FME: 1.17.1[17.1]

SparkFred was racing around with one of the K9Cs robotic dogs because Suzanne had this done to have the claptrap quiet down before going into an adapted rest-recharge bay. Like ElectricFred, SparkFred had now been enhanced-augmented as all of the group had been but not in a way that the Doctor considered to be 'too advanced'. Though officially a renegade Timelord, the Doctor tried to only bend the non-interference rules only so far with out even coming close to breaking them.

ElectricFred sat close to Suzanne and the radroaches that were also enhanced-augmented.

Jasmine examined a set of light power armour designed to deal with such threats as the roachmans, superroaches and more. There were 10 of the new style Exterminator Light Power Armours or ELPAs taking account partly of what the Doctor had learned with his examinations of captured superroaches and roachmans. She spoke to the others there.

"Time passes faster, here 'inside' the DocTARDIS, than it does 'outside' in the vault so not much time has passed out there in real terms. Despite that we need to get out there and find some kind of small, local, electric transport so we can take the newly made gear to another safehome. From there I will try to make contact with Amata and hopefully she will agree to mediate between us and the vaultgov hierarchy. I do not want them grabbing up all of the new gear, leaving as just as bad off as before if not worse."

Vaultgov stood for vault government just as vaultcrats were vaultgov bureaucrats, technocrats and other types.

Dazanne responded. "Will not vaultgov send enforcers to deal with you and to take the new gear?"

Jasmine gave a hard smile. "I hope that they do and that these 'enforcers' run into trouble so as to prompt vaultgov to send us more resources. Amata's father is the ServoVault Overseer. Amata says that he was sent here, in exile, despite having some good friends high up in the vault hierarchy. Why, maybe because he is a narrow minded, short sighted, paranoid fool but perhaps there is another reason or more than one."

Jasmine: "He has vaultsec, vault security, officers and guards along with robots under his control. There are others, of course, but they are not of fighting groups; they are such as technical, emergency prevention response, administration and law. Law officers, and guards, are too few in number to do their job properly, especially since the damned local overseer transferred about half of them to security. He did so because of his growing unpopularity that is due to his increasing petty corruption and incompetence."

Dazanne nodded. "I take it that you disapprove of him."

Jasmine looked at the clone as if trying to work out if the Timelordite was being sarcastic. "There is something rotten happening with the ServoVault101 vaultgov and the ServoVault101 Overseer is up to his neck in what ever is going on."

Alarms began to chime through out the DocTARDIS main areas but quickly ended.

DocTARDISmind: "We are were under attack from what appears to be a Timelordic type weapon aimed at damaging the TARDIS' barriers so as to allow some kind of intrusion to take place. The attack quickly failed but may have just been a way of testing defences; in this case other such attempts will follow. The DocTARDIS is now in full lock down mode until further notice."

Dazanne looked concerned. "It appears that the Rani knows we are here and has struck at us whether alone or with assistance from others."

Jasmine frowned as she realised that the Exterminators were stuck in the DocTARDIS for the moment.

FME: 1.18.1[18.1]

The Rani was coldly looking at the semitransparent cube, with the young woman inside it who looked as if she could have been Jasmine's identical twin. She turned her head to look hard at the PaleOneMan. "You sent a cauliflower to the PrimeOverseer of TechVault101; why did you do this?"

The PaleOneMan responded. "My limited research indicated that humans like sending flowers to one another and cauliflower is a 'flower' is it not."

The male scientist, a SciTech science-officer, looked startled and then tried hard to conceal his amusement.

The Rani shook her head. "Not that kind of... despite the name a cauliflower is a kind of vegetable and is not truly a flower. Try sending her some roses but make them of various colours."

The science officer dared to speak out. "I may be able to assist, being another human mortal who has grown up in a vault. In vaultfolk terms it is best to send one white, one red and one yellow rose. You might also send a recipe for cauliflower soup to explain the cauliflower."

The man knew that the pair understood very little about humanity and would not get that he was daring to poke fun at them. As for the combination of colours, with the roses, in vaultfolk terms it was a marriage proposal.

The Rani nodded. "I approve!"

The PaleOneMan spoke. "Yes, as one does also. You may take care of this matter, Michen. You will be rewarded for doing a good job."

The Rani, who did not often bother to remember names of mere mortals, gave the PaleOneMan an icy stare that had no effect on him at all. "Why would you reward anybody for doing their job?"

The PaleOneMan responded. "Rewards come only with well done tasks and punishments with jobs done very badly with out good reason for that happening."

The Rani spoke. "You are getting soft and perhaps less reliable."

Then she turned and strode out of the chamber. Soon she was gone.

Michen spoke, choosing his words with care. "The Rani may be a threat to you."

The PaleOneMan responded. "Yes, she may be in future, but the real threat is that other one and you know of what I speak of."

Michen went pale. "Yes, I do, and I support your assessment."

FMEE: 1.19.1[19.1]

The Wanderer stood in a large underground chamber that had once been part of a basement-shelter of a building that was now mostly collapsed into rubble. Around him were semiactive machines, network-systems, and a row of chunky metallic humanoid tronrobots in locked, armoured, capsules. Two were securatrons, one a more dangerous protectron and the other three were servotrons.

The features were typical of Predoomsday utility with a hard, efficient, appearance and certain kinds of machines. The fire-extinguishers, the small government approved survival vending-machine, the squat metal mechanisms with their sloping plate consoles, the metal desks with their computer terminals, the rows of upright metal lockers, the water dispenser, the lightly padded metal chairs and some wall 3DTV monitors, all were normally found in such places. The big holotape projector was less common and the government propaganda posters, along one wall, were varied.

A group of people had cleaned up the chamber, straightened things out and had put the robots away. They had also stored crates, barrels and other containers of stuff there. Yet they were not there so the Wanderer stood and waited very quietly.

Then they came, ten men in grey vaultsuit like jumpsuits that bore the symbol of the DCTech Corporation, driving five small golfcar like electric vehicles with flatbed backs. On each of the goforcar were barrels and-or crates. Five were drivers and five rode shotgun literally with autoshotguns. They all wore black security body-armour including visorhelmets.

They halted and, almost as one, got out of the vehicles. They were almost identical to one another, with features too perfect to be real for they were vaultdroid androids.

One spoke, the only one with a coppery bar with three silver stars. “In 18 minutes the robotic monotrain from TechVault101 will arrive. We will empty the monotrain freight area of special box barrels and then load up the monotram with all that we have here. Then five of us will go with the monotrain to TechVault101 to protect the cargo. Seek clarification if you need it.”

No clarification was apparently needed for none was sought.

The Wanderer reached out and 'touched' the androids but not with his hands. They at once froze before they softly shimmered for a moment. They were enhance-augmented but also deeply reprogrammed-reconditioned. They had new abilities and old abilities were improved.

The ten former vaultdroids turned, almost as one, to face the Wanderer. The leader spoke. “We understand what you wish of us. All ten of us will go to TechVault101 but five of us will infiltrate the vault through a secondary way. Those five will meet with the Timelord known as Doctor Who who is in something called the DocTARDIS. They will give to the Doctor what he needs to have from you, that you will give us and have already given us.”

The android continued speaking. “The other five of us will make sure that the freight is delivered to the right point from where it will go to end up with the Genneg; the Genneg is a very secret faction as led by the 1Gen1 as supported by the 0Gen0, the 13Gen13, the 39Gen39, the 169Gen169, the Genserv and the Genforce. They follow the Grantarg of recorded scientific data, beliefs and prophesies. Where does this Genneg come from?”

The Wanderer spoke. “Good, you show curiosity and the strength to seek answers. The truth is that the 1Gen1 is the key that being a false name to a truly ancient entity who has born many titles, shapeforms and yet has always sought one goal. That is to prolong its antinatural existence no matter the cost to others for the 1Gen1 absorbs life energies to prolong that existence but also carries out other horrific acts to do the same.”

The android leader spoke. “The five of us who make the delivery will return here, with the goods given to us, where we will meet with others sent here by yourself. Why do you not confront this 1Gen1 yourself?”

The Wanderer smiled. “One's actions are guided by the Path of Balances and the Limitations of Intervention. If one was to meet the 1Gen1 at this time the results could easily be catastrophic for this world and all life on it. That is a great struggle could break out between us that might easily destroy the Earth. It is best that the 1Gen1 does not know that one is here let alone that we could meet. So to you, as to the vast majority, I am the Wanderer. I will leave you now but will leave behind some extras.”

Then the Wanderer was gone, vanishing with a soft shimmering, almost as if he had never been there. Where he had stood were ten silvery, metallic, compact backpacks and ten silvery, metallic, compact cubecanisters with rounded off corners. To look at they seemed fairly basic in nature but looks were often deceptive and in this case they were very much so.

The changed, enhanced-augmented, tronrobots came out of their pods and would be there to maintain, and guard, the chamber while the androids were away. They had also been deeply reprogrammed-reconditioned.

FME: 1.20.1[20.1]

Jasmine's friend, Amata, confronted her father. He was the ServoVault101 Overseer, both of them wearing tight blue vaultsuits and she frowning at him. She stood before him, as he sat behind his big desk, and did not offer her a seat. Again she had that feeling, that was growing stronger, that there was something not quite right about him. They had never been truly close so it was hard for her to be sure.

Another young slimly voluptuous woman stood next to them and she wore a knee length skirt, a short top, and highheel shoes. Helena was an android and in theory there to be the overseer's personal secretary but it was an open secret that she was also there to serve his sexual needs.

The office chamber was more lavishly decorated than it used to be with two wooden framed oil paintings taken out of storage, both being of naked young women. There was a plush couch that could turn into a bed, further fuelling speculations on the man's relationship with Helena. Generally, though, it was still largely drab with standard VaultTech fittings, furniture and even decorations of 3Dposters.

She spoke out. “There are plenty of supplies so extending the rationing is not needed and it is not fair because your cronies are spared.”

Alphonse glared softly at her. “Be careful with that tongue of yours, daughter! Our family gains from the rationing system and so do you. The new rationing regime will be implemented as of the start of next month.”

He smiled hard at her. “I am considering the abolishing of the law office here in the ServoVault and their total replacement with our fine security department.”

She shook her head. “If you want to alienate yourself even further from the common vaultfolk then you should continue doing the things that you are doing. There is a group of Exterminators who appear to be missing and yet you refuse to send out any form of search-rescue group.”

Alphonse shrugged. “They are all trouble makers carrying out dangerous civic duties. Why waste precious resources rescuing them.”

Amata frowned. “Because they are my friends.”

Her father shook his head. “Now you will be forced to get better friends. Helena and I have work to do so please go. No more barging into my office, as you please. Go, quick, before I send for security.”

Noting again how disturbingly it was that Helena looked like her friend, Jasmine, Amata turned and left. Yet, as she did, she was surprised for the android gave her a quick, friendly, smile that the overseer could not see.

Amata had the growing conviction that the man, that she had just walked away from, was not really her father at all. The real Alphonse Almodovar had been a very hard man, in some ways, but quite efficient as an overseer and far fairer than that monster was.

Just over an hour later the overseer was found dead in his office, the android had vanished mysteriously because none had seen her go out through the one official door, and the overseer's desk had on it strong proof that the overseer was a type of biosynth known as a doppelganger.

That same information led to the finding of eighteen hidden statuscapsules holding the real Alphonse and nine others, eight capsules being empty. The eight doppelgangers were already killed by the time that the law officers got to them.

Amata's real father, along with the other rescued nine, were not in any condition to return to their old posts. One Petra Thomson took over as a temporary placement and was soon proving to be a much better overseer than either the real Alphonse and the doppelganger had been.

The security office was cut back and resources returned to the law office, including officers, NCOs and constables. Rationing was itself cut back with increased portions of freed up items. There were other changes that made life for most ServoVault vaultfolk easier.

FMEE: 1.20.3[20.3]

Amata was soon in a large, well equipped, search-rescue party that headed out to find out what had happened to Jasmine, Karina, Arnold, Benjamin, Shanz, the HackinTriplets, ElectricFred and SparkFred.

Just before they departed, they learned that the Exterminators would become an official office with a tripling of resources including such as people, robots, androids and even some power armour.

As for Helena, the android that looked amazingly like Jasmine, she vanished with out a trace. The mystery, of her leaving the overseer's office with out going through the official door, was solved; the whole circular desk area could be shifted as a power door. This would expose a rampway going down to a network of secret tunnels, chambers and other features.

FME: 1.21.1[21.1]

Agnes Taylor, who had been born in ServoVault101 and had lived there nearly all of her life; yet she had also been one of at least two dozen people who had gone on secret expeditions to the surface, that is the DC Wastelands. Not only there, but in a surprising other place that was not part of the vault, she had gained troubling information about a dangerous TechCorp conspiracy taking place inside TechVault101.

The grey haired woman, who was fairly youthful thanks to a limited rejuvenation treatment, was making her way carefully through the central subvault of ServoVault101 where the PrimeOverseer had her office. In her blue vaultsuit, and vaultfolk artisan made pouchvest, she blended in easily with those around her. Yet of the just over 21,300 people in ServoVault101 she was one of the very few who knew the some of the darker truths of that place; most vaultfolk did not even want to know.

She had heard good things about the newish ServoVault101 Overseer but wondered again if she was doing the right thing in telling the woman the terrible secret that she had known; there was good reason for caution as others had been killed, or had vanished to suffer mysterious fates, to conceal the truth.

She rode her adult sized tricycle through light traffic, being thankful to be able to work of some of her stress while keeping fitter. Pedal powered vehicles were very useful in the larger hallways of the vault and could use the bigger rampways plus elevators to go between levels. They were energy efficient and promoted fitness; those too young, old or unhealthy to pedal could be carried along by others doing the pedalling. Some used mopeds, electric motor assisted pedal machines.

There were fewer electric vehicles, of small size, and people walking along outer most lanes. A few walkers pulled handcarts or pushed trams.

Passing a small paused pedalbus, dropping of some of its six passengers, she turned carefully and was soon going up a gently sloping, wide, spiral rampway tunnel. Staircases were not often utilised in the vaults because of the common use of basic remoterobots, handcarts and other devices that worked better with ramps.

After parking the tricycle, it was vault property and somebody else would soon be using it, she took her compact backpack like vaultpack. Then, in her blue vaultsuit, she made her way through public hallways too small to take vehicles except for 'extra compact transports'.

FME: 1.21.2[21.2]

It was not hard to find the overseer's office though she had not been there for a few years because not much had changed. So she went past various director, coordinator and supervisor offices, passed bigger offices shared by clerks. There were plenty of computer terminals and even some electronic typewriters. Receptions, both male and female, sat behind desks in hallway alcoves with doors leading into the offices. There were security guards standing sentry at more important places but most patrolled in pairs.

She strolled past the central law office where people were still moving themselves, and things, back from the security office. Sheriff Trent Bronte stood amongst his people directing and advising. He had been most angry, with the fake overseer, but for good reasons.

There were two security guards outside of the main office, in an alcove area, where the new personal secretary sat at her desk; that was a grey haired woman that Agnes had been good friends of since childhood. Patricia had gone on the same secret expedition, that Agnes had gone on, being a light brown skinned woman. The guards were two constables with full gear including body-armour and visorhelmets.

Patricia smiled warmly at the new arrival. “Agnes Taylor, ServoVault101 Overseer Petra Thomson has received your message and will see you now.”

Something was not right! Then she knew it. The real Patricia always called her 'Agi', an old nickname, and was never that formal except when in front of certain people. Yet another, deeper, reason was that somehow this one did not 'feel like' the real Patricia.

There also seemed to be something disturbing about the two security guards; for one thing she had never seen either of them before and, despite there being over 11,000 vaultfolk in ServoVault101, she knew all of the security people.

Then she remembered a dreadful past experience and, with a chill down her spine, knew what she was facing; back, when she was out in the Wastelands, she had found a fake overseer standing over a real, dead, one and she had killed the doppelganger assassin. It had become certain, then, that somehow she was able to detect not just doppelgangers but if they meant harm for not all did.

With impressive speed she drew the compact handgun out of a big pouch, of her pouchvest, and shot the three doppelgangers dead. First the fake receptions gained two bullets and then each security guard got one. Then she was racing into the overseer's office only to find it empty, of people, and the emergency exit exposed, the desk-platform being slid to one side.

FME: 1.22.1[22.1]

As Agnes Taylor looked down the exposed rampway of the now not so secret exit, from the ServoVault101 Overseer's Office, the PrimeOverseer wondered just how she was going to respond to the PaleOneMan's gift of roses.

Amata, and the search-rescue party, reached a junction chamber where four large hallways met. There they found evidence of the strange massacre of over two dozen radroaches and a radrat. Radrats tended to be savage fighters, when cornered, but this one clearly had been shredded with terrible violence. Oversized pieces of radroach faeces, and other evidence, soon led to the proof of superroaches.

Then a large Exterminator team reached them for the chamber was a safehome for them, though only a secondary one. They came, battered and fearful, with stories of dealing with not only superroaches but with roachmans. With them came a MrHandy adapted into a MrPesty extermination robot but its armoured hull was dented from being shot at by roachmans.

The Doctor, and Suzanne, found themselves delayed inside the TARDIScore.

Jasmine made sure her people were preparing to return to the more central subvaults of ServoVault101. Yet they were enjoying themselves also. Dazanne was equipping them with replicas of local tech being MrPortys, being a version of MrHandy that had each two special storage 'panniers', but also a few other items.

The Wanderer kept wandering or at least it might have seemed so to those that saw him.

The ten androids, as sent by the Wanderer, arrived at TechVault101 with five sneaking off away from the others to find the Doctor. As this happened the other five delivered the monotrain cargo to a hidden place in ServoVault101 where the PaleOneMan waited to greet them.
