SirGalahad
I thought I'd be protected from the constant Creation Club updates by using only the F4SE to launch the game, and I have been—until this morning. Somehow, Steam forced an update, and I can't use F4SE. How did they do that? I've read many times use of F4SE would prevent this.
HadToRegister
I don't see an update queued, but I'm also -4 gmt.As many other threads have said, you shouldn't just rely on using the Script loaders to prevent Steam from updating your game. The safest way is if you noticed there's an update queued, put Steam in Offline mode. Also, if you downloaded and installed Fallout.exe Auto Backup, your 'pre- update' Fallout exe would be tucked away in a folder in your Fallout 4 folder, where you could copy it back to your Fallout 4 folder and continue to play with the version of F4SE you currently have. JaneShepardN7
I swear I can't wait for Fallout 76 to be released, so maybe ( I said maybe ) beth will slowly focus on squeezing money out from it and MAYBE they will leave Fallout 4 alone. To answer about your problem: What I do is setting Steam offline and turning off automatic update for FO4. Every time I need steam online for buying something and whatnot I just don't run FO4 in the while. ( I even start my game through f4se from Mod Organizer, but you can be safe with whatever mod manager you use as long as you turn off the update and turn steam in offline mode )I let FO4 install its update only when f4se and all mods that need to be updated for the new version has been released. ( this is because I want to be always up to date ) Bothering doing what HadToRegister is suggesting in my opinion is just if you don't have on your plan to update fo4 for a long time, but it's still another valid alternative. kevkiev
You must have forgotten to (or didn't know that you have to) run steam (not the game, just steam) at some point in your session before launching F4SE. You have to do that so that the various steam process are running in the background. Once they are, and assuming you have the game to update only on launch, you can launch F4SE without fear of a pending update taking hold of your game. No need to fiddle with offline settings. I'm back to Skyrim atm but out of curiosity, after starting steam and then shutting it down, I launched F4SE and the game started no problem. And my FO4 is something like 4 updates behind. PS I use a F4SE Launcher shortcut, and not the launcher in my mod manager, but I don't think that makes any diff.
