R&D to Increase Squad Size

Okay I ploughed through most(not all) of the preceding pages as this interests me and just using skyranger capacity I have managed (with NPs 6-12 troops in all of EU) to complete the old game.

Sure I often had six clustered on the one spot or even "outside the wire occasionally*tough luck!!*. But NOT with the EW EU as something has changed here.

 

EW has a CTD when any trooper drops into a depression(eg on the DLC and other battleships and in the quarry map) and I have slowly changer every modification I

made to the exe and the DGC.ini and only dropping the capacity to six seems to stop it(so far)

The only other modification I have NOT changed is the 3 small items slots on all armours. Even the Arcthower pistol slot I changed back.

 

MHO is that there is something in EW that makes any increased capacity unstable and this is IN the savegames and hence corrupts them

I am a total PC moron so take all this with a grain of salt : ) but I have restarted EW about 20 times to try and fix this.

 

Ohh I had the selection problem just like everyone else and usually finished up with seven "top of the list" soldiers (6-12)and five ones that I wanted to give exp to(1-5).

This was no big problems a sit was the top of the list ones that stacked as a six and that suited me until I tried it in EW . In EU the DLC handled it but in EW EW the last

"battleship capture" crashed always as I approached the pair of lower gates ( I grenaded the first one as I always crashed there if I did it by touch)

 

I hope that this helps but remember my PC knowledge is threadbare.

 

Oh I have the latest EW steam build and ToolBoks in/out makes no difference.

That fix earlier in the thread that fixed spawn locations for troops after 6, is that compatible with the latest patch?

 

I dont know how i can go back to just 4-6 troopers per mission :tongue:

I will update it for EW patch 1 later today (it should be a simple matter of changing the offsets).

Note that it is possible to increase squad size in bottom of the mod and that it will override skyranger_capacity value.

Also note that it is currently NOT possible to select WHO will be soldier 7+ if squadsize is increased.

Finally note that this code is currently highly experimental and that some changes to getcapacity function for EW with regards to blue shirts may be negatively effected. I have really no idea... As I have not even played the HQ Assault Mission where blue shirts are supposed to assist.

 

Edit: I have played a bunch of missions including base defence and not observed any issues. One blue-shirt did end up hanging outside the upper level railing after being attacked during alien turn... I don't think that was related to this mod but simply a native bug :)

3) is it all compatible with the latest EW under steam? Dunno

1) Nope, you set squadsize in the custom mod (see comments inside the mod)

2) Yes

3) Yes

4) Yes, retroactive (which is the reason for 1) )

So you're not actually doing any sort of map editing just functions that place the amount of soldiers and which preset location?

Yes, each map has at least 6 defined xcom spawn locations which are normally assigned to soldier 1-6. The mod reuse those locations for soldier 7-12 and offset them by one tile.

This works for all maps (at least EU but seems to be true for EW as well) except reversed pier escort mission map where one soldier gets stuck inside a box unless map file is edited to move that specific spawn location 1 tile away from the box (or get rid of the box, but I only know how to move the spawn location... so it is an easy choice)
