Crash on Save Game Load Due to Vortex Sort

Hello,

I installed the mod IMPERIAL CENTURION BATTLE DRESS - EVOLUTION BHUNP SSE (44981) for Skyrim SE (the ESP-FE plugin). Vortex sorted the plugin to FE(012). My save game won't load. I check the Lock to Index radio button, which send sends ESP-FE to the bottom of my load order. I then return the Lock Mod Index to Sorted Automatically. Save game loads fine. Mod works fine. Game runs fine. Closing and opening Vortex sorts the mod right back to FE(012) and save game won't load.

How to I tell Vortex to not sort that mod? Better, how to I specifically chose where in the Mod Index I want the mod to sit? I don't see a way to do this with an ESP-FE plugin.

I can put rules in place to force the plugin to follow another, but this sometimes has the unintended consequence of moving around other mods and not solving the problem.

I've had this issue with other ESP-FE plugins, but after forcing them to the bottom of the load order, Vortex has not put them right back towards the top, but only moved them up slightly with no negative ramification.

222 Active Plugins, 181 Light Plugins, WIndows 10, Vortex 1.3.22, quality gaming laptop.

There is something not right with either the mod or your set up. Vortex doesn't force espfe's to the bottom of your load order on its own. Don't use the lock to Index function. You can use groups to place it where you want it to go. I don't know much about the mod. But if it is just armor, the "early loader" group would be safe and would place it relatively high in your LO.

You said you installed the mod, and now YOUR SAVE GAME WON'T LOAD.

That's no surprise, you should NOT install mods if you're already have been playing for a while.

If you want to install new mo0ds, then you need to start a new game.

Thank you all for your help. I put the mod in the Low Priority Overrides group and that is keeping it at the end of my load order. I will try Dynamic Patches as well. Game runs fine, no crashes.

I agree that there is something wrong, but it will take me time to figure out why the save game crashes when certain ESP-FE's load too early.

As for adding mods mid-playthrough to a save, I accept this risk. I've added over 300. I enjoy modding and keeping the save working.

I appreciate the help in better understanding how to control Vortex's sort functionality, which resolved the issue.

Well, GROUPS should be considered a LAST RESORT, for sorting, as you can easily get yourself into a CYCLIC RULES mess.

So, GROUPS are like Cake Frosting, just the right amount is good, but a whole bowlful will make you sick
