Caboose386
ive tried to install vortex a total of 10 or so times, each time i get an error where it states "this file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. please install an app, or if one is already installed, create an association with the app through the default app settings page." if anyone has any idea how i can resolve this issue please help me out, thanks
rmm200
Where did you get the file from you are trying to install? What is the full file name (including type)? Typical AV problem is it renames the file type from .exe to something else. If that is the case, rename it to .exe and run it.

HadToRegister
the orginal file didnt have a period at all in it at all, i added a ".exe" to the file and i still get the same error  If you did that, and still get the "this file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. please install an app, or if one is already installed, create an association with the app through the default app settings page.", then you are doing something wrong. The file needs to be named vortex-1-1-2-16-1591780960.exe
Pickysaurus
If you have Windows set not to show file extensions that could be why the change didn't work:
Mystepholes
So I have this same problem every time an update is pushed out. I use the one click installer, the file downloads (it's an .exe file; extension remains the same), click to install and get an error message: Error opening file for writing: C:\ . . . \Vortex\uninstall.exe; abort, retry or ignore. I choose ignore; looks like install finished because I get the message "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. etc. Click on the icon and get a third message - windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. I am set as administrator - confirmed thousand times over. The Vortex file is read-only. Like I said, this happens every time and the fix is not consistent. Last time, it was a windows update that fixed the issue. Other times its been a complete wipe of both my skyrim files and my vortex files. I can't keep doing this - it's making my experience playing the game really unsatisfactory. I used mods from Bethesda before this and never had an issue. Can someone please help me. I really would like to get back into my game. Thanks. Vortex version 1-1-2-17.1592808220Windows 8.1, x64, 8gb RAM76 mods in Skyrim SE Do you use Windows Defender? If you do, turn of "Controlled Folder Access" Also, I'm wondering, if you upgrade 'every single time' that Vortex updates, why don't you just turn on the "STABLE" or "TESTING" option and the UPDATE option found under SETTINGS--------->VORTEX Because it sounds like you download Vortex manually each time and install it.
