RickyT17
I've spent, literally, over an hour searching online and on this forum for the solution. Yet, having tried everything I've found, FO4 simply will not recognize the deployed mods. This is a new computer running Windows 10. My other 2 computers that I've used Vortex with haven't given me this problem. And, quite frankly I'm over it. I'm not having a snit, but rather, am looking for honest suggestions on a different mod manager, other than Vortex. It has always seemed convoluted and often times difficult to use, but it's always worked before. Now it won't and I just want a mod manager that will. I guess Mod Organizer or Mod Organizer 2? Any other suggestions?

Well, since this is a VORTEX Support Forum, you can either detail what your problem actually is, and get help with that, which might be an easy fix, or you can ask "What's the best mod manager" in the Fallout 4 forums, and end up with a lengthy and Epic multi-page thread/flame-war longer than Proust's "À la recherche du temps perdu"
Zanderat
Well, I guess your options are MO written by Tannin42, MO2 written by Tannin42, or Vortex written by Tannin42. Or as HTR said, you could actually ask for help. Sounds like it is an easy fix.
RickyT17
Yeah, I've been online long enough to know better than to ask a "what's the best" question. That was stupidity on my part. Thank you both for the offer to help. I think I've narrowed it down to this - If beginning a new game, OR loading a game that was last played on the same computer, mods deploy and work fine ingame. But when loading a game that was last played on a different computer, the game doesn't see the mods as being deployed. They're listed as no longer being present when launching the game. I've always transferred the saves from laptop to desktop and back again, as I play on my laptop during the day and my desktop at night. Everything has always played nicely together, for years, and on many computers, until this time. The only difference I can think of is that all of my gaming computers in the past have had two hard drives - OS on C and games on D - until this new laptop, which has only one drive. I wonder if the save files identify the mods as coming from a drive that they're now not on (as I go back and forth between computers). I intentionally bought a larger C drive so I wouldn't have to worry about having two drives. Maybe that was the wrong thing to do. But buying and installing a second HD is a pretty expensive trouble shooting step. LOL.
rmm200
With Vortex, the mods don't actually get installed in your game directory.Instead, a Windows "Hard Link" gets installed that points back to where your mod lives, in the mod staging directory. If that hard link points to a different computer than the one that Deployed the mod - all bets are off. When you bought the Larger C drive, did you copy the old C drive to it, or did you use a freshly formatted C drive? If so, then your problem is that the appdata\roaming\Vortex folder was still on your smaller C drive, which is why Vortex is confused, because Vortex stores that data in appdata\roaming\Vortex Also, Vortex keeps track of the mods from each savegame, (If you look at the Save Games tab, you can see the option on the DELETE drop down to RESTORE SAVE GAME PLUGINS However, the problem sounds like using using a mess of different save games from different computers, hard drives, installations etc, and completely confusing Vortex
RickyT17
I did not copy the old C drive to the new one. I used it as a freshly formatted C drive. I saved a few dollars on the new laptop, and just spent it on an SSD to use as a second drive. I'll just bet you all are correct and I'm just confusing Vortex with the C drive here and D drive there and this computer and that computer. I'll know here in a few hours if that, indeed, was the problem. I'll post what happened in case someone with the same problem is following along. Thanks so much for the help and suggestions. RickyT17
Nope. No joy. For some reason, on this new computer, I can't transfer save files to and from my desktop. Either Vortex refuses to deploy the mods correctly, or FO4 refuses to recognize them as being deployed. I installed the new SSD as Drive D, just like my Desktop and just like my last Laptop and it's just not going to work. I don't know what the difference is. I've transferred save files to and from computers for years and Vortex has always worked on both computers. I won't spend anymore time troubleshooting the problem. I've spent too much time, and now money, with it. I think I may learn how to install mods manually rather than using a mod manager - that sounds more tedious, but it should be more stable. Or I may just stick to mods hosted by Beth since those load regardless of what computer I'm opening the save file on. Or, maybe I'll just play FO4 on my laptop exclusively. It's not quite has good as my desktop, but it's not that bad either. Thank you very much for the help!! I really appreciate it.

OK, earlier you said that you didn't copy the old C drive to the new one. So, in doing that, you left ALL of the Info that vortex needs, on your Old C drive in C:\users\YOUR NAME\appdata\roaming\Vortex folder. I told you that a few posts ago. Vortex is messing up, because you didn't copy that folder over. Also, if you have the appdata\roaming\ folder on your D:\ drive for some reason, put it back on your C:\ drive
