Cannot manage load order

I'm so frustrated with Vortex right now I'm about to just switch. There doesn't seem to be any way to manage load order.

I have tried setting up rules and I have created load order groups and the file I need to be lower in my load order simply will not move. It's prydwenoverhaul and I need it to load below any other mods the change the Cambridge Police Station. I know what mods do this but Vortex will not let me move it. Please tell me I'm missing something simple. I have watched the in Vortex tutorial and as I said i've tried all the things Gopher goes over. I've restarted Vortex 27 times and that mod will not move. What do I do?

DO NOT, put ALL of your ESPs into Load order groups.

Just put that ONE specific ESP, into the Group, "Dynamic Patches", hit SORT, and you're done.

The reason the mod won't move, is because you've locked every single ESPs into certain groups, and basically blocked the ESP you're trying to move, into an unmovable position.

There's no need to micromanage the load order of Plugins anymore like you did with NMM, this comes from misunderstanding how Vortex handles sorting vs how it used to be done in NMM.

Here's a good article to read on dealing with load order.

I created a group called "late loaders" and moved it to very late in the load order. It still doesn't move. I just now changed it to the Dynamic Patches group and it still didn't move.

Did you put ALL of your other ESPs, into Groups?

If so, remove them from the groups.

LOOT sorts everything else on it's own

Also, did you hit SORT after you put the ESP into the Dynamic Patches group?

I did hit sort. I even restarted Vortex just to be sure. There are currently 4 groups group in my load order. Fixes (which only contains the unofficial patch), DLC (self explanatory), Alternate Start (which has the mod alternate start), and default (which is all other mods.) I created the 5th which I only put this SINGLE mod in. And it still doesn't move.

There is a very effective way to manage load order with Vortex, and that's to let Vortex do it. Vortex was built from the ground up to do just that. Vortex also has tools to allow for load adjustments when needed, but that rarely happens.

Follow HadToRegisters advice: read the article that he referenced to understand the why and how of Vortex, undo all of your prior group assignments for esp's, assign your problem esp to Dynamic Patches (which is late loading in Fallout 4), and sort, letting Vortex make group assignments. That's it. No more agonizing over what goes where in your plugin load order.

I understand what you are saying. I have let Vortex manage it messes Cambridge Police station up because of it. I need prydwenoverhaul to load AFTER CROSS Brotherhood recon specifically and nothing I have tried works. Rules, groups...nothing. I've read the article and watched the tutorials and I do understand but in this instance Vortex is failing.

When you say "Created", do you mean you picked the "Dynamic Patches" from the drop down list, or you actually made ANOTHER group called Dynamic Patches?

Are you trying to sort the load order by dragging groups, or rules on the Manage Group Screen?

If so, you've probably got your group rules in such a tangle that nothing CAN move.

Do me a favor, click on the Robot/Picnic Table looking thing in the DEPENDENCIES column, for the prydwyn esp that needs to go after the Police Station Esp

A liuttle box should pop up that says

Loads After:

Now does it have and ESP names listed in Italics?

And if so, do any of the mods showing in Italics, happen to be a mod you're trying to use with this one?

The reason it might not be moving, is because of the groups you've made, you're trying to sort this ESP below something it should be ABOVE.

Groups should be used Sparingly.

I.E. don't assign them like you'd assign Categories in NMM.

Groups are a "last resort"

In my 279 mod Fallout 4 setup, I have 8 Esps total, in a group. The Dynamic Patches group.

No..the only group I created was called "late loaders". The Dynamic Patches was already present.

I tried to post a screen shot but the forum doesn't allow it.

Where did you put "Late Loaders" in the Rules screen?

Because if the "Late Loaders" group is sitting out there on its own, than your Prydwyn Mod isn't going to move anywhere in relation to the "Late Loader" group.

You should get rid of that group you made and set those mods in that group back to "Default"

Basically, what should've happened, is, if you had just assigned that prydwyn esp to Dynamic Patches, Without making the other groups(s) and assigning esps to them, then the prydwyn esp should've jumped straight down to the bottom.

Use an image hosting place like gyazo, because I'd like to see your RULE/Group Screen
