Vortex Went Coo-Coo on Update, and NOT for Cocoa-Puffs

Was installing a quick mod so I could get back to playing Skyrim SE, and Vortex popped up a notification saying an application update was available. 'Neat', I thought, and clicked the RESTART & INSTALL button. Vortex closed down, went beep-boop-bee-bee-waaaaaah for a few minutes, and then I got an error stating that the file "Uninstall Vortex.exe" could not be found. I clicked OK and it closed.

Now, at this point, Vortex will no longer launch, telling me the "The item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions." Fair enough. I checked the Vortex install folder and it is set to read-only. I go into properties and uncheck the read-only attribute, then click OK. Or Apply... I've tried both. Either way, I get an error saying I don't have access to do that. I can't even get into the root folder, because it's permissions are all hosed up at this point.

What do I do? If I install the latest version of Vortex from the site, is it going to wipe out my profiles, settings, and load orders?

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium Edition, Service Pack 1

What are you using for an AntiVirus program?

Windows Defender, AVG, Avast etc?

Trend-Micro Internet Security, but closing it has no effect. The entire Vortex folder is locked behind the "Access is denied" error - I've turned off the read-only attribute numerous times but that doesn't fix it. I'm in the local administrator group for the OS, and I had no issues with the folder before using the update feature. I was previously running version 1.0.18 and it looks like it's trying to install 1.1.0.

I also tried manually installing the latest version, and although it seems to have installed after skipping a few files, I still can't access the Vortex folder or launch Vortex.

FYI - I also tried taking ownership of the folder, and received the error "Unable to set ownership for folder". I checked to make sure no windows updates installed around the same time, and there aren't any. In fact, Windows Update is turned off. So this issue definitely seems to have started when I used the 'Update' option from within Vortex.

You should be able to install the latest version directly without it changing anything in your setup. You mods/profiles are stored in AppData which is not edited by the install/uninstall process.

I'm back up & running now. Installing the update manually alone didn't fix it, but deleting the Vortex folder, THEN installing the latest version worked. I looked in the AppData folder in-between deleting the folder and installing the new version, but the "Black Tree Gaming" folder was empty. What's the full path to the load order, profile, etc? I'd like to back that up, just in case.

Two important default locations for core Vortex game files are "AppData\Roaming\Vortex" and "AppData\Local\{Games}."

Found 'em both and made backups. Thank you for the help!
