So have they fixed Vortex yet or should I just keep using NMM?

I'm legit asking and not trolling.
Doing a clean install and kind of want to know if Vortex as improved over the last 18 or so months?

Last time I tried it, it literally just didn't' work as well as NMM in that I could get NMM to work with my games/mods without having to wrestle it for 4-5 hours.

Is there an actually advantage to using it at this point? Or do I stick with NMM.

Note: I'm not asking if YOU CAN get it to work. If you can that's great. I'm asking if it has an actual tangible advantage over NMM other then "I like it better"

Same advantages over NMM it has always had.

When NMM installs mods, it does it to the game directory. Next installed mod that hits the same files damages the first mod to the extent if you remove the second mod - the first is broken.

Even MO 2, with it's virtual file system, is better than NMM.

But use what you want. If you had problems with Vortex 18 months ago, you are likely to have the same issues now. But that is on you; not Vortex.

How do you expect us to answer that when you don't tell us what bothered you about Vortex?

Both Vortex and NMM (as well as MO or Wrye Bash) all fully capable of modding the games for both small and large setups.

It's a matter of preference and if you don't give us an idea of what your preferences are, nobody can advice you.

What I can tell is that going by statistics most users picked Vortex over NMM (even if it meant having to migrate) and if you go by people ranting on forums or reddit most people who complain about Vortex will advice against it (duh).

"have they fixed vortex yet"

You say you're not trolling, but take a look at that statement. How on earth is anyone supposed to make sense of it and give you an answer?

What do you mean "fixed vortex"?

To give you some insight, I've been using Vortex since Alpha, and it's been improved continually for years. As bugs are found, they are solved. Go take a look at the Github page to see actual, live progress on bug fixes, improvements and just general stuff to make this mod manager better than it was previously.

This works just like when Microsoft roll out fixes to your system.

Ask yourself this question and see if you can make sense of it "Have they fixed Windows yet?"

So anyway, how about you tell us what it was you did that meant that Vortex was "broken"? That would at least add some context to the question which could lead to someone answering it for you.

If however, your issue was something along the lines of "It doesn't look like NMM, so it's broken", or "it doesn't have drag/drop so I can place my mods, so it's broken" or "it deleted all my games/formatted my hard disk/spies on me/erased all my mods so its broken" then that's going to be filed under issues which can only be fixed by the user.

Yea, that's what's known as PEBCAK, if you're wrestling with ANY mod manager for 4-5 hours, then it's definitely NOT the mod manager, it's the person using it.

I can install and get running a load order of 200-300 mods in maybe an hour (adding time for deploy times, download times etc), and I've been able to do that since I the Alpha versions of Vortex.

We're never going to "force" you to use Vortex (although the great unwashed of Reddit may disagree) but on a personal level I strongly recommend anything that isn't NMM.

I personally use Vortex for my modding needs, but I also have some use for MO2 when I create mods (although I suspect I could do this in Vortex with the help of a few small updates).

The other thing to consider is support. Vortex is our official manager. It's built by a core of 3 full time developers, several community contributors, 2 full time community managers and a good number of super helpful folks in the community itself. I doubt there's any other mod manager out there with the same level of support.

There are naysayers, yes and maybe some of them have a point for their specific needs but Vortex wouldn't be the #1 choice for mod manager if it didn't work :)
