Maybe in the future he learned a word that gives him the power to travel back and forward in time. only you yourself would know where you were in a certain period of time.

then he's got a stunning memory cuz he always remembers exactly what shout he used where and who he supposedly startled. which is the most baffling part. in all the letters it mentions how i upset or sth quite a few when i used a shout at place X.

All these ingenious ideas yet ner the shadow of a suspicion falls on Esbern the 200 year old possible former or crypto Psjic. Damn but that man is good! The absent minded academic who quietly shifts all the suspicion onto the hilariously inept Delphine.

And the Dragonborn you had the Thieves Guild watching, turning up at your door just struck you speechless didn't it? Dear me, an agent of your experience relying on two bit hoods like that. Was that a neat bit of reverse psychology, the whole "it's hopeless" thing? Or were you just backfilling for being caught off guard? Being in a deep cover within a deep cover you'd never actually clapped eyes on the Dragonborn had you?

It seems like it was written by a politician. Someone who maybe can't publicly endorse the db. For some reason I suspect Elisif, even though the courier received the letter from a male. Using a servant to deliver a letter to a courier is just the sort of thing you would do if you're in a position of power. Especially if you feel the need to distance yourself and stay anonymous. She would also be in position of needing a powerful ally, and unlike ulfric she doesn't die, though she would still need some sort of motivation to continue sending letters if you side with the stormcloaks. As to how she gathers her knowledge I can't say.

Well I gotta say that's a nice theory. She is a Jarl, means she clearly can have someone discreetly research the old tomes. I'll keep that as head canon.

I always figured it was Delphine, mainly because I can only recall getting the 'notes' *before* she was revealed as a Blade... After that, none...

 

But now that I think about it, Farengar seems and even more likely candidate - Speaking to him makes it clear that he would like to see the Dragonborn learn more shouts (even if he doesn't actually say it directly). That and his obvious facination with the Dragons in general... Maybe we'll get an answer in the 'final' DLC?

Unfortunately I don't think there will be another DLC, with another elder scrolls game being announced. Dragonborn -IS- the final DLC for skyrim..unless beth actually goes back, puts the new game on hold for a bit and works on another DLC. xD

There hasn't been another TES game officailly announced yet, but Dragonborn IS the last Skyrim DLC. Bethesda has moved on already.
