nivea
I hope I wasnt the only person who got just alittle (alittle I swear only alittle) teary when watching the video? I wish more games could go back to their roots, before it was all flashy and had real story and where game play was more important.
Pixeldust
Neverwinter Nights 2 and Kotor 2 are actually some of the most unstable crash happy games I've ever played. They never fully fixed either of those games even to this day and made a self help forum so they didn't have to deal with it. Baldur's Gate & Neverwinter Nights 1 were made by Bioware, not Obsidian... while it's nice that they're making their games moddable... it still doesn't change the fact that quite a few of their games are rather buggy. Though it's still good news to hear it, but they've let me down before with their games... so im hesitant to donate anything to them.
Montana77
Grats guys, on being "The official site" for mods.Obsidian is well known for less than bug free but otherwise great games, and with mod support those bugs will hopefully be ironed out more quickly. Not to mention all the awesome mods! This is really great news imo, and I'm even more excited about PE now. popcorn71
This just made my day. Iv never been a fan of letting the Bean Counters and Suits get the final say of what is and is not done by game developers. All to often this leads to a half assed, watered downed, dumbed down game filled with partially implements ideas that while they look good on paper don't work well in reality. Just think of how much better skyrim would have been without Zenimax breathing down Bethesda neck... Edited October 7, 2012 by popcorn71
bobrockstar
This looks so very promising. Spring 2014 seems like an awfully long way away, but it should be worth the wait. My pledge has been made; let's hope the delivery impresses.
DarkSpiral
I discovered Project Eternity about a week ago, and immediately pledged my support. Seeing the Nexus mentioned in their latest update, and hearing Tim (in the video) talk about their plans, was utterly bitching. People, if you haven't swung by the Kicstarter page, you seriously should. This is totally worth getting in on the ground floor.
meteorswarm
Even if the kickstarter system is like a preorder system to get games done and get them cheaper i am still of the oppinion that kickstarter being used by a big studio is kind of unfair to the users kickstarter was made for. The developer without funds and first starters in their respective work, a studio that clearly should have the funds and the support already should imo not be able to make use of kickstarter. It is a extra money shot the studio is taking for their game/mod which already has a 100% chance of pulling throught. Them taking money from people throught kickstarter and taking attention away from indie developers i find not to respectfull even if this offers a cheaper game for people supporting the project. It is like a amateur coffee making contest where starbucks suddenly appears to compete. Edited October 7, 2012 by meteorswarm
UnitedStrafes
I agree with meteorswarm, what's next Capcom and EA asking for some funds to get the next Street Fighter or Madden 2058 going? I'm not putting Obsidian in that same boat, but come on.
bloody hypocrite
@meteorswarmDevelopers don't have big money. Obsidian had to lay off people recently. That's why developers have been dependent on publishers. Publishers care about profits. They want big profits. They want the widest base possible in order to maximize profit. They perceive anything without the widest base as niche, and thus not a large enough profit margin to be worth the investment. In short; no publisher will fund even the most talented developers to make a game that they are not guaranteed to make a killing on. My question to you is this; do you want an iso rpg? This is the only way it is going to be made.
bloody hypocrite
@ UnitedStrafes, Capcom and EA are Publishers, not Developers. If you are interested in games you should know this. After the giant logo there tends to be the logo of the company that actually made the game. edit: That came off a bit dickish. Imagine you want to make a game. It' a 2d platform game. In order to get funding by the publisher, because you don't have millions of dollars, they tell you have to make it in 3d, because "nobody wants 2d" anymore. Then they tell you that you need to add "rpg elements" to the game, because studies have shown that people like a progression element. You can't say no because then all the people that work for you will get the shaft because you spent all of your money in order to pitch the game to publisher X.
