kamelukki
So. Vortex version is the newest one (I just downloaded it). However, this is not the first time I have downloaded vortex. Some years ago I was modding Skyrim SE and I remember screwing some things up, but can't remember at all which ones since it's been so long. I deleted vortex then and now that I have downloaded it again it gives me a message "Mods changed on disk" whenever I start it up. My error is the picture I attached. Also, when scrolling down, it has folders on Program Files, Steam, Riot Games jada jada. These folders are in my HDD, but they are not all of the folders I have on this disk. My question is this. How safe is it to press the "apply changes" button? I'm pretty bad at computers and probably made some mistakes back then so I really want to be careful with modding now. Cheers. HadToRegister
Well, considering Vortex is complaining about the RECYCLE BIN, I'm guessing you set up your Mod Staging Folder in the ROOT of your Hard Drive.
Pickysaurus
Looks like you had a really bad Vortex setup last time you installed it. You might be best to to AppData\Roaming\Vortex and delete that entire folder to reset it to defaults.

Pagafyr
And you will do yourself - and us - a favor if you will watch this. It is a bit old - but still useful: It's been 53 years since I walked into the Arcade cave in my hometown and played a video game. There were tall boxes about three feet wide, four feet from front to back, with little 15 inch video monitors, and a shelf with a couple of controls I stood up to. I looked around before I found one I wanted to drop my twenty five cent piece in the coin slot. There were some young people my age hanging around that made me think of a name I learned that some old timers called horses. The other youths bothered me a couple times. When I didn't suffer a loss on the game they quit nagging me to get me to lose my attention focused on the game. Since I've learned and I know how it feels when someone new, a newb walks up and asks a question I have heard a lot. I learned to temper my self so I don't get mad because of having mistaken the newbs for a Nag.

Pagafyr
Yours is the first activity on this thread in over a year and a half...I wanted to move all the mods to another folder. So I could get Vortex to launch the game again. Vortex has changed a lot since I first tried it out. I found out the mods are in Vortex's Staging folder. Which is why I have returned. Seeing you posted I decided to add my resources. so it might be easier on a newb next time. A folder I deleted Mods from wasn't the one I needed to, to restore the game to it's pristine condition with any mods installed or AE installed either. A fresh new introduction for newbs for todays Vortex would be nice. I am an explorer in the fields of tools of electronics and software. I explore to find out what will happen if I chance upon an arrangement of mods that conflict. The ones I got yesterday ruined my games Saves. I wanted to know how to fix Vortex. I fixed it Ok! I wanted to know the easiest way to undo what I did and then fix Vortex today. I watched all of the Vids to get to know the new Vortex even better. I posted. I discovered that there are two set ups on my machine that Vortex installed and the one that needed to be checked and mods cleared out was on my back up drive. I cleared them from the Mods folder I found first; I supposed deleting the Roaming Vortex folder would solve the problem. Launched it. All was looking clear and brand new. After chosing Skyrim SE as a managed game Vortex went to a back up and was stalling the game because it has all the ones it had installed still in it's own backed up folder. Now I have found out something new about Vortex.A fresh new introduction for newbs for todays Vortex would be nice.
rmm200
Have you watched the video I linked? It is still useful for someone like you. When you Purge mods from the mods page - the Skyrim game folder is indeed pristine. Second point - never ever back up your game folder with mods Deployed. That will destroy them. Windows does a deep copy. Vortex uses nothing from a backup drive - unless you really screwed up your folder definitions. There is only one Download folder - which can be anywhere. Not on a backup drive though. There is one Skyrim SE mod staging folder, which has to be on the same drive as the game. Not on a backup drive. All of this should have been covered in the above video. If you want a newer one - bug Gopher.
Pagafyr
I watched Gophers video and the rest over and over so I didn't miss anything. Thx. After all this time since I played last, purchased mods from the Creation Club are still there. I made sure they weren't active. I turned set the download of mods to only when I start the game. Turned off background loading and unticked the Anniversary Edition DLC. All the mods in the STEAM mods area I unticked as well. They were still active, even though I did a complete uninstall of the game off my computer and upgraded to the latest when I reinstalled. Just the standard installation I Saved to a folder so I never would have a updates if I didn't want them was all I used. As soon as it was up and ready to run I did the Verification check. It found 19 files missing. I went to the game's site and unticked them all Vortex was letting them appear, but they didn't become active in the game. The rest the mods were in a folder separate from the game's installation in the drive I have set aside for games. I am going to clean an SSD 1TB soon and use it for all the games on this Alien Dell with the RTX 30 series next. So I needed to know all about Vortex. I don't want to end up with a sloppy sluggish, CTDing set up. There will be no Microsoft OS interactions that way. I've got it all under control now. Thx. Thx for the assist.
