Sorry to see more great mods removed

I rhink for most people is was that simple, but I think for quite a few, it was the way it was implemented that made it untenable.

I really just wish Beth would work with Nexus to create a paid membership site as a way to at least ease into paid mods. This way mod authors get some money but don't necessarily have a direct link to entitled users. Not that it would eliminate the bigger schmucks anyway, but at least it would keep a layer of seperation. Also may help Beth from creating another complete cluster.

This makes a lot of sense to me. My problem isn't with Beth's plans so much. Instead, they just tend to implement those plans very poorly. For instance, the way they handled mods for consoles earlier this year.

Paid mods are fine, but the idea needs to be introduced in the right way - and in such a way so as to not kill the modding scene entirely... Though at times I suspect that may actually be Beth's intention (either that or they are totally incompetent).

Paid mods are anything but fine. Who's going to create them? Modders?

It's one thing to be patient with a labor of love for the community at large, but it's quite a different puppy if you pay for it and they bug out on you. As soon as there's a price tag attached, it turns into a product.

That plague already ran rampant with the Sims 2. Paid content by the numbers, most not worth half the money that was charged.

I would prefer not to have paid mods. On the long term, I think it will kill the Beth modding scene. That's my personal opinion, and a hunch at that. But so many modders seem to be extremely keen on the idea, so I've just come to accept it. I'll adapt to the situation either way, even if that means no longer playing Beth games.

In the end, we'll only know the true answer 5 years after it happens. However, if Beth implements it badly, we'll know the answer a whole lot sooner. I guess that's my point.

Lets face it, without the modders, Bethesda would have to put a lot more work into their games, or only release them for review the day before they come out, in the hope that they will sell enough before people realise that it's a steaming pile of poo (that's not a dig at Fallout 4 which I love).

I wish that I'd known that I could mod Mass Effect, maybe I'll play ME3 again, with mods.

I appreciate the modders on this community for the excellent work that they put in, I wish I was able to do what they do, but I have neither the patience nor the skillset. I don't always agree that "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" but in this case it definitely applies.

So a big thank you (and a Merry Christmas) to all the mod authors that publish their work on here and Merry Christmas to everyone else.

Or would they?

They would have released the exact same games they're releasing now. Don't forget that console mods are a new thing and anything but on the same level as PC modding. And yet they always sold their products on console. I'm not sure if they already started with Morrowind, but their later games always made it there.

So there's no indication that they would have invested more time and effort,

Beth is a small team, moddable or not they'd be able to put the same amount of work into the game. IF only the suits would let them work on one game at a time and properly polish it.. but meh. Guess modders can do the rest.

Now, can modders get some f*#@ing tools and tutorials or do we really have to figure out EVERYTHING ?

This is super depressing. I finally managed to get a PC that could run Fo4 properly and go to start installing mods and just... Devastation. Like there isn't even an actively supported male body mod now. Just skins for one you can't get and Super Hero Bodies which isn't supported by anyone. Fallout always had the weaker mod scene vs the ES games. But this really feels like the whole scene is gonna die.
