i've asked around for help with a mod but i don't think enough people are seeing it. may i make a topic down in requests to offer payment or a donation? something like "will paypal for mod" or the like. just wanted to ask permission before doing so. i know some places have different rules on that, but i kinda thought it'd be okay here since we can donate, but again, wanted to make sure and get permission. thanks!

Asking for, or offering payment, is against the site TOS. A donation button is provided on mod author pages who enable it, but *asking* for donations or *offering* payment is prohibited. Don't do it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

EVER.

The Nexus does allow authors to accept voluntary donations via a setting in their profile, but offering to "pay for modding" (or an offer of "modding for pay") will result in the immediate application of the Banhammer to the account in question. :armscrossed:

Extracts from the Terms of Service:

• Do not ever ask for donations.

• Do not upload files that require users to pay any sort of financial sum for parts or all of your file. You cannot charge money for the files you upload to Nexus sites.

• Do not solicit (ask for) ratings, endorsements or file of the month votes within your file description.

Donations

In March of 2012 a donations system was added to the Nexus sites that allows users to specify a Pay Pal address to accept voluntary donations through. Included in this system are two locations where users can donate to your account from; your profile and your mod pages.

Donations are classed as completely voluntary monetary transactions that yield no gain for the donator. That means that donations should only ever be offered as a way of thanking other users and never in exchange for services, support or perks on the site or with files. Users are not allowed in any way, shape, or form to offer their files, services or support to other users in exchange for donations on the Nexus. If people are found in breach of this then you can expect to be banned.

We have a 100% no solicitation rule in regards to donations. This means that you cannot request users donate to you anywhere on the site including on your profile, in your file or image descriptions, via images, forum comments or private messages other than by selecting from the already existing donation options in your preferences area on Nexus sites. If you are caught asking for donations anywhere on the site you are subject to receive a strike or an out-right ban depending on the severity of the breach of rules and on past warnings. Such strikes or warnings are handled based on the moderating staff member's own discretion.

I think the OP wants to offer to pay somebody to do some modding for her. She's not asking to be paid to do modding work.

If offering to pay someone to do modding work is against the rules, there will be a lot of cleanup required in the Requests forums. ;)

Again, (since you obviously missed it...)

From the ToS:

That means that donations should only ever be offered as a way of thanking other users and never in exchange for services, support or perks on the site or with files. Users are not allowed in any way, shape, or form to offer their files, services or support to other users in exchange for donations on the Nexus. If people are found in breach of this then you can expect to be banned.

The Banhammer will swing if anyone offers to pay, or to accept payment, for modding.

If you see such offers, Report them. :armscrossed:

now see, i'm damn glad i asked! and Lanceor, i just wanted to say i'm a dude. haven't looked at my profile settings in years. the wife and i opened this account back when we both played Fallout 3. there's 2 spots to enter gender (i had 1 as male 1 as female) so either i put 1 for me and 1 for her, or she filled it out for me (lousy typist w/ bad eyes here). probably the latter from the birthday that was entered. i'm old and can't remember lol.. i've changed the setting now. sorry bout that

but again, i'm glad i asked. don't wanna ruffle any feathers. love the site! been a gamer waaay before there were electronic games lol (go Risk!), and this place, as a depository of incredible talent, is simply invaluable. i will say tho, that the distinction between donating and offering payment is a fine line. i mean, Nexus asks for payment, (for which i happily provide becasue it's totally worth it! and of course they front the costs), and then with the donating buttons (which i've used a couple times and should do so more often) i just wasn't sure what was appropriate so thought i'd ask. the only stupid question is the one not blah blah...

well i got me some posts to edit down in requests lol. but if anyone wants to flip the way hammers & axes are carried on the back in Skyrim, i'll certainly thank the hell out of ya!

I must admit, I've been wondering this for a long time.

Why exactly can't I decide to offer payment to another modder, even if it's going to remain non-profit?

I'm have little knowledge of the laws regarding this stuff, but I don't see how it would come under Bethesda's jurisdiction to decided what I do and don't spend my money on, especially if it's guaranteed to remain non-profit and doesn't break copyright laws.

Or is it just to simply avoid any potential grey-area the Nexus doesn't want to risk entering?
