Witcher 3 mod help for a new PC owner

I just built my first PC and I don't know how to use and navigate computers very well. I downloaded Vortex and downloaded mods for Skyrim and it worked fine. Then I downloaded 1 mod for The Witcher 3 and it worked, but no other mods will download into Vortex. They appear in my Downloads folder. I try to drag and drop the files into Vortex but it says "Can't import directories. You can drag mod archives here, directories are not supported."

- Is there a way to make all files I download from the Nexus site go into Vortex?

- Do I need to go into settings under the Mods tab "Mod Staging Folder(The Witcher 3)" and change what file it goes to?

- I see the files and things I have to extract in my download folder. Is there an easier way to just drag and drop something from your downloads folder into Vortex, then be able to click install?

Thanks for any help. I am trying to learn about modding, but as you can see I really don't have a very good understanding of using files on computers.

Drag the MOD, not the entire Folder to Vortex.

Or, better yet, Download the mods With Vortex and not worry about Dragging and Dropping.

Just in case, when you click on the "Download with Vortex" button and you get some message that you need an app for NXM links, just do this in Vortex.

Then, if everything wnet smoothly, if you click on "Download with Vortex" on a mod page, Vortex will open up and download the mod for you, and put the mod archive in the DOWNLOADS folder, and show you a notification asking if you want to Install it, then after it does that, it will show you another notification to ENABLE the mod.

One file was a manual download. I dropped the file into Vortex, then I clicked install and this error came up, and it didn't install the mod. I dont know what that error means.

"Archive Damaged. Encountered errors extracting this archive. Please Verify this file was downloaded correctly."

It was a rar file. I put it on my desktop then I extracted it there and got a folder. I opened the folder then dropped the 2 files into Vortex. They appeared as mods I could install. But when I click install I got that Archive Damaged error screen.

Well, error messages are there for a reason, IU would try to re-download the mod

I think I might have to copy the files into the Witcher 3 game files under my Steam folder. The 2 mods that didn't download into Vortex was because I had to manual download. I guess I have to watch videos about where to put those files since I can't use Vortex with them. The 2 files were HD textures and Enhance lighting mods.

I have a few mods installed for the game on Vortex. I click play on steam, and I get this error message. If I delete all the mods that are in my "mods" folder in my Witcher game folder under steam, then the game will work though, but without mods.

If you want us to help you, you are going to have to find exactly one mod that fails for you, tell us the mod name and where you got it, and we can solve this.

Saying you installed a bunch of mods and it did not work tells us nothing.

When you are just starting with a game, only install one mod at a time until you know it works and you are comfortable with it.

I just got through playing TW3. There more than a few mods for that game that aren't packed in a mod manager friendly format.

Progress made! Thanks for the help!

I now know that Vortex is working correctly. I installed "Over 9000 - Weight limit v1.31" and saw the mod worked. I also installed "Improved Signs Mod updated to 1.21" and that worked correctly.

I installed "modFriendlyHUD" and it does not work. In game I go to settings and I don't see any new options to change the HUD, just all the regular options. I watched a video of someone using the mod, and it showed him having in his game options a MODS option between Language and Credits. I do not see that in my game, so I'm assuming the mod is not working correctly.

On the Nexus page, https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/365, it told me I had to download "Unification patch for 1.32 -1.31 -1.31GOTY -1.31A GAMES VERSION [uPATCH]. I did what it said and pasted the folders and replaced the files. So I think I followed the instructions from the modder correctly.

Once I figure out this "modFriendlyHUD" problem, I'm gonna try to figure out how to install the "The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project", then maybe an ENB.
