Two great ways to make Skyrim harder!

Mybe its me but having to use commands to increase difficulty, doing any kind of leveling tweaking actually, is a major immersion killer for me. I cant imagine wanting to move forward after that... even if the game is easy.

Im a level 50 nord, sword and shield, heavy armor and i kill bandits mostly with one powerstrike. I kind of like that... ima dragonborn... blood of a dragon and if i am in a swordfight with a some dumb bandits then i feel its cool to end them with a swing of my sword. Makes me feel powerful :) Any real challange, when i have to really use some potioons, are boss battles. You know those guys at the "dragon" walls...

Funny thing is, i dont feel any loss of immersion if anyone makes a mod that increases difficulty in a way i dont know about... you know, adds some levels to enemy when i dont know about it then its fine :) Its just adds difficulty... its all i want to know! I think im weird... :)

I feel much the same way. i expect not to have to fiddle with files when playing a game i bought for 50 bugs. it gotta be so easy for the designers just to make it harder. from a game i expect the hardest difficulty to be so hard that i voluntarely play second hardest.

i am playing a cloth wearing khajit mage and save for dying from one well aimed arrow the game is no challenge at all and it hasn`t been since level 20 or so. reason i see is the insane time the enemies need to regain their stance after getting hit by a mighty blow. i mean as long as i had mana drinks there was no way dying to a dragon just because it always gets stunned when hit by a fireball. since i enchanted my cloth with 102% destruction magicka not even magicka is an issue anymore. so you can say dumb your char down dumb your npc down/ don`t use one. but that`s not the point. of course i am trying to get as good as i can get cause that`s my reason for playing rpgs.

With the "player.adlevel 1" command you can play ANY style you want and it will be a challenge. Keep adding levels until it is.

Also the PISE Improved SKyrim Experience pack is great. Makes enemy mages have healing spells and use them, gives humanoids health potions and they use them, makes bartering harder, etc etc

Right now I am using PISE pack with most of the optionals, the command to reduce health regen, and have the level increased 16 times. Starting at level 1 like that since I still have a lot of the game to explore on my main(lvl 40),

No excuse for a PC player to be complaining about difficulty unless they think the default settings are too hard.

ok i see. but does the maximum level rise this way?

as i understand it there is no levelling beyond 81. though i guess you still gain in abilities.

but am i right if i think you can`t set your level beyond 81 so it`s not true you can make them limitlessly strong?

additionaly do i have to set my level back to gain another one if i reaced "the virtual max"?

these and other questions are why i do shy from using console. bar i absolutly wouldn`t use it for cheating.

on another matter it would be great if someone could hint me to a console way to redo quest errors.

i.e. quest items in inv that can`t be given back and such

Not sure how the level cap works with the command, as far as I know you can not move down in levels with a command. Basically if you add 10 levels you reduce your perk and stat base by 10 each not to mention making some of the mobs 10 levels higher than normal.

Thanks for this great hint on how to make the game harder! I started a new game yesterday and used player.advlevel 15 times to basically start at Level 16 when leaving Helgen. It was insanely difficult to even beat the simplest (... on the surface at least...) opposition. I also used 'Master' Level in addition. In fact for my playing abilities this seems even too much as you have basically no chance against 3 enemies at once or bosses. In Bleak Falls Barrow the final Draugr with the Dragon Stone is also close to unbeatable, at least for me.

So here's my question: after adding 15 levels, is it possible to maybe cut this back down to 10 for instance? I found out that there is also the player.setlevel command... is this basically doing the same as the add level? So after Helgen player.setlevel 16 for instance equals typing in player.addlevel 15 times? Then I should be able to reduce my level by 5 as well... or is there a problem?

I really like the game being a real challenge, but it needs to be adjusted properly I guess.

Not sure how the setlevel command works, one thing you can do is save the game in the keep before doing advlevel and reload it and change it that way....thats what I had to do. Im playing it with 17 advlevels on Master. Not sure how far I will be able to make it, if I get stuck I will start over lol.

I'd like to hear about your progress. 15 levels were maybe a bit too much for my abilities. Maybe I could do it, but I would need to really progress slowly fight by fight to get some perks in order to compete against decent opposition. Yesterday I managed to get to level 20 (=5), but stand no chance in Bleak Falls Barrow (Troll I could avoid by running :-), but final Draugr impossible), first quest of the Companions (Valtheim Bandit Leader) seems hopeless, also first Potema quest I get killed in the first fight all the time, same as first civil war quest for the imperials. I guess 15 was a tad optimistic :-)

By the sounds of it I'm going to have to lower mine as well, maybe to 12 levels, we'll see.

Either way, I love that crafting matters now!

Pure win, saved me the trouble of finding somethin else to do while i wait out the CS. My only 2 beefs with skyrim is how easy it is even on master and the HP regen. Cant belive i didnt think to use the console for that i think ill be setting the hp regen to 0 lol.

I used a sneaky archer type as sneak has never worked before and using bows was never really much fun in past titles but there to good, Mage type now so its just that bit more of a *censored* lol

I played on yesterday, keeping the 15 level increase - it's possible to play, but damn hard :-)

I really needed to use the weak AI on a lot of occasions to get through, gaining points here and there to level up 3 times ,now level 23=8. I also avoid gaining points with smithing/alchemy and so on, so pure gains from actually playing the game as a one handed fighter with archery/sneaking mixed in (otherwise I didn't see how to beat anyone at all, need ranged combat as you die to quickly in melee)..

With this I could actually beat a couple of bandits at Valtheim Towers and finally the Draugr with the Dragon Stone by running around this hall all time shooting like 100+ arrows to take him down :-) I also for first time used a race bonus of my redguard (adrenaline rush), which was nice. I never bothered before as you win easily without using it - now you really need to use all that there is.

It's definitely a huge challenge with this setup of +15, bordering on frustrating at times. I guess maybe 10 or 8 levels is a more balanced way to try.
