Imperials not really an option

Must be a reason Bethesda made Skyrim an analogy to relatively recent history, I wonder what was it?

For now I'm through the sixty or seventh character, completed the main quest with almost all of them with one in somewhat different quest lines and none of them even choose a side to date (what mean I don't even know how is that civil war and is time to play the two sides with two different PCs). Just I don't feel at rest with any the sides and in this I must say Bethesda did a greater job (no irony here).

Edit: As pointed already in this thread, the Thalmor is the real enemy there. It's the most intolerant/xenophobic faction by far.

Logic is the way to go. They tried to kill you, but you can't fight a war on emotions. The Imperials are the best chance to stop the Thalmor and maintain stability in the region. You think the Nords are going to be able to solo the Thalmor? Not happening; you'd need almost every province, since Morrowind is trashed, Blackwood is only interested in finishing off Morrowind unless the Empire takes them back, Cyrodiil is half-trashed, and Skyrim is battling Alduin. The Thalmor are untouched, and they've been planning since the Oblivion Crisis. The Empire is the only force that holds enough power to bring the provinces into line and organize against the Aldmeri Dominion.

Look at my sig; I'm the tactician. I know what I'm talking about here.

Did you know that the only thing keeping the Aldmeri Dominion from overrunning Skyrim entirely is their agreement with the Imperials? Remove the Imperials and voila! Thalmor are free to conquer Skyrim.

Think with your head, not your heart. :P

This. My Sionid knows things are rarely what they seem like on the surface (ie the whole beginning scenario) and even though she followed the Imperial who saved her from Helgen, she ditched him right after and went on her own, preferring to take her time and figure things out once she got familiar with both sides. Being a Nord she wants what is best for her home land, and feels keeping the Imperial presence strong is necessary to keep the Thalmor in check. In her mind siding with the Stormcloaks would only lead to increasing weakening of the Imperials which is exactly what the Thalmor want. Sionid will not do anything that makes the Thalmor happy!

The only real enemies are Thalmor !! They acted for this: Imperial vs Nord, men vs men...licking mer bastards !!!!

But Imperials can't really fight Thalmor. They are dominated by them, at last...the only hope resides in a warlord like Ulfric. And I, a Nord, am not saying I like warlords, neither Ulfric...

Technicly though, the Thalmor want the Civil War to go on indefinately, because it weakens the Empire and prevents the Stormcloaks from fortifying Skyrim. Still, they view an Imperial victory as the least favorable of the two potential outcomes.

We also ahve a very big gap in regards to how you were captured, and under what circumstances. The general assumption is you were in the wrong place at the wrong time, which, considering the geopolitical circumstances of the Civil War and such, i can understand and sympathise with the decision to execute you. For all we know, the PC WAS going to sign up with the Stormcloaks when the Empire sprung its ambush. Its just as likely he was picked up a mile away for pissing on a sign post. We simply don't know why the PC is there, but its safe to assume that the NPCs do.

As such, you have to accept that the opening sequence has you in lead blinders. You have no idea what happened before, only what happens since. Because actions lead to reactions, and what we experience in the opening sequence is the reaction, you can't judge it without knowing what actions caused that. As such, i personally think the whole opening sequence should be ignored whne trying to determine who you side with. There just isn't enough information to make an informed decision.

Oh yeah? Since when "keeping the Thalmor out of skyrim" is letting them to walk around, kidnapping and torturing your ppl as they please?

Get Ulfric to high king and the Thalmor wont even be able to put a foot on Skyrim.

And where the fck does the ppl get the idea that the Empire will get on their feet? All i hear from the imperials is "We're going after the thalmor... any moment now... wait for it... waaaaaait for it..." They WONT be able to recover by having the thalmor doing business right on their houses. A thalmor official could grope the Emperor's ass and he wouldnt be able to do nothing bout it.

Morrowind doesnt exists anymore, Black Marsh drove the imperials out long ago and i dun see them shaking hands anytime soon, Hamerfell rebels either, they already have been betrayed by the empire once, they wont make the same mistake again.

The only factions that are actively doing something against the Thalmor hate the empire, and for good reason. And unless Mede has 10 legions hidden under a blanket in High Rock, the Empire will stay as it is now. Enforcing the Thalmor's will on Tamriel. He has no support, no troops, no allies, nothing.

Ulfric is the only one in a good position to actually unite what was left of the old Empire. He doesnt has ties with the Thalmor anymore, he has seen them at their worst, by torturing him, making him believe he was responsible for the fall of the imperial city, while in fact the Thalmor already had taken it from the Empire. He knows it, he knows he was played.

Extending the Empire's rule over Skyrim is essentially extending Thalmor's grip on Tamriel. The Empire is doing nothing against the Thalmor and a promise that they will do something bout it sometime in the future is not enough. Its like trying to arm a bear trap inside your house, when you have a bear right next to you "Stay put until i can arm this okay? There, now step on it please" The Thalmor would feed Mede to the wolves if they even suspect he is planning something against them.

I like neither the Empire nor the Stormcloaks.. Both are so deeply flawed its not even funny. And playing as a Wood Elf, I get so much harassment for no reason from everyone I meet lol.

THIEVES GUILD FTW :D
