Vortex doesn't recognize my version of Fallout 3

As the thread title says, Vortex won't recognize my version of Fallout 3. When I do a scan (I did a quick and a full scan) it won't show up in my list of games (even if I have "show hidden games" enabled). And If I try to add the game manually I get the this error: "This directory doesn't appear to contain the game. Expected to find these files: fallout3.exe". The game folder does have FalloutLauncher.exe and a Fallout3ng.exe files though.

I have the German Green Pepper Game of the Year edition (Link). Green Pepper is a German game publisher that sells older games at a bargain price. The game isn't linked to Steam. I'm running the latest version (0.17.8.) of Vortex.

If there was a report about this in the past I wasn't aware of it. I searched our feedback system, no mention of a fallout 3 version without a fallout3.exe.

Could you post a screenshot of the fallout 3 directory with the files that it does contain?

So I renamed the 3 Fallout3ng files to Fallout3. Which means I now have a Fallout3.exe, a Fallout3.exe.cat and a Fallout3.exe.cfg File in my data folder. That seems to have done the trick. Vortex recognizes the game.

Now I have a different problem: Apparently the German GotY Edition comes with an old version of the game that is not supported by FOSE. So I tried to install the official 1.7 patch for the German Version. But that doesn't seem to work. I still get an error when try to run the game with FOSE.

Tannin can get the fallout3ng.exe problem fixed, but now you are drifting out of the area we can help you with.

Advise on applying patches to the German version, and working with FOSE, have to come from a German Fallout 3 support site.

I am sure you are not the first to try to update your patch level. Good luck!
