Foina
Being a girl I can only guess here, but I think most guys (playing in third-person mode) prefer to look at a female's backside through hundreds of hours of gameplay rather than some beefy Nord guy's rump. There, she nailed it. If I have to look at someone's back for hours while I play, it's got to be a pleasant sight.I've played pretty much only female characters. It gets awkward when there's to go through romance, though... Occasionally I make the exception. In Fallout 3 I played a guy. Same in Oblivion. Guess it's because I gave them my face, and, you know, I can't stick my beardy traits on a female, gods! the poor thing would look hideous... Dreamsxord
I always used to be mystified by guys playing as girls but then I heard someone explain it was better scenery and after starting I now play mostly female characters lol. It really is awesome.
imperium999
At least in my little corner of the universe, playing as a girl originated with the Street Fighter series. The girl characters always had some killer badass move that could take down the biggest, beefiest dudes. We'd play the girl just so we could see the look on our friends' faces when we kicked their butt. Also, in a very sexist way, watching the sexy girl take down some guy twice her size gave twice the satisfaction. I think the same holds true for these games. mirja
Someone mentioned that it's different with single player games and multi player. That I think really hit the nail, it's ok to be what ever you want in single player like Skyrim, you can be a female cat, a male lizard or a pretty little elf it don't really matter. But like people say, in "wow" for example dudes run around prostituting themselfs as elf girls. That is not proper, if I would play a multiplayer game like wow I would probably try to be a long haired male viking (like I am irl) type char and not a pretty elf girl. SandMan131313
The reason I play currently as a Fem character is partly because of FemSheps voice actress being amazing and partly because of the Dread Huntress armor for females. It just looked amazing and fit a vampire/daedra hunter type character so well that I had to try it out. Usually a male character in any game I get a choice but for ME and Skyrim I changed it up a bit.

It's the same mentality as playing a female character in a single player game. That is, you aren't playing *yourself* but what you wish girls were like. dwellufool
I have waited 2 years for this thread to die and it has not. Personal preference in a variable that exists in games, who'd a' thunk. but if you're playing a wimpy little girl you need to get your act together. beastJane
Maybe for some change I think. Most of games have only male characters.
RatcatcherOfKvatch
Who fits the plot and dialogue better, guy or girl? Of course you only know that after you've played for a bit, but you'll almost always have a definite "feel" for whether the words directed at you would make more sense said to a male or female. "It's ... it's you! The one from my dreams. I see your face every night before I drift off to dreamland, your beautiful angelic face, and now you're here before me. This is destiny! She can help us ... she must help us!" Oblivion's Champion is a girl. Dudes don't talk to dudes that way. "Warrior, good! Those stars will guide you to glory! You don't want to be some silly old mage, and you should join the Army for some real glory, and we'll drive out the Red Team and toss back some mead back at my old lady's cabin. Then we'll do some huntin' and fishin'! You're the best drinkin' budddy ever!" Skyrim's Dragonborn is a dude. Dudes don't talk to chicks that way. terrain182
i think it depends on the players point of view like dragon age and mass effect if I might say, I use the male and female characters to know the difference of the story line or to unlock the achievements..but damn man.. argonian ale.. oh what am i saying :psyduck: .. there was no significant difference between males and females in this game in terms of story than muscular and bouncing well you know ..
