind; join the Legion!

I'm trying to get things started, if you would all please see my last, what, three posts? I want to find Meshers and people who can handle textures, coders, FX gurus and things of that nature. My main requirement here is to find an advisor; someone who can explain, decently (and in terms a non-moder will understand) what is required here and what we need. Now, if one of you gentlemen who are screaming and chanting for us to stop the arguing can do this, might I ask if you have Yahoo! Instant Messenger so I can learn more how to get this rolling? Because if we can just get it started, I have a good feeling it's going to snowball into a project that we'll all find both fun and highly rewarding in the end.

Like I said here...my main goal is to give back to the community I've taken so much from by atleast helping with a mod that I know for a fact I at the very least would love. And seeing as how you've all decided to grace this thread with your presence and posts, you too must all think it a good idea! If you would all be so kind as to help, point us to someone who can help, or leave so we can get focused on this, I'd be very thankful.

And like I said, I've tried learning this before; I wanted to do it for myself. I have literally /zero/ tollerance for this kind of thing. I've got //NO// patience for it. I force myself to sit through it, I installed the Construction Set and accomplished nothing but the desire to rip my own hair out. What I want to do is make the plotline for the quests; I want to think up the outlines, the storyline and the groundwork while a team of people works on the mod itself. I'm sure I'm breaking some modder moral code or I'm being illogical or something, or even greedy, but this is the best (and only) way to accomplish it. I seriously cannot mod. Been there, tried that, couldn't do it. I couldn't even take the Battle for Middle Earth Worldbuilder.

But you know what? For the purpose of not being further flamed and attempting to give what I can, HOW I can, I'm going to give it another shot...hell, who knows? I might be on the top 100 one day...ha...ha! Ha! Ha! Yeah, I laughed at my own joke.

As of 6:23 Am EST, I have created my first mod. o.o I added three plates to the bar and moved a beer mug across a table in the inn at Wawnett Inn...hey, further than I got last time.

I'v gone through the legion several times but I always get myself thrown out before I can do more then a couple quests. Stupid "no theivery" policy....

It's a start. Just keep working on it and learn more about how to do stuff. Here's a site from which you can learn a lot about the construction set: Oblivion Modding Wiki

Now that I've gone through this entire thread, I think I should have simply deleted every post that had nothing to do with helping the OP. This would be a short thread.

Note to the OP, please do not reply to trolling or drive-by-flaming. You only end up dragging yourself down into the mud. Simply copy the link to the offending comment and send it to a moderator (as was done to me by someone that was just viewing the site and didn't respond on this thread).

Since I took the time to do the reading, here is my advice to the OP: Build it and they will come.

Go ahead and write up the characters, their backgrounds, stories, events/missions. Get the idea down on paper since you said that is all you will be able to do. Might as well get that done and posted. Then post a link to your "completed" storyline in the various forums out there to attract modders. Post in places such as the official Bethesda Mod forums, SHS, Canadian Ice, etc.

Modders have much more respect for people that have done the work rather than just talked about it. But respect isn't necessarily going to attract them...a good and completed storyline will. Jerros got me snagged on helping him build the Lost Paladins of the Divines mod because 1) he is an awesome artist that had put effort into his mod to a point that the equipment was completed but didn't know how to use the Construction Set and 2) his storyline was compelling...so much so that we had to create at least 3 more armor sets just because of the awesome story that has yet to be told (publicly)!

I can handle the storylines. Over the next few days (as I'm trying to get the hang of lesser-modding...it's not easy and already I'm getting tired of it, but I'm trying to hang on...) I'll be plotting out the storyline. I need someone I can consult with though. Someone I can run ideas by, who is also somewhat skilled in plot development. Brainstorming is my strong suit, but unless I have someone/a group of people to really think with, then it's going to do me no good. I might like an idea that everyone else totally hates.

Thus far, I'm thinking it might just be...mainly, the first few quests would be something like the Fighters Guild. The Imperial Legion is requested to do a few nice things around Cyrodiil for people. Like rid a goblin infestation from a farm, perhaps break a siege on a castle or battle some rouge Minotaur/Daedra in an area to make the place suitable for human habitation. Perhaps be contracted to guard someone from an assassination attempt. But as you go on through the quests, perhaps...maybe there might be the problem of corruption in a higher-ranked Captain or even the Knight of the Imperial Dragon of Cyrodiil. And in order to bring these charges against him, you'd have to work your way up through the ranks to gain access to a position of power. Otherwise, all of the Imperial Legion is going to have its name and honor tarnished by this powerhungry person who might even be an agent for the Dark Brotherhood or the Thieves Guild, maybe? Another idea I just had is maybe a time-sensitive patrol position. Maybe, as a lesser-ranked Legion member, you have to go out and patrol the roads around the Imperial City for four hours or so; when you've finished the patrol after that time, or killed a certain number of NPC bandits/maruaders/wild creatures, you can go back and get a rank up (IF you've killed enough), or gold. An easy way to make money. Of course, the number of wild animals/NPCs around the road would have to be upped some. Vampires and Necromancers would give a huge bonus, maybe, since they're the enemies to everyone in Cyrodiil. Again, let me know what you all think of this; constructive criticism is appriecated.

This is a VERY QUICK DRAFT. I thought this up in about twenty or thirty seconds. I'd polish all of it up ALOT, think up character attitudes, make alliances and enemies in the Legion...betrayal, all that good stuff. Everything you'd find in a Romanesque faction.

And Dnuken, we'd be glad to have you. If you couldn't help for some reason, we could certainly use you as an advisor; we need everyone we can get.

My only goal in this is to give BACK to Tesnexus. I've taken alot, I've used the mods, and now I want the people whos mods I'VE used to use this mod and think 'Wow. This is really good.' I want to know that something I've had a hand in brought someone atleast an hour or two of fun, and that perhaps they'll recommend it to a friend of theirs and so on and so forth. This is what I've been looking for for ages; I loved the Imperial Legion in Morrowind, I thought it was the coolest thing. I've always been a junkie for the Roman-type stuff. That, and Japanese weaponry/buildings/thinking. Bushido is something I believe in and follow in my everyday life. But the Legion just had something cool about it...I'm not sure what it was. My hopes are that others miss it in this game also and want to see it back, too.

The idea above is, like I said, a very rough, basic outline of what could grow into a strong storyline. It can be rejected, changed, altered, completely demolished without any hurt done to my ego or the mod; it's a snap-of-the-fingers idea. I've got a bunch more.

Ideas for buildings:

Well, this could mainly be done in two ways. Number one, and my personal favorite, is to create a series of Imperial Legion castles all throughout the land in empty spaces; maybe remove some things if it is required. Forts that serve no purpose, campsites that are useless, things of that nature. Or even create an island. Remember in Morrowind, how you had Fort Firemoth and Fort Frostmoth, Moonmoth and Buckmoth...not saying that they should or must go by those names; that, of course, would be decided a bit later. First, we should concentrate on getting it made.

My second idea is for one large headquarters; probably placed in White Gold Tower. From there you would access quests, find trainers and merchants, and most importantly, NPCs from which you would gain your quests. The NPCs, for the most part, would be named by rank. Recruit, Spearman, Trooper, Agent, Champion...so on and so forth. A complete list of the ranks will come later (of course, this would all have to be added into the tower. Another idea would be to put a side building, a smaller one, near the White Gold Tower. Either that, or in the Prision District. As I said, I favor the Forts.)

Ideas for NPCs:

As they are in the Legion, the armor they wear would be based on rank. If it was desired, we could go in and craft new Legion armor based off of what was in Morrowind, but that would be time consuming and would add MORE work to an already heavy workload. Basically, the way I see it, we WOULD have to add one more suit of armor. Perhaps chainmail, or leather for the lower-ranked members. Recruits, up to Trooper, would wear the leather or the chainmail. Once they hit Agent, they would progress to the Imperial legion Platemail, up to Knight Bachelor. Once the player made Knight Bachelor, they would then don the armor of the Palace Guard. That would be used until Knight of the Imperial Dragon or Captain, and from there perhaps the character would be awarded with an upgraded, refurbished suit of Palace Guard armor. This is all assuming that we use the ranking system that I've mentioned. Of course, the NPCs wouldn't rank with the character; that would make it even harder to do. This would all be for the character; the NPCs would already be pre-ranked. The upper-level Legion members (Knight Bachelor and above) would go by their names, not the title of their ranks.

Ideas for quests:

I've labled my main idea out in the forum pretty much. It would begin with perhaps helping some people out with stolen goods, discovering a thief or two. Then, progressing some, the player would be tasked with clearing a Mine or two of Goblin or Bandit infestations to make it safe to work in again, because the profits from that area had been dropping. From there, the character would begin to make a name for his/herself. Of course, if this was all done with the Fort idea, then the character would be sent back and forth to recieve his/her quests; three or four would be given at each Fort, with a total of what, four forts? Five? The tasks once they reach the final fort would be tough; uncovering corruption and dishonor in the Imperial Legion. People who had spoken out against one of the commanding officers (within the top three ranks) of the Imperial Legion had disappeared; accusations of rape, torture, looting and murder had been silenced when the person accusing the commanding officer disappeared without another word. The player would be tasked with uncovering the truth, and thus unravling the threads of deciet and lies that had been woven around a very powerful person in the Legion. When the player reviels this deciet and reaches Captain/Knight of the Imperial Dragon, they would be given their own suit of armor (MAYBE, just MAYBE it could be the Lords Mail and Chrysamere, used by the previous Knight of the Imperial Dragon and honored Nerevarine in Morrowind?) and a fort would be built for them high in the Colovian Highlands; from there, the player would be tasked monthly, or perhaps weekly, with either recruiting new members into the Legion, or setting high numbers of Patrols to clear the lands around the Forts from monsters and bandits (and recieving the armor and weapons, or hides/pelts they drop in chests within the Forts). The Fort, naturally, would take some time to be built in game. Time lapsed creation, two or three weeks; I am sure this would be very hard to include in a mod, but for the purpose of realism, it should be done that way. More would be done with this as time goes on, and I would be glad to elabourate on any part of it if asked.

Ideas for ranks:

The Ranks for the Imperial Legion, as seen in Morrowind, are here.

Recruit, Spearman, Trooper, Agent, Champion, Knight Errant, Knight Bachelor, Knight Protector, Knight of the Garland and, finally, Knight of the Imperial Dragon.

Basically, one or two promotions from EACH FORT, which would total five. The player would reach the final fort at Knight Protector, and from there would take orders directly from the Knight of the Imperial Dragon. But maybe his second in command requests you to take side-trips to look at certain things he's been hinted on...~Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink~ If the ranking system wouldn't work, it could also be changed but this would be how I would prefer it. More stable, much closer to the Morrowind Legion everyone loved so much.

DAMN YOU FOR NOT PUTTING THE LEGION INTO OBLIVION, BETHESDA!!! Oh well, that leaves us with the glory, ladies and gentlemen! Please, leave your reviews for this basic outline if you will; I need to know how it's shaping out thus far.

Let me go ahead and put this up. I found a decent map of Cyrodiil and marked a few places (with black circles) that MAY make good locations for Forts (if we use the Fort idea mentioned in my post.) NOTE: SOME OF THEM MAY REQUIRE THE BORDERLESS CYRODIIL MOD OR THE BORDERS TO BE DISABLED IN YOUR GAME.

Other then that, they all look okay. I tried not to go over any locations, just incase they may be required for some reason in game. If someone wanted to put a Fort over a Mine or an older ruined Fort or the elven ruins or something, I don't think it'd matter, as long as there wasn't anything quest-relative in that ruin or mine.

I tried to upload it here, but it was too big. =_=

The main problem with rebuilding the older forts is that they are mostly below ground. The Imperial Legion forts streach into the sky; they had cellars, but for provisions. The locations on the map I provided just now seem to offer the required amount of space while remaining small enough not to press into any other buildings or locations. If we were to TOTALLY rebuild the forts, from the ground up, it would work; but that would mean completely erasing them from the map or a 100% renovation, new walls and everything.

Actually, those are but the dungeons, storage areas, ect which we see. In rebuilding the forts, we would have many of the rooms in the main tower and in buildings surrounding the tower. With Fort Nikel, I have completed everything (exterior/interior) in the main tower. I am now reacreating the outer walls. here is a sample of what I did to the main tower. Fort Nikel
