Things We All Wish Bethesda Would Learn

For FO4 I'm more worried about what they're going to remove, with every new Elder Scrolls game they take something good away and replace it with pointless fluff.

I've often said that TES VII will have photorealistic graphics for terrain etc, the character models will look slightly more realistic, it will take place in a one acre radius, have exactly three quests, and have three skills (stab, zap, and sneak). Either that, or ship with just the Construction Set and the words "We give up, do it yourselves" :P

Lol you know...i wouldnt be surprised at all, although the second option sounds really good, since modders done so many times a better job then beth :D

Dear Bethesda,

When you're struggling to make your game run on 7 year old hardware, and you really need to cut polygons, cut an extra branch off a tree or something. Don't melt all the characters' feet into a horrific, rotten blob. It looks like everyone has trench foot.

When thousands of fans buy the game day-one, only to realize that only 50% of people can play it because it crashes on launch, your week-one sales are going to suffer. They're going to suffer HARD.

When you sell content that was already in a previous game for $15 in the sequel (crossbows), people are going to call you on it.

It's a hard choice, but I think they need someone new to helm the TES series. Todd had a good run, but when he has ideas, he seems to have problems on determining how to implement them and to give them reason and benefit. And, well... That's what a lot of people are asking for - Systems and mechanics that are both interesting and rewarding enough to use and deep enough to expand gameplay. Skyrim's new stuff was at most kiddie pool deep.

I wish they would get back to making REAL RPG games, not the action/adventure stuff they have been doing. Oh, and maybe being a bit more communicative with their fanbase? And how about crawling out of bed with Steam/Microsoft? I note that Live! only lasted for one game... what a clusterfark that was..... DO NOT make me install some third-party piece of crap software to play a SINGLE PLAYER game......

So much agreed. I remember I couldn't instal Fallout 3 on my old PC because it didn't like Microsoft Live, and nothing I did would make it like it. I know they thought they had good reasons for going with Steam, and so far I've had no issues with it, but if my internet was down or gone I wouldn't be able to play Skyrim.

the communication thing really bugs me. In addition to more communication, I'd like better and more clear communication. How many times have they said "We don't know if we're doing X"/"We're not doing X" only to do it? The better answer, if they're unsure or unready to release that info, would be to say "We're not ready to discuss that yet."

im not sure, but isnt there any offline mode to Steam, where you could still play it if you have no internet?

What I wish they will learn are the following:

a) The right balance between demand of player's skill and demand of player character's stats for combat.

b) That having everything like armors and swords being leveled isn't a good idea. Some randomness makes chest unlocking, looting and dungeon crawling in general to be more fun and interesting.

c) That they should focus more on fleshing out things even if they are fewer, than adding lots of stuff that are just there and are completely pointless. (e.g. they made it so you can swing your sword from atop a horse, only so they can say that the game has horse combat. But its not fleshed out as it should be,as there are absolutely no NPCs fighting from horseback to fight against. Its basically just 2 animations that will make us look cool a couple of times and won't be necessary or handy to use any time after)

d) How to make a stealth system that works and isn't stupid. Perhaps they could ask the guys who made Dishonored to give them some lessons.

Yes. You have to activate the game first, but then you can set Steam to offline. I'd firewall it too for good measure, because I've caught it trying to connect anyway, even in offline mode. It will nag you to go online each time you start it, which is extremely annoying. I've been looking for ages for a way to disable that.

I leave it offline. Valve cannot seem to grasp the concept that they did not obtain ownership of my PC when I installed Steam and will not respect the "Do not update this game" setting. Every time I patch one game, I have to zip up a backup of other games just in case it decides to update them against my instructions. There's the Skyrim Unplugged mod that protects Skyrim against that, but that doesn't work for any other game.

1 To bug test properly and invest in a beta.

2 To not rely on us to fix their buggy code.

3 To actually put some effort in making faces that look... right.

4 To have some more imaginative outfits again, I hate the vanilla stuff in Skyrim, its so boring. Even Daedric lacks pizazz

5 That games should get more complex with sequals, not less.

6 That if you're going to set a game in Skyrim, with the freezing and the ice and the sub zero temperatures, a hardcore mode with hypothermia would be SO WELCOME.

7 That I occasionally like to simply fight a bunch of enemies; some method of creating "wave" moments where I can kill away until I quit the field having run out of arrows, magicka, functional weapons, insults, and bloodlust would be fantastic.

8 Pets. If you're going to give me a house, I don't want to stuff it full of snotty nosed orphans I orphaned in the first place with the possible exception of burning it down for insurance, I'd rather a few tame Sabre Cats and a big chubby Horker for my pool. I love animals and play as a Ranger, so some more options to interact with animals besides whacking them with a pacify would be much appreciated.

9 More complex romances and companions. Lydia was a heroic plank bless her, but a plank nonetheless. Give her some interesting dialogue, PUH-LEASE

10 A return to the weekly dungeon respawn, I hate having to wait 3 months just to do dungeons again.

11 Less neccesary animal slaughter. I hate having to kill semi-harmless wildlife.
