nosisab
Actually I rather a GOTY Skyrim after a bunch of DLCs and maybe one or other bigger expansion is out :) Edit: And of course, actual patches to address the innumerable quests bugs. xaliqen
I don't pay much attention to these awards anymore. Indie titles are almost never properly considered and, as was pointed out previously, the awards show is little more than a healthy dose of cheesy pre-scripted made-for-TV entertainment as well as an exercise in corruption and marketing pay-offs. Still, congratulations to Bethesda for this award. I'm genuinely relieved Call of Duty MW 3 didn't win. ArildH
I was a little bit relieved when I saw Skyrim won, as I think it's the game that deserves the title the most (that being said, I haven't played a lot of 2011 games). However, then I made a gruesome, disgusting sighting. MW3 won best shooter over BF3. And after this, I cannot consider any of these awards seriously, not even Skyrim's. What a tragedy. papagnome
I find it very interesting that a game that has been out for less than 30 days and has had 3 patches already, could win a GOTY? I could understand if they took a vote for GOTY in January or February to award the 2011 prize, but to give the prize out on 12/11/11 and the year isn't over, just weird. Who chose to give out 2011 GOTY prize on 12/11/11? What if the planners scheduled it 30 days earlier? Just imagine if the award was given out 11/10/11; Skyrim would have to wait until 2012 to win a GOTY for a game that came out in 2011. :-) I know, maybe it is just my thinking of the absurdity of it. I have no clue if any new release game was coming out during the next 2 weeks of the year, but that would be just ironic if a game came out in 2011, and couldn't even qualify for the GOTY because it didn't come out a month before the end of the year. Omeletter
Gaming awards mean nothing. I wouldnt change my opinion on any game if it won 10 or even 100 awards. All awards mean is that a lot of people bought the game. For those saying that skyrim/bethesda did not deserve it - compared to other consolized games - it did. However, comparing to its past titles - it didnt. Not with those bugs, poor pc textures, and bad player to npc dialogue. (I can't ask the guard about where shops are, wtf?) OnlyOneWing
While I do think that Skyrim does deserve GOTY. I also think that the awards are pretty pointless at the moment, until there is one committee and one organization whose purpose is to choose which game is the greatest game of the year regardless of what is currently trending in the markets. Some games like Earthbound, Xenogears and many more never received due recognition in their time... Besides, who ever remembers what games were "Game of the year" five years ago? minngarm
Its a bit of a stretch calling it a RPG, but yea certainly one of the better games of this year.
