Kuropentacle
I am using Vortex 0.17.11, when I launch I have the "Anti-virus protection detected" notification. I put Vortex as exeption to both my firewall and anti-virus and the problem persisted. When I am using the check again button I get the access denied error saying that Vortex needs to access to a file named " __vortex_canary.tmp" but doesn't have the permition to. I then went to seek that folder in the file is supposed to be (inside my C:\Username\Documents) and the file is inexistant. I searched it to seee if it somehow landed somewhere else but nothing. After checking the log file I saw that the error was. Here's the extract of the logs that happens when I try the "check again" option : Sun, 19 May 2019 03:34:46 GMT - info: starting server on __fs_elevated_nV9m9Ew-N Sun, 19 May 2019 03:34:46 GMT - info: starting TLS server falseSun, 19 May 2019 03:34:46 GMT - info: starting server as Unix || Windows SocketSun, 19 May 2019 03:34:53 GMT - info: ## socket connection to server detected ##Sun, 19 May 2019 03:34:53 GMT - info: received event of : error get ACL: File not foundSun, 19 May 2019 03:34:53 GMT - error: failed to acquire permission error=get ACL: File not found, filePath=C:\Users\Kuropentacle\Documents\__vortex_canary.tmpSun, 19 May 2019 03:34:54 GMT - info: socket disconnected false

Tannin42
If the message you're talking about is the one I think it is you need to add the exception to the "Windows Defender"->"Ransomware Protection"->"Controlled Folder Access" settings. If that doesn't help: What game are you modding? Could you test if you're getting the same problem when using hardlink deployment (requires staging folder to be on the same drive as the game, doesn't matter which game you test with this)
Kuropentacle
I'm modding Skyrim.I'm using Avast. And Windows defender is currently disabled on my PC so it shouldn't have an effect. As for the hardlink deployment upon looking it is already in place and Skyrim works just fine.Edit : Vortex seem to work just fine otherwise, I didn't had any problem while installing mods and successfully passed all my NMM mods to it. But the notification is still bothering me as it is my first use of Vortex I don't want it to come and bite me later on because I neglected it. Tannin42
As far as I know the ransomware configuration is still used by other AVs that implement the same feature so please check it anyway.
Kuropentacle
After struggling to get windows defender to work and be activated for the sake of adding the exception the issue persisted (I'm on Window 7 and there is no specific ransomware feature on that version of defender), I even switched AVs (from microsoft security essentials to avast) adding the exception and no change on that part either. ladaienai
Which Anti-Virus are you using?Hi Tannin42.Thanks for your help. Strangely, (after opening the settings per your instructions), now the folder for Vortex is not visible in the C folder. Strange because I have seen it when altering the firewall settings and when altering the virus protection settings.Any suggestions as to how I can choose the vortex folder to add this exclusion on my ransomware settings would be immensely appreciated!Thx
Kuropentacle
Late addition to the thread but since I can't be on the PC on which I use vortex for some time. And neither Windows Defender, nor Avast have the ransomware feature, well for the latter it's more not available until I pay which I can't afford as of now. You don't have the ransomware setting in Windows Defender because you're running a 3rd party AV.
HeyYou
Late addition to the thread but since I can't be on the PC on which I use vortex for some time. You don't have the ransomware setting in Windows Defender because you're running a 3rd party AV. I believe controlled folder access is independent of which a/v you are running......
